  1. I like a lot of songs from QR's newer era without DeGarmo. But they never had another really good album after his departure. Nothing that touched their golden era. And I'm afraid that with Todd taking over, they still don't have it. It's easy to see them trying to sound like the QR of old, but they just fall flat. Tate is Tate, but the new Ryche just offers nothing substantial. Other than some good moments on Tribe, O:MII, and American Soldier, this band pretty much died after 1997. I hate to say that too, because I'm a huge QR fan. But the band just doesn't have any soul. I see plenty of people regarding their new effort as better than Empire and Promised Land. But it never even touches those records. It has no depth. No impactful songwriting a la 'Out Of Mind' or 'Anybody Listening?'. Nothing to grab onto here, unfortunately. It's a shame really. But the band is pretty much dead to me at this point.

  2. I am really excited, but have low expectations.

I don't think he'll ever top My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

    Perfect album. A classic.

I listened to MBDTF non-stop during a somewhat frenetic time in my life. I was obsessed with it!

Funnily enough I can't listen to it now. Not because I don't like it but cos it's too associated with that time and like an intense love affair, it's over for me! (It is still a great album though).

This is exactly the same as my experience with MBDTF. Great album, but I listened to it an absolute ton during a turbulent time in my life. So, I can't really properly listen to it anymore. Maybe later on. But not now.

  3. Mastodon is one of my favourites. Their two newer albums, The Hunter and Once More 'Round The Sun, are a bit more accessible but still really good. Remission and Leviathan are their more "crushing" albums and have some serious aggression to them. So if you like that kind of sound, then I'd go with one of those to start. But I would have to say their most complete album is Crack The Skye. It was my first Mastodon album and it really got me into them fairly quickly. Blood Mountain kind of bridges the two sides of their sound together, so it's a bit of a different experience, but it's good too.

They all have really interesting guitar interplay and a variety of vocals. So it's never boring, really. I'd say go with Crack The Skye first and see how you like it.

  4. Well, I'll always defend Presence since I love it. It's not just about Achilles and NFBM for me. I love For Your Life, Royal Orleans, Tea For One, etc. Hot Dog is silly and it sucks. But Presence has the silly songs that work well on the actual record, like Candy Store Rock. Even though I like ITTOD, it doesn't feel like a true Zeppelin record for me. It's all over the place. Some great songs, but terribly inconsistent.
