  2. For me it’s “what if” they did the reunion in 2006 and released CD in 2007 with slash and duff? Axl was on fine form both physically and vocally in 06’ and velvet revolver was media darlings. It would’ve been even bigger than NITL was. They easily would’ve risen to the top as big or bigger than Aerosmith did during their second or 3rd act when they hit it big in the early-mid 90’s with get a grip and big ones. Also speaking of Aerosmith, it makes me think of Wayne’s world 2, which brings me to this, “what if” Mike Myers wouldn’t have insisted on using bohemian rhapsody in Wayne’s world 1 and went with the original song that the the producer wanted…. Sweet child o’ mine? Then GNR show up on mtv with a new SCOM video featuring Wayne and Garth and GNR carry that mainstream momentum into the mid-late 90’s when we could’ve got the majority of what became CD.

  3. I have a hit parader magazine from 1996 where it said “rumors continue that the legendary Guns N’ Roses are super close to handing in the tapes for a new album. Slash said good music is good music whether it’s recorded in 1987 or 1997 shouldn’t make a difference”. Then just a few months later, the headline in hit parader was that Slash split, and left GNR. So I think people still wanted them around, they were just absent. Also for what’s its worth, I know at my high school in the yearbook, GNR were still ranked most popular band until 96’ even in 97, they were 3rd, behind Aerosmith and Ozzy. I wasn’t in high school at the time, but both of my siblings were, and I saw it in their books. Also, in 2018, the school my nephew went to had GNR listed as the favorite rock band. That surprised me, but was cool to see

It's an Axl Rose solo record.

Robert Plant didn't release solo records and call it Led Zeppelin, Don Henley didn't release solo records and call it The Eagles, Mick Jagger didn't release solo records and call it The Rolling Stones.

Gotta have more than one original member on an album, otherwise it's a solo record.

For what it's worth, Chinese Democracy has a few bright spots like There Was A Time and Catcher In The Rye, but otherwise it's generally a letdown. I haven't listed to the full album in about ten years.

I think the big difference is that Axl never left Guns N’ Roses, everyone else bailed on him. I think he took it as a me against the world/last man standing carrying the torch for guns.

  5. Well Axl being a happy man and getting good press was great while it lasted. I bet he says fuck this shit, I’m out!
Watching the documentary she clearly says it wasn’t rape, it was consensual. They were all young, dumb and on all kinds of drugs. It’s so convenient that the statute of limitations waiver expires in a few days and this comes like a week after GNR was in the news about their managers sexual assault allegations. But the mainstream press will likely roll with her side of the story, and the majority of people will hear that and not look any further. I think this is the beginning of the end for Axl being the happy guy we saw on stage this year, and GNR in general.

The only mystery is in your imagination.

The song finally came out. Enjoy it or don't. If you have to enter fantasy land, at least move on to an unreleased song.

There's no point in posting this anymore. I did it a couple times.  It doesn't change anything. This is on a loop and has been since the announcement.

Someone says it's "literally impossible" for the songs to fit

Someone posts an example proving this wrong

Someone then weighs in saying no one said it was impossible even though there's plenty of examples where people are saying it's impossible. Then a link gets posted about how the sound quality won't be perfect, which we already knew.

    Repeat forever.

Great man, good advice, I’ll move onto an unreleased song… ohh I know, how about the general?

Bro this is just.... dude they are different songs. its time to accept that. even IF monster was on the vinyl with general(which we already proved impossible cause they cant put both general and monsters on the same side of a 7 inch vinyl.) it would be part of the general. it would be a "secret" song. they are two different songs the general isnt some epic long song and plus, they have musical similarities but they dont even sound like they were written to be one song.

they cant fit the musc music on one side of a 7 inch vinyl

....again... they CAN NOT fit over 9 min worth of music on the 7 inch vinyl.

I agree they are different songs. I was saying/asking if anyone thought there could be more to the general than what we’ve heard. I mean it was locked down for 15 years and nobody outside of a few of Axl’s friends ever heard it. I guess I’m alone in this, but I wouldn’t be surprised that when it’s officially released that there is more to it. People are saying how they played it live, sure they did, but they also played silkworm’s live and the official release of silkworms became absurd and was different. Axl seems to like to be in control of when we hear his art, so I wouldn’t put it past him to troll us. That’s all I’m saying.

But why would they play half a song?

I was open to the idea of it being one peice split in two by the leaker, but they've played 'The General' now. We've heard in in an official setting, they wouldn't play half of it then stop

It’s a reach, but I wouldn’t put it past Axl to have more of it locked away and we’ll only hear it on his watch. I guess we’ll know for sure in another month or so

No CD song was "way different" than their respective demos. The structures of each song was exactly the same.

Maybe the structures, but shacklers sounds way different to me.

They've played it live twice 🤦‍♂️

I know they played it twice, the question was do you think there’s more to it? They could’ve just played what leaked. As I said, one can dream I suppose. I will say, they played silkworms live several times, but the official release is different

  10. Anyone think it’s possible we haven’t heard all of the general? For over a decade we’ve all tha ought it to be this epic song and it’s just not that at all .don’t get me wrong, I like it, but it’s really only 1 verse and a chorus on repeat. I do think it has good bones, but imo it needs more. I get that it’s a “B” side, but wouldn’t it be cool if there more to it, and we just got a small portion of it, to keep the mystery alive, they played what leaked their last 2 shows to keep us from digging further? Come December our minds will be blown with the epic 10 minute version lol. One can dream I suppose. I will say, in listening to the village leaks, many of CD was way different then the demo version

I do wonder if Bach misheard or misinterpreted what Axl was saying - it is hard to really find a connection thematically between three songs about romantic love and loneliness connected by the "Del James music video trilogy" (Don't Cry, NR, Estranged) and then a song about growing up with an abusive father figure that doesn't reference any other theme but that childhood situation

Although "Monsters" would thematically fit if you interpret the lyrics from a reteospective on a failed relationship as opposed to a reteospective on an abusive father figure.  So I have no idea what to make of it all lol

Pretty much where I’m at with it too

That probably depends on how we measure success. In today's day and age streams are a pretty important way of measuring success. According to Spotify This I Love is the most streamed (successful) GNR song from this century. Of course This I Love wasn't a single as far as I know. The most streamed GNR single on Spotify from this century is Better.

The problem with measuring success based on streams is obviously the fact that older songs always have a head start. It's almost impossible for brand new songs to have more streams than older songs cause people have been streaming the old songs for years. So you can't really compare the new songs to the older songs based on streams. Only time will tell if Hard Skool or Perhaps will surpass Better and This I Love some day.

Good points. I believe if Better had a video it would probably be the winner. They didn’t do anything to capitalize on the buzz that was created around the time of its release. I’m Boeing the general lives up to the hype I’ve build up in my mind over the years and ends up being huge! I seriously doubt that will be the case, but there’s always hope lol
