I will check this out next week. I do love the Neighborhood Watch inspired cover

I'm loving it! It took a few listens to really get into, but it's growing on me every time. It's pretty much a strong continuation of their previous ones. Artillery is a really cool opener. I'm loving Tamagotchi and Zombie Nation. Angeline is a very welcome bit of semi-comic relief. So is Subaru. Get Down and Let's Get To Work are very solid tracks and Jimi is just a really unexpected kind of song that ends the album well. Love the vibe of the whole thing.

Great great great band. Saw them live last summer at a festival and seeing them in April in a club. I'm sure they'll explode a bit more in Europe to festival main stages.

Awesome to hear! I'm seeing them this April in Amsterdam and I'm really excited for that. I really hope these guys make it bigger because they definitely deserve it.

Hopefully, welcoming a new rocker into the world in a couple of months. I'm rooting for a boy. I just don't think I could handle another woman in the household, about time someone starts agreeing with me! :P

    Congratulations! ^_^

  3. I've finally gotten round to listening to Killing Floor. And honestly? This is fucking delicious! Brians vocals are brilliant. Tyler's harmonica is really fucking great as well. Band is grooving and swinging and Slash himself is on par as well. I really like his approach to this tune.

I would dare say that this is easily the most memorable thing he's done since his first solo album.
If this is what we can expect from the album, I'm definitely buying it.

The cool thing about blues is that a song’s interpretation can make it totally different from artist to artist. Killing Floor done by Led Zeppelin in 68- 69 became The Lemon Song, and both of those might as well be different songs than Slash’s version, etc

This is sort of what I'm hoping for as well. These songs have been done in different ways. I hope Slash rather makes them work in his way rather than copy one of the many renditions already out there.

Classic blues songs covered by Slash and some renowned guest appearences I think this will be a really good listen.

My point was actually that topping all the versions that are already out there (or even just doing them justice) is going to be challenging. I'm excited and I hope they do, just saying there are already a lot of beloved versions of these.

Stormy Day probably an original as well?

Yeah, that's also an option of course. The Stormy Monday link is just guessing out loud.

  6. 1. The Pusher (feat. Chris Robinson) -> Orig Hoyt Axton, done by Nina Simone, Blind Melon
    2. Crossroads (feat. Gary Clark Jr.) -> Orig Robert Johnson (Cross Road Blues), done by Clapton, Elmore James
    3. Hoochie Coochie Man (feat. Billy Gibbons) -> Orig Muddy Waters (written by Willy Dixon), done by Clapton, BB King, Allman Brothers Band, Buddy Guy...
    4. Oh Well (feat. Chris Stapleton) -> Orig Fleetwood Mac, done by Jimmy Page & the Black Crowes, Tom Petty, Deep Purple
    5. Key to the Highway (feat. Dorothy) -> Blues traditional? Done by BB King, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Little Walter, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Rolling Stones and basically everybody and their momma
    6. Awful Dream (feat. Iggy Pop) -> Orig Lightning Hopkins? I don't know this one
    7. Born Under a Bad Sign (feat. Paul Rodgers) -> Another blues traditional? Most famous by Albert King I guess? Also recorded by Etta James
    8. Papa Was a Rolling Stone (feat. Demi Lovato) -> Orig Undisputed Truth, made famous by The Temptations, also done by Black Crowes
    9. Killing Floor (feat. Brian Johnson) -> Orig Howlin Wolf, also an early live staple for Hendrix and Zeppelin iirc
    10. Living for the City (feat. Tash Neal) -> Orig Stevie Wonder?
    11. Stormy Day (feat. Beth Hart) -> Is this (Call It) Stormy Monday by T-Bone Walker?  If so also done by Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Allman Brothers Band
    12. Metal Chestnut -> An original?

  7. The list of guests is impressive and most are people I already like. I predicted Chris Robinson and Beth Hart recently, but I'm super excited to also see Chris Stapleton, Brian Johnson, Gary Clarke, Billy Gibbons, Paul Rodgers and Iggy Pop.

I don't object to a cover album at all. In fact I really like it!

But what worries me a little - most of these are blues staples that I already know quite well by at least 2 artists. In a few cases more. And they're often already extremely well done. So it's going to be challenging for Slash his interpretations to hold up against all of those. But I hope he pulls it off! This has a ton of potential and I already greatly prefer it over another SMKC album.

On the downside the title is just really dumb and the cover art isn't that much better. The concept is fine, but I'm not a fan of the computer-like style. On the upside at least it has tits n asses on it.

I was just reminiscing about that show today! You need to go, he is spectacular live. It was a short and sweet set. Probably under an hour, and it was all I needed. All killer, no filler

I really liked that Afrique Victime album. Together with the tour they also announced a new album and launched the first single. That one takes some getting used to for me. Mostly because it feels very busy sonically. Very much going on, fast, all at once. I hope the album isn't that intense as a whole.

    This is the new one:

Tickets go on sale on Friday and it's in Paradiso - one of my favourite venues. ;-)

it's the opportunity of a lifetime.

I don't know man, Slipknot seems like a horrible environment to be in. Toxic as hell.

Aside from that I'm a moderate Sepultura fan and mostly the Max era. Seeing Max and Igor play some Sepultura songs together as The Cavalera Conspiracy was really cool! Never really got into the Derek Green era. I think when I got into Sepultura, only Against and Nation were out. I think Roorback came after that and the rest I don't really know. Any standouts in there?

Dark Side- The Wall will always be the masterpieces they rightfully are. They also exist due to the contributions of the other four. I don't care for any of his solo work, really, so no loss there to me. I give him credit as an artist though, he rightfully gets the "genius" title for those four records, alone. The lyrics are a big part of why they are what they are. Despite what he says, though, so is the music. Even Animals and The Wall would be drastically worse without Dave, Rick, and Nick.

In fact, I would say I would like Animals just as much as I do now if Dogs and Sheep kept their original lyrics and names (You've Got to be Crazy and Raving and Drooling). The best parts on those albums imo are the spacey keyboards and Gilmour's guitar.

Anyways, fuck Roger. The Wall was a killer show in 2010. Thanks for that, dickhead

Very well put. And bonus points for what you said about Animals.

Rog's solo works have their highlights though. Perfect Sense was a very unexpected highlight of the first Roger show I saw. And that's okay. But for example I really shouldn't have bought Is This The Life We Really Want as he was already going way off the deep end. It's just a shame when a great artist is reduced to this absolute tool.

Roger is a bonafide imbecile and bigot.

Putting it mildly. He's bevond ridiculous these days. It's gotten to the point where I'm starting to dislike some of his music. And that in itself pisses me off.
