  1. The vocals on this are insane. In a much higher register too. Makes me wonder if Axl didn't just record a different take using a slightly altered melody and they've taken it here and raised the pitch on it.

  2. Interesting. I always hoped that BOD and Mi Amor would get some studio treatment. Be cool to hear them in full. Blood in the water is still horrible too.

  3. Huh? There were more leaks?

*edit* I've now actually read the board and caught up.

I like the DJ solos. Maybe a little too much wah on ballad of death tho. Just a little.

  4. I think more than anything, it's a pop at KISS. He's talking about farewell tours and how they're not honored. Also playing with two original members. Peter criss couldn't cut the mustard playing and is his own worst enemy. Ace left after the "farewell" tour because to him, that's what it was.

I saw KISS and motley together in Australia at the start of the year. I'm actually kind of glad that tommy and eric replaced ace and peter (more so because of the live aspect) KISS can now play most anything from their catalogue because tommy and eric are great musicians. They just need their own make up.

As for motley, they were great. And boy were they fuckin loud! Vince's voice has sucked for quite a while now. But for me, that's not why I watch a motley show. Their songs are written for a whole stadium to sing along to, so who cares if you can't hear Vince. Frankly it's probably a good thing.

On topic though, I don't think it has anything to do with Axl at all.

    Ack

    Ack indeed!

  6. Historically (in VR and Snakepit eras) I think Slash minimised GNR songs for two reasons:

    1. Let's be real - Axl's songs are hard to sing cos of his range and technique and most singers can't do them justice.

    2. I think on some level Slash was "protecting" the idea of a reunion one day. He was happy to do little tributes to GNR, but I think he was avoiding full GNR heavy sets because he eventually hoped at some stage the original line up would sort out their shit.

I notice however that the trend changed when he found myles. This is firstly because myles can hit the notes (sure some people hate his tone - but I mean he can at least hit the parts - unlike say scott who would have to sing nighttrain in a different key) and also I think slash has become increasingly aware that a reunion isn't going to happen - from when he was refused access to axl during the house visit, to the RRHOF debacle, I think he just accepts it's not happening now, so he no longer sees the reason to deny his heritage, After all the GNR stuff is some of his best riffs and solos.

As for the RRHOF. I think perhaps the reason was Myles showing respect to the fan base - rather than Axl per say.

I read somewhere Myles was hesitant to do the show - he likes to play with Slash - but he's not trying to be GNR2 and he understands that most GNR fans want Axl with Slash. I'm pretty sure he thought playing the show at all was opening the door to abuse, and I don't think he wants to be considered as the Axl replacement kind of thing. I think he wants conspirators to be it's own project with Slash - rather than him being seen as a Scott clone or an Axl clone or whatever. Anyway he eventually decided to play the show as a favour to the guys....but I think for that reason he will have focused on delivering the songs he can do the best....and we all known jungle isn't his best.

So I'd say it's out of respect to the GNR legacy and the fan base and not directly for Axl himself...but just that as a fan of GNR and a friend of Slash - he wanted to make the induction go smoothly and be as good as it could be in the absence of the real singer.

Right on man. Agree with everything you said. I don't really like Myles too much on the second slash album. I thought he was great on the first with starlight and back from Cali. But I love him in Alter Bridge. That's a band that his voice is perfect for.

  7. Bon Scott was not good. At all. Living in Australia, and perth at that, all I ever hear is how amazing Bon Scott was. I can't think of anybody more overrated as a singer. Even though I can't stand ACDC, I respect what they have achieved. Even if they have played the same song for close to 40 years haha.

On topic tho, Axl in the Lies era was amazing. The sheer power and the fact that nobody at all sounded like him at the time is what helped propel GnR (or at least opened the doors).

The king (or queen even) is still Freddie Mercury though. Hands down. All time greatest. Words can't explain

  8. Back to the Future. I was great, II was good, III was shit.

Indiana Jones, though in this case it's the second that stands out as shit, so I guess it doesn't really count.

I agree in part about Back To The Future in as much that part III is the weakest, but it's still a great movie.

Temple of doom is the Indiana jones dud. Spielberg's wife does my head in. I just can't stand her. Best part of that movie? The fact that the little Asian kid from the goonies plays shortround. I don't count Kingdom of The Crystal Skull. I don't think anybody else should either.

One of my favorite movies in a trilogy, which is now no longer a trilogy, is Die Hard With A Vengeance. Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson worked great together. Up until those sequels, that was one of the best trilogies out. Number 2 was the weakest of the 3 but was still a kick arse movie.

  9. In Axl's prime, he was peerless. He is the No. 1 frontman in R&R history, in my mind.

Maybe you can say Mercury had the better voice, but everything else, all Axl. He had the charisma and danger. He owned the fuckin' stage.

I never get tired of watching this. Look at how the crowd just goes ape shit when they come on. He has them eating out of the palm of his hand. That is the sign of a great frontman. Freddie, by far, was the greatest frontman of all time.

  10. Flat and hard trajectory, my arse. I saw the mike get thrown and it looped into the crowd. Then heaps of hands went up to grab it. There's no way he wouldnt have seen it coming. I think this guy just fucked his catch up then it hit him.

  11. Well that was a good concert. Ive been to a few GnR ones over the years, and he sounded the best last night for a long time

There were definitly moments when it was average>poor, but for the majority of the show it was good.

The band were really tight, and the thing i enjoyed seeing was them messing about a bit and having fun..like someone threw a teady bear on stage and Axl ran it down the keys at the end of NR.

Somebody wrote "Rons mind being else where..." Na man he was there fully enjoying it. We met him before the show and he was in a great mood and really looking forward to it. He spwent quite a bit of stage time directly in front of us (we were centre on the barrier) and he was def having fun as was every one else.

BTW was cool meeting some of you guys!

That's what I was saying. People can judge and complain all they want, but they didn't see the whole show like we did.

The whole band look relaxed and like they were enjoying themselves. Axl and the whole band at one point were teasing DJ about his shoes or something. Ron look like he was in a bit of pain after the bows, but other than that, he seemed fine to me.
