  1. Their toughest draw is North America. Some of the bigger markets like Toronto or New York they can either sell out or get close to it, but others then might only do 6000 tickets or so. Both Hamilton shows I saw (2010 and 2011) had an estimated 6500 tickets sold out of 15 000, whereas Toronto 2010 was confirmed to be sold out (all 15 000 tickets).

I was at Toronto 2010 - there were tons of empty seats in the upper deck

  2. I went through and found all the NewGNR concerts with attendance greater than 80,000:

    01/14/2001 - Rock in Rio III (festival) - 200,000

    08/24/2002 - Pukkelpop (festival) - 100,000

    06/02/2006 - Rock am Ring (festival) - 80,000

    06/29/2006 - Roskilde (festival) - 80,000

    08/27/2010 - Reading (festival) - 88,000

    10/02/2011 - Rock in Rio IV (festival) - 100,000

Buenos Aires 2010 was the highest attended non-festival show (sell out crowd of 45,000)

  3. It's worth noting that you can see the concert for free if you have a boat.

Years ago, there was a waterfront bar at the Outer Harbor called The Pier and the local radio station WKSE would have an annual summer concert with national acts. I remember boats would be on the water outside the concerts and people would be partying :)

ok where can i rent a boat?

  5. Haven't been to that Artpark series in a few years...is that a new thing that they're charging? I don't mind, it'll probably keep the crowds down. Gonna check out Chicago and ZZ Top this year at Artpark...I wish Bad Company wasn't while I'm in Europe though :(

Artpark started charging because a couple years ago when it was free they got like 40,000 people for ZZTop and Lynard Skynard in consecutive weeks, and all the Lewiston residents complained that there was too many people, haha.

So the charge for admission is actually to keep attendance down.

The Outer Harbor is a fucking joke. Imagine a giant abandoned parking lot.

I live in Buffalo - I will not be going to this.

They should have teamed up with Buffalo Place for a concert at Canalside - much nicer space for a concert outdoors in the city.

Can you explain specifically why you would not go to the venue?

It's a pain in the ass to get to, and since there's only one ramp to get in/out of the Outer Harbor, I'd expect no less than 3 hours delay getting in and out of there for a major concert. The Outer Harbor isn't even serviced by Buffalo's lightrail, so you can't even take a train to beat the crowds.

    Not worth it.

  6. we're creating euphoria for nothing, they said "concert announcement" not "tour announcement" or "major concert announcement"

    This.

I'm interested to see how many people show up, for better or for worse. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones had over 10,000 at this venue last summer, that's a massive crowd by their standards.

GNR is *not* playing the same venue that Bosstones did last year. Bosstones played Canalside as part of a free concert series - that space is right next to HSBC Arena.

The Outer Harbor is way the hell out of the way - there's no bars/restaurants within a mile of it.

Thanks for the clarification, didn't realize they were unrelated. I'd never been to any of these outdoor concert series shows until the Bosstones.

Buffalo has like 6 or 7 concert series during the summer - it's kind of awesome and kind of retarded at the same time.

I saw Crowded House at Canalside a few years back - probably the best concert I've ever experienced.

For anyone interested in coming to Buffalo, here's all the concert series:

  7. And if you're craving wings while you're here, hit up duffs, not anchor bar!

where is Duff's in relation to venue?

You can get Duffs in Toronto. Anchor Bar is the known wing spot in BUF. I hear its god but have never been there.

Anchor opened here recently, ok food SHIT service

Actually there is a place less than 10 minutes from the venue called Gabriel's Gate that a lot of people think has the best wings in the city, I fully recommend it

    Pics of the "venue" -

Here's what it looks like when its packed though: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150630436255003&set=pb.133140320002.-2207520000.1367370564.&type=3&theater

That's not the same place. The pic you posted is right next to HSBC Arena at Canalside - that's where Tragically Hip played as part of Buffalo Place Rocks The Harbor:

GNR is playing at a shitty competing concert series at Buffalo's Outer Harbor - almost a mile away from HSBC Arena on a piece of abandoned land:

  10. Axl seemingly did one take for every song vocally, and then autotuned the vocal tracks years later.

    Autotune on everything.

    Overdubs on everything.

    Scraped is hilariously bad.

Axl and Caram Costanzo hacked up multiple guitar takes and pasted them back together using Protools, creating solos that no guitarist ever actually played. Brian May and Bumblefoot were pissed about this.

  11. If it is not Chinese Democracy, then WHAT is ??

By 'Greatest' I mean in the real sense of the word (not just your favourite...) -- eg. impacted the culture, was exceptionally inspiring across many points of reference... etc.

I have resisted the urge to make this another poll topic, because I doubt there are many contenders...

    Chinese Democracy didn't impact shit.

St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley is the last album I can remember everyone young and old buying.

  12. It took Axl 10 years to pose for a band photo - maybe if he wouldn't have waited for so fucking long to help promote the new lineup, public perception would be different.

  13. Does anyone else remember that one bootleg company that used to have ads in all the big music magazines was selling a 2-VHS version of GNR's Rock in Rio III show for like $30?

I think that's how I first found out it existed. I saw the VMA performance, saw the magazine ad soon after, then found a DVD copy of the show on eBay.

  14. Doubt it. He's lived most of his life without the internet and dealt with people talking about him for more than half his life, I don't really think he's bothered about people's opinions or whatever.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hahahahahahahahhaha
