  1. At the basis of most major religions is a common thread to accept people as they are outside of social status and standing, to forgive and be mindful of other people's challenges, to relinquish possessions - or at the least the need for *more* - and so on.. at least in terms of Christianity and Buddhism, what largely started as a personal tradition/philosophy has become widespread with layers of supernatural elements, publish worship in extravagant temples and churches, and so on..

Don't let it bother you too much arnold layne.. when you are affected by other people's perceptions you're allowing them to affect you and it means that you care in some way.. so just worry about yourself and doing the best you can for yourself.. everyone has a different way of trying to understand life - most people consider this through religion and philosophy..

  2. As of now there are a few ways I would consider a question like this..

From a historical and fantasy/nostalgia view of course everyone would like to see Slash & Axl working together, even just for a one off let alone an album/tour... however, considering their current relationship, or lack of (from what we know), and the feelings they have expressed, do you really want to see them forced to be sharing a stage as uninspired musicians close to their 50s trying to recreate a time and attitude from their 30s?

Regarding Robin, he would be the best and most likely (between him and Slash) to return based on his guest spot in 2012, and as a significant contributor to CD + the other unreleased material - but I'm not entirely sure he will be inspired to return largely repeating the same setlist heavily focused on pre-CD material with some new covers.. if there was new music coming out that they would actively promote, then yes absolutely..

  3. Compared to parts of 2006/07 or even 2010 his vocals were not at their best, but he had alot of energy and drive in his new music and what he was trying to achieve with his band.. the Boston 2002 show is always great to revisit and there are moments that stand out to me, the version of "November Rain" from Leeds, a take on "Live & Let Die" (can't recall exactly which show it was) with two very strong screams.. of course Finck, Brain, and Buckethead.. good times..

  4. Yeah that was entertaining at the least.. really, you have a rare opportunity to ask a great songwriter and guitarist who was part of an iconic rock band any variety of questions, yet that doesn't stop the likes of:

    Q: Izzy, I'm hungry.
    A: go eat
Q: Have you ever had sex with Axl?
    A: .....no

I dunno, you can only laugh..

  5. This statement is dreadfully worded, and it does nothing to inspire any confidence in anything new even being written anytime soon.

Is the disconnect between management and the fans now so great that they don't have an inkling of how important new music is to the fanbase? Seriously.

No it's not that they don't see it's importance, it's that they don't care and want to continue to run things on their own terms. They know that the continued live tours is a easy and convenient stream of money so why complicate it trying to manage something as complex and critical as a new album release if you don't have the industry knowledge to handle it in the first place.

  6. We are asked to treat their management and crew with courtesy and avoid personal attacks, which I appreciate, but I don't expect they would reciprocate that level of courtesy to their fans if they were to confront any one or all of the members here, Beta and Axl's comments to Madison being one example, irrespective as to that person's motives and intent in highlighting what at the time was a major concern regarding the question of fans being removed from concerts due to their choice of clothing.

  7. Only with this crew is enthusiasm from fans about a new album or requests for additions to the setlist regarded as a complaint and/or a person who shouldn't be considered a fan.

From firsthand accounts and personal experiences of interacting with musicians across a variety of genres and success levels, most musicians and bands are very appreciative/responsive regarding song requests or enthusiasm about new music.

  8. Thanks Marc. Anything to share about Buckethead or Robin in particular? Sorry to repeat the question but hard to really get a idea how they worked behind the scenes because they don't speak much about their experiences. Understand if you prefer not to discuss anything specific.

  9. Hi Marc, first time I have interacted with you, but appreciate you take the time to check in here.

You mentioned you heard new music in a playback session and not being present during recording, but just wondering whether you met/interacted with any of the band members of the period, and any observations behind the scenes so to speak, whether it was how they worked with each other, how they felt about the project, and so on? People like Buckethead and Robin had a significant presence on "Chinese Democracy" but they have spoken the least (or not at all) about their experiences.

  10. Maybe Axl thought you were sarcastic about liking it and thought saying he was going to release it was rubbing shit in your face. :shrugs:

Just because they have a scapegoat in the label doesn't mean they're really trying to release anything. Is there ANYTHING to confirm that they are working on it? We've heard all of this before. They haven't even been in the studio together.

There could be unreleased music from that time period which was completed or close to completion, so I don't think they would need to book significant studio time, if any.. When Ron joined he added to music that ended up on CD as well as other songs which haven't been released yet.

  11. Yeah, no disagreement from me about "Oh My God" either, great song with alot of power but don't think any of the versions we have heard so far give it any justice; the soundtrack version is a little muddy and the instrumentation on the pro shot version from RIR isn't very well balanced.

  12. Really enjoyed the song since I heard one of the live recordings, I think it was from 1/1/01.

I asked bbf in one of his video chats and he put it down to the difficulty in vocals.

Thanks, that clears it up I guess. I do wonder how that case got settled. As the case was still ongoing when they started the 2009 tour I guess that's why they didn't perform it in Japan.

Anyway, it remains a good rocker!

I don't think the lawsuit has anything to do with it - the song itself has been performed sans new intro back in 2002 and would be incredibly easy to just not do the intro.

The lawsuit has nothing to do with it being performed live

Well the lawsuit didn't come till 2009 (after CD had been released) and and I'm willing to bet that intro was done at a later stage of mixing as it didn't appear on the demo version (see instrumental earlier in this thread), which is why it would not be present in the 2002 live version. As for Rhiad being on recent setlists, to my knowledge it hasn't been played live after CD got released in 2008, let alone after 2002?

No but I think it might been in one of those setlists with the options that turns up from time to time, where people first knew about "The Seeker", "Going Down" etc.

  13. Probably because only 12 people actually like the song (six or seven of which have posted here).

Saw it performed in Detroit in 2002. Easily the worst received new song they played that night (mind you, most of the new stuff didn't go over great, probably didn't help they played them all in a row).

Significant low point on the album for me.

Appreciate your opinion but it's probably hard to absorb new songs being performed for the first time, as opposed to debuting a song live for the first time which has already been released in some form.

  14. Really enjoyed the song since I heard one of the live recordings, I think it was from 1/1/01.

Yeah I thought that the legal issue might have prevented them from playing the song as well. Even though they wouldn't need to reproduce the intro live, I thought the fact that there was an issue might have prevented them from airing it, in a similar way to how people aren't allowed to discuss issues under legal review.

Anyway, do you think Axl could pull it off with his current vocal approach? I think if they slow it down a little bit, and Axl doesn't do the ah-ah melody before the verses, maybe..

  15. While he was taking photos with everyone, I said 'love silkworms Axl'

It's awesome that you got to meet Axl but you have to be one hell of a nut-swinger to say you love Silkworms. That is by far the worst song ever written by GNR.Now if the final version is different, great but based on what we have heard I doubt it will be a GNR classic.

Well people have different opinions don't they? The version from RIR isn't very consistent but I think the instrumentation is a new and interesting approach for GNR. In any case, it is known that the song has changed, so let's wait and see.
