I wouldn't mind visiting Jerusalem. You can walk the Via Sacra, the route Jesus took to Golgotha. There is also the Wailing Wall which is a left over from the Second Temple. So much history.

    PS

Outside the city walls you have the Mount of Olives (scene of the Transfiguration) and the nearby Garden of Gethsemane (where Jesus was arrested, Judas's Kiss etc). There are a lot of handy maps if you care to search - my Bible actually has one in the back.

Definitely. It would be a wonder to see all of that history.

One city I really want to visit is Ravenna. Given its position as a city in the 5th and 6th centuries it has some very interesting sites. Some of the mosaic work inside the churches is brilliant.

  2. One thing I will say about religion - I do like the church art and architecture. Whenever I'm in Italy I love to go into churches (I haven't been to too many other countries in Europe, but have been lucky enough to see Notre Dame in Paris and St Paul's in London), and from any era they are very beautiful. The Vatican is incredible of course, but others I like include Santa Maria Maggiore and Santa Maria in Trastevere in Rome, plus the Duomo in Naples and Florence. Even churches in smaller towns are fantastic to have a look at.

One day I'd like to get to places like Jerusalem and check out the Holy Sepulchre, Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and more.

Italian-Americans need to stop calling themselves Italian. They are just Americans. They stopped being Italian when their ancestors came to our shores. Just like all the other immigrants.

I would bloody hate if I had to call myself only Australian and not Italo-Australian

I must have missed that Adler quote. Fascinating. It sort of lines up with Doug Goldstein's take on Slash, that he was running the band's business side with Doug and served as the PR wing which seems completely plausible (did Axl do any interviews for TSI?). So Slash was like the COO to Axl's CEO in GnR Inc while Duff and Izzy were on the board of directors.

So while it started off with Izzy, Axl, and Slash running the band during the appetite years together, from Lies onwards it starts to become an Axl/Slash joint partnership through the end of Illusions with Axl gaining more and more ground after Niven's departure.

On the Axl interview question, he was on Rockline (I think that is what it is called) with Slash in early 1994 which did focus on TSI, among other things.

  5. As somebody who has been playing football (soccer) games since the first FIFA in 1994 for me it was always FIFA until about 2000-01, when I discovered the International Superstar Soccer series, which was a precursor to PES. I think games for a time were called ISS/PES, then there was a split and the PES series as we know it today was born. Anyway, I started playing ISS/PES on PS1, then I had both PES and FIFA in 2002 and 2003 I think, but FIFA was awful in those days compared to PES. I did not buy another FIFA until well into the PS3 days. During the PS2 era, PES was the king and all FIFA had over it was licences.

By the time we get to the PS3 era, PES began to dip. My last PES was 2010, I tried 2012 briefly but didn't like it and was buying FIFA every year from 2010. I returned to playing PES in 2015 and have kept at it since. I try both demos each year but don't think much of FIFA at the moment.

What FIFA has is the brand. I think PES, while it has its own faults, is a better game. But it fell quite a long way in the last era and FIFA's stock as a brand grew to huge levels.

Why dismiss so freely that the crown at Notre-Dame is a forgery? We have in our possession items that have survived from far earlier periods of human history than c. 4 BC C. AD 33 - which is comparatively recent really. I'm certainly not dismissing the fact that it may be a (very early and Jerusalem based) forgery but equally I cannot dismiss that it is authentic either. Judging the historical context and ideology of the earliest Christians, and human instinct, It seems perfectly plausible that Jesus's apostles and other associates would collect various items associated with Jesus of Nazareth for preservation soon after his death for (emotive/historic) remembrance and veneration, and preserve those items. It would seem less plausible if they had no interest at all, chucking the crown in the bin! It also seems plausible that they were eagerly preserved during the earliest period of the church. We know for instance that St Peter's bones were removed from the Vatican Hill and stored away safely during the Valerian Persecutions (they were later returned).

I should point out that I believe many relics are forgeries, or at best very suspect. I personally believe the Turin Shroud is bollocks. The Notre-Dame crown however has a history of ownership which can be traced back to a much earlier period than most relics - and to Jerusalem. It also doesn't appear to have any rivals (unlike the various nails say).

I cannot dismiss completely that it is authentic.

I was in Turin last year and went to go have a look at the Porta Palatina (which I quite liked). I had been walking around for a while so I thought I'd look at one more thing before I sat for a rest. I walk into a church just down the road but didn't even realise it was the church with the Shroud . I had a quick look around and saw a bunch of people in a particular corner so I went to see what it was all about and there it was. Can't say I believe it, but it was interesting to see anyway.

Woww..It´s from about 17 years ago Ronin. When you said that "in the last decade" I thought you meant the last 10 years or something closer to the time he made his last appearance with the band or even newer(because we know people can change their minds..just take a look to the Axl/Slash saga)..Anyway, on this 2001 interview I can see something much closer to a "whatever" than an "I'd love to". So this interview or any other that is not relatively closer to the time when they began to consider doing these shows, are not consistent enough to affirm that he wants to be part of the NITLT.

Look I know that some of you guys(Izzy fans) are so fuckin´ frustrated because you saw in this tour a chance to see Izzy playing live music, maybe the only chance to see him at a show..but it´s not fair try to put all the blame on the band or try to demean this tour..Whether you want it or not, the evidences points much more to the possibility that Izzy doesn´t want to be part of this tour that for a evil plan to keep him out.

What evidences? Izzy´s solo career (no tours,no band mates,no band) Izzy´s low profile philosophy and the "split the loot  equally" demand. To me, those things are much more stronger then some random interview...How and what he do in real life is much more relevant than 17 years old "whatever" statements, especially in this case where we have a lack of information available.

Yeah, I realized that you didn't follow that era. Just to remember, in 2014 Izzy was supposed to do one of those residency shows in Vegas..He never showed up.

Here's a 2008 Izzy interview which touches on touring, the 2006 shows, a possible reunion, etc: http://chinese-democracy.blogspot.com.au/2008/11/exclusive-interview-with-izzy-stradlin.html

  8. I've said it before, but I just feel it's a shame that five guys who are somehow all still alive and - relatively - healthy, cannot put whatever they have aside and go out and play together again. They have all shown in recent years they can still play. Think of all the bands who would love to have a full reunion of members but cannot due to death or whatever. An Appetite reunion is so close yet so far and whatever the reason for that not happening, it is a shame.

Print media is improving. I've been saying this for a long time. You do have to do your research a bit more, but there is likely something out there to suit your interests and preference of quality. Magazines are probably getting more expensive, on average. But paying £5-£10 for an issue in print is a choice of investment in time as well as money. If you really like a magazine, show some loyalty and subscribe. You will always get a discount on the cover price, and it does keep people (like myself) in work.

My two favourite discoveries of the past few years are Suitcase (for travel) https://suitcasemag.com and Noble Rot (food and wine) https://noblerot.co.uk/magazine

As a newspaper journalist I agree - buy the things
