They had Buffon, Davids, Del Piro, Neved, Trezeguet, Thuram. Juventus team was almost as much of a video game team than that Madrid side of the time, except Juve could defend. Great team. I remember a point where they were playing best football in Europe of all the top teams, then within a year their was the match fixing scandal.

AC Milan were great at the time and Inter had a decent squad, but I still don't understand why Juve officals really felt they needed to cheat to win when you had a squad like that. Several of them were good enough to help Italy win the World Cup right after.

It was never as simple as match fixing. In fact, it didn’t take place and that was deemed so in the original trial.

The nuts and bolts is that Juventus were found guilty of speaking to the referee designator (so as to gain favour in which referee is selected for which match). That was worthy of an ‘article 1’ violation, which should lead to a fine, or points deduction at most. ‘Article 6’ violations, match fixing, was not part of the verdict.

Ok then, the issue is it was decided that there could be fixing if they are talking to referees. Nothing was ever found.

The next part is, the designator said speaking to clubs was encouraged as to open dialogue. He spoke with officials from many, if not all, clubs.

So Inter get awarded the 2006 title as Milan who finished second was also implicated. They claim it is justice. But a few years later phone calls from Inter officials doing the same thing Juve and others did were made public. Nothing came of it legally as the statute of limitations had passed. Inter gets away with a title, et al, Juventus are relegated and other clubs get deductions.

Not all phone calls between clubs and referee designator were used as evidence in the original trial. Something which should have taken months/years was rushed through in weeks ahead of the season. And running the trial was a former Inter board member.

  2. Streaming I don't like because you can get a dodgy connection from time to time, you can't record matches (I like to record games on tv, when I'm bored I go through and watch goals, etc) and there are just fewer hassles when watching on tv.

In Australia we don't need as many channels as that to see the main leagues, but you need Foxtel (our Sky) to watch Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and various other leagues. We get one Premier League match a week on free tv, but the rest of the coverage is on Optus (a phone company which started a streaming service). Optus also have the Champions League, Europa League, international matches. I'm lucky as my phone plan is with Optus so I don't have to pay any extra for that service, otherwise it's another cost.

Optus is a new player on the market, they also had the World Cup but their coverage was awful and didn't work half the time. It ended up reverting to free tv.

A few years ago you could watch all of the above on Foxtel, and free tv.

Proper TV station but only 1 of the 2 channels are in HD and its £4 dearer a month

Ah right. As I said, better than streaming, but it is one of those things where if you're not that into something then having to buy an extra channel to watch only that is probably not worth it.

I miss the days when coverage wasn't as splintered as now.

Italian football was alright back then .. I can't really see it making a comeback to the days it was that big but I think that is down to ITV no longer having coverage you need Eleven Sports now days I can't get into this streaming shit

That Eleven coverage has ended (well, is ending in a few weeks) and it is going to be on Premier Sports. I don't live in the UK so don't know for sure, but I think that's a proper TV station. Which is far better to watch anything than having to stream.

Is this that fairly recently released one with the games in built?

Sony did a PsOne version that flopped pretty hard.

I was at the shops over Christmas and had the PS Classic in my hand, but then saw the NES Classic and went for that instead. Can't say I regret it, although I may pick up the PS another time.

For me I place the 1985-93 era on a pedestal so that even the most insignificant persona from that era holds a loftier position than the most significant of personnel that joined the band post-1993.

The classic era is like the football team who won the domestic league and Champions League. Historic time for the club. Then you have the NuGuns era, which is akin to being stuck in the second division. They pushed for promotion once or twice, but only in 2016 did they make it back to the top flight! Even then, the team is not as good as their earlier heyday but it does have its moments.

And it's only natural to remember those who were around in the golden times more than those from when you were in purgatory.
