the people on gnrevolution are saying there's hoarders of CD2 music?

    http://www.gnrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?id=15932&p=21

how does that come about!? how are those tracks acquired?

and apparently Soul Monster and Se7en are traveling around?

In a lot of cases I think why keep this amongst yourselves but there's a chance the band would come after people leaking stuff that was supposed to come out on a proper CD II. I'd just be curious how it stacks up to CD I and if the sound is generally the same.

That's why Hardskool  and Absurd didn't really work. We won't get real music from GnR ever again, time's up.

There's a certain point where the years pass and stack up on each other where this feels more and more true. Why wait 8,9,10 years to release new music when you could have struck when the iron was much more hot between 2016-18?

The situation reminds me of System of a Down who haven't released an album since 2005 where the other members have basically said that their singer Serj Tankian is the main reason.

The difference with Guns is none of the members will ever say its Axl. If Axl wanted to record music the rest of the band would be on-board. There's not much tension or issue with this now because they're older and have made more money than they ever did in their prime while seemingly coasting.

Shouldn't GnR be on this list if the shows are selling as poorly as people say?

There's some big names in there where it feels less like lesser acts have to resort to this and more that its a broader promotion. Are Nickelback, Janet Jackson, Rod Stewart, Shania Twain, and Snoop Dogg/Wiz Khalifa not great selling acts?

By ‘stick it out’, do you mean continue to toady to the guy who pays your rent because you’d be a playing in bars without him?

Anyway, he gets his big moment… his fierce bongo contribution on Rocket Queen.

Dizzy is the guy who knew where his bread is buttered and never rocked the boat while towing the line with Axl for 33 years now. I have much more respect for Slash, Duff, and Matt who actually questioned wtf was going on when Axl did jack shit from like 1994-1997 when they all decided being active musicians was better than doing nothing.

I'm sure Dizzy is a nice guy but he seems like a company man through and through which doesn't necessarily warrant respect just because he managed to not get fired by Axl.

Like most of you I want to hear Pretty tied up and Bad obsession, but also Think about You and Anything goes just for the sake of having whole appetite seen live! One other big desire is Locomotive

Yeeeh give him another upfront piano solo spot, I'd love that

Anything Goes is an odd one as its on their biggest album but hasn't been performed since 1988. If you were a young 20 something the last time they performed it you're now in your 50's.

Think About You is also a rarity that had a 14 year gap from 1987-2001 in being performed. It was played from 2001-02 and 2006 but hasn't been played since.

They should have added SOYL or YCBM instead of the fast YC on AfD.

There's definitely merit to replacing You're Crazy on AFD with SOYL and saving it for Lies. Both songs are roughly the same length and tempo and I think one of the reasons SOYL wasn't on Appetite is sharing a writing credit with Paul Huge when there's 2 other songs with shared credits on the album.

  7. As the title states, do you prefer the Appetite for Destruction version of You're Crazy or the GNR Lies version of You're Crazy thats acoustic and the version they've done live since until they brought back the AFD version last year?

I've always preferred the original as a speed metal type song and think the Lies version sounds retrofitted to work as an acoustic song.

I normally don't like the comparisons between bands of a similar level of fame and era, but this is so true. I'm a big RHCP fan and an even bigger John fan; was delighted when he joined but his return has been even bigger and better than I could ever have expected. GN'R has never worked on anyone else's behest or timeline but RHCP and Metallica really are putting GNR to shame here.

Metallica were kind of in that situation Guns N' Roses are in now regarding new music. They released Death Magnetic in 2008 but it took over 8 years for Hardwired as a follow-up. In between they toured every year but it was less jarring than Guns because even before Hardwired they had 9 albums to play songs from. Even now its been almost 7 years between Hardwired and 72 Seasons but it feels like less of a wait for some reason.

Those same things are what gave us the AFD-UYI era. It wouldn't have been the same band if there was no substance abuse and they all had calm personalities and were best friends.

Its why I wonder what a Guns N' Roses album would even be like in the present? There was all sorts of personal turmoil and experiences to draw from during 87-93 and even with Chinese Democracy which feels autobiographical in parts regarding Axl.

Just change the year at the end and this message could have been posted at any point since 2008.

There's been so much downtime the past 7 years between tours where we could be on album 3 if they wanted to. Recording new music just isn't a priority and the cycle of the band seems to be touring 4-5 months out of the year and going their separate ways after.

The other members are probably down for new music but it all comes down to Axl and what he does during the months off because he could've written like a novels worth of lyrics and ideas at this point.

They should cut the set down to about 2.5 hours and rotate songs each night, would keep things fresher for the band and there wouldn't be as many lulls that take the energy out of the crowd. I saw RHCP a week ago and the difference between them and GNR was definitely noticeable. RHCP only played 1 hour 45 minutes but it was all killer no filler, the jams were all high energy, and everyone left wanting more... I can't say the same for a 3.5 hour GNR show.

I think it helps that RHCP is still a collaborative band that released 2 albums last year and have their classic lineup. They're a perfect example of what a band 40 years in should be doing.

  12. Probably said before but it'd be cool if they were more media friendly and by "they" I'm mainly talking about Axl. 7 years for this current incarnation of the band and we'll likely never get a full band interview.

Pearl Jam did one as a full band a few years back on one of the late night shows so its not like something that never happens. Axl and any combination with the rest of them would portray an actual relationship among members that we really don't see and we only got with the Axl/Duff interview.

Mine too. Did some research years back on this. Found a review on a long dead site on wayback machine where someone at the gig mentioned seeing "red blinking lights" on device's people were trying to conceal from overzealous security. The fact there's only a few pictures from those shows sort of back that up

I expect there are bootlegs of those shows that just have not been shared. People at the very least tried to record it for sure

The pictures are what make the show kind of legendary much like the HOB show from January 2001 that eventually leaked. Also interesting as the last time Oh My God performed live and the last time Absurd/Silkworms was performed for close to 20 years.

  14. Its just disappointing to see a band that was so ambitious and balls out in their prime coast for a decade plus now and rest on their laurels. They're a band that made a hard edged, darker debut than all the glam bands at the time.

They put 100% into their live shows, and were ambitious enough to make their follow-up to AFD 2 albums with different sounds and styles. They spent money making ambitious videos to promote the UYI albums that have withstood the test of time.

None of that is represented by the current band who's sole purpose is touring to make huge sums of money. There's nothing resembling a creative drive like other bands who've been around as long if not longer and the years going by only magnify it.
