  1. 1385202925844-lone-survivor-d28986-13852

I just saw this and I gotta tell you guys I don't remember watching such a graphic war movie since Saving Private Ryan back in 1998. It's based on a true story or so it seems.

    Now, I wonder if...

they made the right call by letting the kids and the old man go. I mean, I guess you could argue that they were civilians and they had no reason to kill innocent people who were just minding their own business. But then again, letting them go resultes in almost the whole team being killed by the Taliban and the 10 or 11 guys that were in the rescue chofer. According to imdb, the survivor said he'd have done things differently if he'd known back then how things would turn out. I don't know. What do you think? I'm starting to think killing them was the right thing to do. At least you'd be saving American lives, the lives of your men.
    and there's something I don't understand either...
How come the Afghan guy was willing to help Mark Wahlberg's character? I mean, I know he was not a Taliban, but he must've known that by helping the American soldier, he was basically sentencing himself and the rest of the village to death. I don't know. did that actually happen?
  2. I don't pretend I understand what goes on behind the scenes in the brain of a (former) prolific songwriter like Axl Rose. But I was reading one of the threads here, the one about DJ and his hobby comment, and I started wondering if the problem with the new album not being released or written or recorded or whatever is that Axl doesn't creatively click with any of the guys in the current lineup.

Even if it's true that Axl hates all or most of the former Gunners or the classic lineup or whatever, we can't deny that the chemistry in that band helped Axl create or help create the songs GnR is famous for and thanks to which GnR ruled the world when they did.

Could that be the problem? you know, that there's no spark?

    Just wondering.

    EDIT:

and I'm not talking about the songs that allegedly exist but which have not been released. I mean, if we never get to hear them, they might as well not exist at all, or I don't care if Axl has written 2,000,000 songs since the original lineup destroyed itself if I can't enjoy them myself.

I can come here and claim I am the most prolific author because I´ve written 10 books in the last two years… so what? If I don't let anyone read them I might as well not have written them at all.

  3. i voted 'no'. slash's book is as honest as duff's and steven's. all of them have pretty much the same version of the events concerning guns n'roses.

Even if I'm not anti Slash, I must say some of his passages do read as if he were trying to depict himself as the good guy. Even when he admits to having been high or drunk most of the time, he sorta plays down how that could've affected both the band and his relationship with Axl. Like: yeah, I was drunk and couldn't keep my shit together, but it wasn't that bad in the grand scheme of things.

I don't get that I was a victim or the good guy sort of vibe from Duff's account. I may be wrong though.

  4. If the government wasn't involved, why didn't they uncover the whole conspiracy? The fact that nothing's been done and that nobody was arrested, besides Oswald, goes to show that the US government was indeed involved in the conspiracy, at least to some degree. I mean, you'd think the Secret Service and the FBI would manage to find out exactly what happened, instead of just buying some bullshit story involving a crazy lone gunman who was able to shoot that fast in such a short period of time.

  5. I've always thought that JFK was indeed assassinated by a conspiracy involving the CIA and maybe some US government officials. Oswald must've been nothin' but a scapegoat. I mean, the guy gets shot before he even has a chance to defend himself? Right… and all those witnesses whose testimonies were dismissed by the Warren Comission… I don't know. It sounds weird to me. And what about the actual assassination footage. That last shot, man, you can tell he was shot from the front, and not from the back, as the WC claimed. Well… I guess we'll have to wait until 2029 to find out.

  6. Yesterday I watched Thirteen days and JFK back to back. Yeah… I had nothing to do. You should see them if you haven't already.

    Thirteen days (2000)

This one is about the Cuban missile crisis (1962), when we came very close to an all-out nuclear war between the US and the USSR.

    JFK (1992)

And this one is about the assassination of JFK and the conspiracy theory surrounding this death.

    ...

After watching them, I read up on the whole assassination thing and it seems that all the official documents surrounding JFK's death will be disclosed in 2029. Why so late though?

Do you guys think Oswald acted alone? Or do you think JFK was indeed assassinated by the US government and/or the mafia?

  7. I'm starting to think very few stories need more than 3 seasons to be told. Breaking Bad comes to mind, as well as Game Of Thrones. But in the case of the Walking Dead, I think 3 seasons would've been more than enough, specially since the characters in the TV series are not that interesting to begin with. I don't know. I fear next season will bring us yet another stronghold where they'll spend 10 episodes doing nothing, expect bicker and argue and kill a zombie every now and then. Maybe it's just me, but the zombie gimmick got old pretty fast. I keep coming back to TWD, because… I don't know… I've already made it this far, I might as well see how it all ends, but not because I'm excited about the show or anything. It's sad, because if they'd followed the original story, meaning the cómic books, TWD would be way waaaaaay better. I will never understand the need to deviate from an original story, specially since you run the risk of changing stuff around so much that you fuck it all up. I know not everything in the cómic books would translate well to a TV series, but I'm sure there are ways that can be done.

  8. #1 Singles and top 40 material is not what I think should be used to define success or merits of rock n roll. The best stuff I've heard over the past 15 years typically didn't make a big impact into the Billboard charts. Even when rock records used to sell like hot cakes I never thought chart position was a relevant benefactor as it concerns the actual songs and material.. I mean, the last ACDC record w/ the Wal-Mart exclusive got a lot of run, but its not really something that I think will resonate with people (or even their own fans) for years to come. Chinese Democracy didn't make any box office records, but I think it has succeeded- purely on its own terms. Axl didn't whore himself to promote it or pimp the songs to promote himself. He let the material speak for itself. The fact that so many people are still discussing the pros and cons of the album (all the way on down to songs like Scraped) demonstrates that it DID resonate.

I am so tired of hearing Axl fans brag about how he did not whore himself by promoting his own music, like that is some badge of honor to do what every other artist does to promote their music, yet he continues to milk the GnR name and rely on the old hits to draw fans to NuGuns concerts and make his $$$.

  9. Corgan both WROTE AND PLAYED(guitar, vocals/lyrics, bass) most of the songs back in the day and continues to do so now. The main essence is still there. The same cannot be said for Axl who mainly contributed to vocals/lyrics(aside from November Rain, Estranged etc). Guns N' Roses originally was 5 equal parts with each member bringing in their own style. From Izzy's constructive and catchy rhythm, to Slash's pleasing and melodic solos, to Adler's off the wall loose drumming to Duff's thumping and prominent basslines. Axl didn't write any solos, Axl did not contribute any basslines, Axl did not put down any drum beats. You get idiots like MSL who think Axl was the main songwriter but the only songs he truly wrote on his lonesome were the likes of November Rain, Estranged, etc. The band was a collective who used to jam out songs in the back of a van on the way to a show unlike now where the 'band' never even speak to eachother(let alone record together) besides being on tour. Smashing Pumpkins was always the Corgan(and Jimmy to an extent) show. That is why you rarely get Pumpkins fans(myself included) saying "bring back D'arcy!!" because the other members contributed very little even by their own admission.

    This man speaks the truth.
