  1. But the amount of hate & ignorance shown towards Axl on almost every "facebook" post or aticle in the comments, is absouletly disgusting. Is their any reason why he stays away from social media and a recluse? Anyone else would of given up a long time ago. It makes me sad that no matter what he does that 90% of the media portray him in a bad light, the usual comments that follow are

    "Axl's fat"

    "Wheres slash"

    "He cant sing"

    "He ruined GNR"

    "Axle axle axlle"

Why the fuck does it come across as no-one respects outside of the core fanbase ? No wonder he's heisitant to release new music.

    #endrant

I wish Axl would be on the cover of Rolling Stone (huge interview) or maybe the Playboy Interview (usually very huge detailed interviews) and a couple of more TV stuff like Jay Leno, Letterman, or even 60 Minutes because it's more serious - maybe a Kurt Loder style interview. I would love to see the regular people around the world knowing facts only hardcore fans know. But then again, it's Axl's choice. And in the end a lie that has been told a million times becomes the truth (reason why people believe in all these horrible topics you worte down as examples). But on the long run I think justice will be made - not 100% the way we want, but hopefully it will.

Anyway worse than regular people trashing Axl and the band is to watch FANS trashing the band. This is something I can't understand. If you're not happy, leave. It's so simple. I'm not a Slash fan since he was out. So I have no idea what this guy does these days, I don't get into his personal shit online, I have no clue if he's got a Facebook or Twitter. I just unfollow his life in general. So to the ones who don't agree with the line up, who believe Axl doesn't sing well these days, etc... don't waste your time, leave instead of doing this negative masturbation online against the one who, once upon a time, gave ya joy and happiness - well, I still have a lot of joy and happiness with Guns ! Thanks Axl !

  2. Simple topic, what songs (if any) do you think nugnr does better than classic gnr? This is open to all era's of nugnr, 2001~2014, but it has to be a classic song.

I actually like the way the current band plays don't cry over the classic band. The way Bumble's starts it out, then Axl comes in, then by the solo the whole band is on it. It's just awesome imo, a highlight of the concert imo. And yes I do think it's better than any performance of that song the classic band ever did. But it's the only one.

All the old songs are better played / performed by all incarnations of GN'R since 2001. When I hear old stuff from 1985 to 93 I think "How come did I think they (everybody but Axl) were so good back then? Was I so highhhhhh?!".

  3. Rick working with a competent engineer would be the optimum choice, track record alone is reason to investigate. After that, Nick Raskulinecz (Foo fighters, Rush) might be an interesting choice, as he is also on a winner and he seems to get the results... that last last Rush album was excellent. Could work wonders on a GnR album. The trouble is, working on a Guns album is no easy task. The band will record during he day and Axl will turn up at all hours and stay until he's satisfied, that's a formula for a burnt out producer and engineer... likely making it so that they aren't critically listening. I think Caram should have been more critical on the mixes of CD. you can hear everything and the 'sound' of the album is fantastic but some of the extra flashy bits should probably have been left on the cutting floor.

I hope the next album receives the same production of CD because this album is just outta this world!

  4. I've been listening to the London '12 soundboard for the last couple days and it's sorta re-ignited my interest in this, purely because I'm curious about the mix. I think I'm one of the few people who actually liked Axl's 2002 voice. I know he sounded "awkward" a lot of the time but shows like Columbus and Boston proved he could sing clean and do it well.

He sounds very similar in London to how he sounded in 2002. It's almost an awkward mix between his '02 and '06/7 voice. I've thought it was a terrible show since it leaked, I still think it's a bad show, but listening to the HQ soundboard it's not as bad as I remember. I never really noticed how much Axl loses in youtube videos (I fucking hate this argument btw), but he really does appear more 'Mickey' in low quality videos than he actually is. (For the record, the version of the show I downloaded was the screener, not the massive HD file).

Hopefully this show leaks this year.

It's very true that youtube lows the quality of everything. It's a whole different animal to watch something on a huge decent TV.

I also enjoy the 2002 gigs. Axl kicks major ass in gigs such as Boston, Ohio and Leeds. It's amazing what he did with his voice on these shows.

  5. i think they've ruined LALD in studio. Before the UYI releases Axl talked about it being smth. like "Welcome To The Jungle #2"....but that clearly didnt come along in any form on the album. they do it live better by far!

did you hear it in rehearsals pre-UYI, Marc?

I believe he meant it by the vibe and meaning of the song (LALD = WTTJ II). It was at the pool for MTV back in 1990. Cool Nike basketball sneakers.

  6. I don't get all this hate towards DJ. Many people don't like him because the TIL solo ain't the same as Robin's in studio or because he doesn't do the whole 9 yards on SCOM. Anyway if we look back into his own catalogue, I think there's a lot of hope as regards good music in the future. His solo algum (Addicted to Friction) has some very good moments, great riffs and great solos. The first Beautiful Creatures album is also very good and his guitar solos are very good as well. Even though many people don't dig Sixx AM, there are some great material there. For all I heard so far (people should also look for Beuatiful Creatures live on youtube, good shit!) DJ's solo stuff and his other bands are pretty much far better than anything Slash has done since he LEFT Guns. Not to mention that DJ's stuff out of Guns is much more advanced and creative than anything Slash has done - AND still... it's very rock n' roll.

Besides, I trust Axl. When Steven was out I was dead inside (I'm a drummer). When Matt kicked ass in Rio II I was like... yeah, ok, it's for the best! And apart from Gilby (but it was only as a live act) everybody who got inside this band are amazing talents and replaced the former ones properly to say the least. I remember how sad I was when Slash was out and I also remember how happy I was in Rio III watching Bucket + Ronin + Paul. So I guess it's just a matter of letting time pass and see what happens on a new album, doesn't matter how long it takes.

    Why I don't like Ashba.

Well. Do you trust Axl? Do you believe he wouldn't see it coming if you're right about everything you're saying?

  8. I love Oh My God. The song was so powerful live when I heard it in person in Rock in Rio III. I wanted to smash skulls listening to it live lol

I always thought it was pretty much GN'R, The bass line sounds so GN'R to me, the last guitar solo too. Axl's voice is crazy and he's more aggressive than ever, the chorus is so fuckin' powerful and the guitar riffs are explosive. I personally believe this song deserves a second chance on a new album.

  9. This conversation leads me to a few memories:

    1) Axl interview for Musician Magazine. 92. The guy asks him if Izzy will be missed as a songwirter because there are many Izzy songs on UYI. Axl replies: There are Izzy songs there because I wanted those songs there (I'm not quoting because I don't remember the exact words)

    2) Slash and Brian May and others complaining and or talking about Axl hearing them play for hours and hours in the studio to get seconds of one thing here and there.

One thing is to bring instrumentals. But to know what to do with it, how to build it, etc... it's another thing, that's where magic happens. It's like Slash's Snakepit first album or the solo stuff from Izzy. Cool stuff here and there, some nice riffs, blablabla. BUT? C'mon, Slash was fooling around with the intro of Sweet Child, didn't want to record it, never wanted t play it. If it wasn't for Axl, there would be no Sweet Child. Apart from some of the most amazing lyrics ever made in rock history, it takes more than creating a riff or a solo to make one hell of a song. And that's one of the reasons Axl Rose is Axl Rose.

  10. Id rather have 1 fuckin' perfect album in a decade than 3 "ok" albums.

Of course some of you would want Axl to play by the record company's book and be like many bandass out there, industry puppets - record, tour, record, tour, record, tour. No quality at all.

    LOL.

I guess I have more faith in Axl's abilities than you do. I think the man is way more talented than you do, and that he could put out amazing albums every 4-5 years. He did it before with Appetite, Lies and the Illusions. That was 3.5 albums worth of material in five years. I have extreme faith in his talent and think he could do that again, no problem. Weird that you think if Axl put out an album every five years they would just be "OK." I wish you had more respect for his talent and songwriting abilities.

Your second comment about being industry puppets is pretty funny as well. Is that what GnR was in the late 80s and early 90s? When they released 3.5 albums in five years, and broke records with the amount of touring they did to support them? They were also all over the media. Music videos for every single, Axl did interviews with every magazine, they did MTV interviews, they played awards shows and late night talk shows.........they did ALL the things you are now describing as being bad things. According to you, they were just industry puppets.

    Your logic is very confusing.

So you like it that your favorite band doesn't regularly put out music and would prefer one album every 15 years over an album every 5 years.

You think Axl Rose is God, but you don't think he can create quality music in five year chunks

And you don't like bands that are fan-friendly - release albums, do interviews, music videos and do a lot of touring......you prefer bands that don't put out albums, don't talk to the media and don't tour a lot.

Only on a GnR forum would fans say it was a good thing that Axl didn't release more music. Weirdest logic I've ever heard.

    Wow.

There is a first for everything, I suppose.

Though I can't ever imagine hearing a die-hard fan of a band saying "Man, I hate that my favorite band releases new music every few years. And I sure wish they'd stop touring, do we really need to go see them live every few years? And damn the lead singer for doing two interviews last year, none of us fans want to know what's going on in his life and what the band's future plans are. And gosh darn it, why did the band have to play an acoustic set on the Kimmel show last night? Sigh - it sucks to be a fan of this band. I wish they'd just disappear for the next 10 years. No albums, no touring, no interviews. That would be so much better than being a product fan-friendly band."

I'm still considering if I should lose precious time to answer to this. Maybe you should read what I wrote again before that. Anyway, some quick ones here: 1) No, Axl ain't no God, he's a human being. 2) Yes Id rather have 1 album per year. BUT I'm very ok about getting a new album doesn't matter how long it takes because I'm not a spoiled kid demanding shit from people we barely or not even know in person. remember that there are no rules to release music. Each band does whatever they want, for their specific reasons and each band out there have their own share of issues and others. 3) Every band back then (80s, 90s) would do it, that's how things worked to survive, to make it. Anyway do you really think they always played by the book? If you think so, you have no idea what GN'R is all about because this band was always kinda out of the regular shit out there. 4) GN'R is probably more fan friendly than most "fan friendly" bands out there. The way Axl talks and treats fans (not to mention the rest of the band, etc) is amazing. Since 2009, we have had lots of touring, an official website, 2 Axl interviews on TV, many Axl interviews over the internet (and the chats with fans), the band has been all over the place in all kinds of media, the record everybody demanded for so long is out there for only 5 years (many "fan friendly" bands take more than 5 years to release a new album but I don't know why some people feel so good crucyfying Axl for the long time of CD), etc. Just because there are no videos or a proper marketing for CD or because there's no new album in 5 years GN'R ain't fan friendly? This is ridiculous. But you know what I DON"T GET? Why do frustrated unhappy people keep on following the band. I already said this before and I will say it again. Last time I enjoyed something Slash did was when he was still in Guns. After that, I didn't enjoy his shit. SO I LEFT. I'm not a fan of Slash, I don't go to his forums to bitch and moan and cry. It's a waste of time to be complaining here. The fan base all over the internet is sooooo negative these days. It's sick and it sucks. It wasn't like this back at the gnronline Live Era official forum or at the first years of other forums out there. Sad.

  11. Tommy kicks fuckin' ass !!!!!!!!!!!!

I highly doubt Tommy leaves. I'd be positively stunned if he did. Its not like he and Paul are best friends. If he does leave I'll be disappointed. Aside from Dizzy no one past or present has been in GNR longer than Tommy has. (come to think of it, this lineup is the most stable, longest running lineup in the band's storied history). If he were to leave I think I'd consider it a loss for sure, but I think they'd be okay. I could envision Duff stepping in or if they were really in a tight spot, Pitman is allegedly a more than capable bassist.

What if Tommy left and Bumble followed shortly thereafter? Can anyone picture DJ Ashba and Slash in the same band? Of course, I don't think there's any chance of that happening, but that sure would be a sight to see.

I have thought this is probably the most realistic scenerio. I think Axl really likes Ashba, perhaps they have good working relationship (like Axl had with Izzy). Plus Axl is too proud to give up on nugnr, so any type of Slash return would involve a classic and nu gnr merger. Honestly Tommy leaving could be the catalyst to making this happen. Because who else are you gonna get to play bass other than Duff. If Duff comes back, then perhaps a Slash return becomes possible, perhaps Sorum as well. I don't think Izzy would want to join anything full time, I think he enjoys his once and a while return shows. So Axl would move DJ to mostly rhythm, which he would probably get solos here and there anyways. Of course this means BBF, Frank, and Fortus are out. But if Slash and Duff are back them who cares right?

As for an album goes, take the best 3~5 illusion/96 session leftovers, 3~5 CD era leftovers, then try to write new things with whatever is left. You let Slash and DJ put parts over the CD era stuff, to make it there own. Call the album Guns n' Roses and everybody is happy.

Hummm... are you on dope? I'm pretty sure its something heavy I hope you survive. Maybe not?

Remember the words - NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!

    Thank God!

  12. Id rather have 1 fuckin' perfect album in a decade than 3 "ok" albums. Boston took 11 years to release a new album. Many bands and artists take different amounts of time to release their stuff. If it takes 10 more years to have a follow up to CD at the same level or even on a higher level (which is what happens since the first record in my opinion), I'll be here when it's time ! Of course some of you would want Axl to play by the record company's book and be like many bandass out there, industry puppets - record, tour, record, tour, record, tour. No quality at all. I just hope Axl and the band and management can solve their issues (whatever it is and seems like it's ugly) with the record company so they can have some piece of mind.

  13. Regarding the name thing, despite being on Team Axl for a long time, I do think he was a "control freak" with a lot of emotional issues in the early 90's, and this played a huge part in the breakup. However, I really don't blame him overall because there is enough evidence to suggest it was a group effort. People grow apart - it's sad, but it happens. When you look around at the music landscape to see which bands broke up with acrimony, and which ones have members who dislike each other publicly, the answer is most of 'em. I believe that Slash was not willing to compromise musically, anywhere near as much as he implies in interviews, and this put a real wedge into the inner workings of the band. He was dead wrong on this issue, and it was a major factor in the breakup.

So to answer the actual question, I was very upset with Axl for the Hall of Fame letter. It was misguided, cynical, and stupid. And it still bothers me. The other thing is the fact that he wasted his prime years. Half of it in doing nothing, and half of in doing things that he won't release. It's his life, but as every day goes by, the possibility of making something meaningful out of Guns n' Roses, and the impact it would have, diminishes further. There are and have always been only two choices: move forward in a meaningful way, or reunite. Pick a side and just fucking do it.

I loved Axl's letter to the RNRHOF. Makes me feel proud of being a GN'R fan. One of the few bands out there that is 100% to what they believe. And there's a punk attitude to it that it's in GN'Rs soul since the beginning.

As fars as Axl losing his prime years, etc... you're judging someone else's life. People usually watch the amazing '93 gigs and believe that band could have done much more at the next years of the 90's if they were still together but for the little we know of all the shit Axl was dealing with inside his personal life (not mentioning Guns here), it could be a disaster and a horrible thing to watch. And each one of us has its own timetable. For me, the best GN'R record is CD and I'm loving the gigs since 2009 (even though I love Bucket - and I'm a Guns fan since '89, been in 2 gigs in 1992), so who knows where and when are you gonna have your "prime years"? Or "more prime years"? I see Axl screaming his lungs off on Shackler's in Japan '09 in much better shape than EVER. I think some people judge based on what didn't happen in a way they ignore the present and in a way they don't expect better things for the future. This is strange.

But I know something: after all these years, I believe in Axl. I believe in this band.

  14. Think the CITR outro might be Finck..

    ur probably right!

I hope there's more Bucket + Robin + Paul on a new album because the next album (doesn't matter when it happens) will probably be the last chance to hear 'em on a GN'R album.

I think the outro is Bumblefoot.

As far as there being more of the old members on the next album, I doubt it.... Chances are it will be the material they wrote during the CD sessions, but I'm sure by now Bumble has rerecorded over 90% of Buckethead's stuff and I'm sure that Axl has had Dj record over Finck's parts. Paul I'm sure could still be on, since he was on CD songs even though he hadn't been in the band for years. I'm guessing since he is a close friend of Axl, he's still considered a part of the band.

    Chinese Democracy

the guitar right before Robin's main riff (0:47)

the shredding guitars right at the start of the song and before the solo (1:33) (2:53)

the 2nd bit of the main solo (3:22) that's extended through the outro, following Axl's vocals (3:38)

    Shackler's Revenge

    the main riff (0:00) (0:24) (1:08) (3:31)

the industrial guitars on the left channel on the verses (0:10) (1:12)

the whammy guitar riffing during the main chorus ("I dont believe there's a reason") (0:54) (1:43)

    Better

the lick right before the 2nd verse (1:20)

    the 1st guitar solo (2:15)

the shredding licks and the killswitch right before Robin's solo ("All that I wanted") (3:24)

    Street of Dreams

    The outro solo (3:50)

    If The World

    Flamenco guitars throughout (0:07) (2:00) (3:07) (4:12)

    Solo (3:19)

    There Was a Time

The guitar following Axl's vocals on the 1st verse (0:14-0:55)

Outro guitar solo (4:43 thro the ending)

    Scraped

The lick right before the 2nd verse (1:15)

    The outro guitar solo (2:55)

    Riad

Guitar licks before the choruses (1:28) (2:26)

The guitar "duel" at the ending of the song (Bucket on the left, Ron on the right) (3:30)

    Sorry

The main wah riff played throughout

    The main guitar solo (2:56-3:38)

The wah guitar on the left at the ending (5:35-5:58)

    I.R.S.

    Guitar Solo (3:33-3:54)

    Maddy

Guitar on the left after the verses (1:09-1:40)

    Main Solo (3:02)

Wah guitar on the left during the 2nd verse (1:57-2:56) (I am not totally sure, could be Robin during the verses but I'll check, it's probably Bucket)

    Prostitute

Guitar following Axl's vocals on the left (0:36-0:58) (1:44-2:10) (3:28-3:33)

    Both guitar solos (3:03) (4:19)

Shredding reeeeally low in the mix starting at (4:54)

Keep in mind that most of his rhythm stuff is on the left channel, but there's Rich, Paul and Ron that also added some of their guitar tracks on the left channel so it's hard to know exactly. Songs like Maddy and Prostitute feature him heavily on the rhythm.

I didn't know bucket was on that much material... I always imagined Scraped and sorry were newer songs written after he left.

I believe som stuff will be rerecorded but since Axl isn't mad at Robin and Bucket, I don't believe he would lose a great song just to not have 'em on board on a new album or to lose a great guitar solo just to replace it. I truyl believe Axl fights for the best sound, doesn't matter who plays.
