Yes but how many attend the concert? The concert Lithos are sold at concerts. A much smaller crowd. The box set is a much bigger audience then thousands that attended a concert.

So 10000 worldwide isn't very many just as 500 for a concert of thousands isn't very many.

The Lithos are one of the things that bumped it up higher. Those who end up wanting one will pay very high on Ebay or where ever.

It is a bit different, but you still have to look at the raw numbers from a collecting POV, if a certain litho is particularly cool / sought after it's gonna go for a lot more on Ebay / elsewhere because there are only 300, with probably half the people who bought 'em at the show keeping them and then flippers getting the rest, so a tiny, tiny supply for something that might be, depending on the art, really in demand.

The lithos for this, though, the entry is way higher than a tour one ($30-50 vs $1000), it's likely that more people keep the set rather than attempt to flip it, so it's a bit of a question of what the supply will be online of people attempting to part these out.  I said $50+/each and as donny pointed out that might be overly conservative but I wouldn't go too high with it.

I don't want to spoil anyone's fun, and I'm sure the people parting with the 1k are super excited about their purchase but I'm really miffed about what's so exciting?

I'd say collection-wise the vinyl has substantial value and also the lithos, the Axl Sunglasses/Skeleton and Slash one are pretty cool, beyond that though the other stuff seems much less substantial.  If I was going to spend that much money on GNR merch though I'd buy stuff like the CD Red Hand, AFD Signed by all members, that badass Tokyo/Godzilla Poster, etc, stuff that has more inherent value imo from a rarity/open market standpoint.

  3. Buy the box, part the lithos out at $50+/each, plus sell few other things and you probably end up paying $200-300,
a bit of work but probably not too unrealistic if you can manage to catch the first bit of hype surrounding it.

I'd say for someone considering the big box though you might wanna opt for a reliable Ebay seller.  I'm not buying it,
but tax was showing $90 for me and you can avoid that by buying off Ebay while also getting $30 or so in Ebay Bucks.
It's highly unlikely to sell out during pre-orders, if at all, so smart thing to do is see how it shakes out after they start
shipping and then save at least $100.

  4. Good lord, $999.

They should've done these signed, that would've helped warrant some of the extra cost, maybe.

I like how the price scaling goes though, $20, $40, $150, $1000, waitaminute

I know Pixies did a big box set similar to this and it was $500, but that was for their entire discography and also signed by the entire band.  Granted, Pixies aren't as big as GNR, but, really, I think the $500 price point is a lot more reasonable for most and kinda the breaking point when it comes to collectibles and whatnot.

But as far as price speculation / true value goes there are just too many of 'em and there's not really enough real value there, imo, to warrant the cost.  I'm no GNR merch expert by any means but a lot more elusive stuff sells for a lot less, certain posters, etc.  People shell out bigtime for the shows, sure, but that's more of a spectacle / "once in a lifetime" deal for people, whereas merch, I feel, has a far more niche crowd around it, and especially at the high-end of the scale they're aiming for.

Axl is breathing life into a band on the ropes after losing Brian...these guys never want to retire and they almost had to...but here comes Axl with no bag of issues and a brilliant voice to save the day. A guy that's been there before and yet some silly ACDC fans can't put their pride aside and let this guy carry your band on a broken foot. They want a tribute singer to come in and mimick ACDC to the finish line when the real deal Axl F'n Rose is putting on the performances of his life and taking this band to their next chapter. This band should have died when they cancelled this tour, and yet here they are trending around the world because of one guy! Time to show him some respect for taking this on
