  1. This lineup, is in my opinion, a powerhouse, and I think it'd be a waste if they passed up the chance they have to make at least 1, 2 new songs if not a full album...
That said, if they were to make new music, what's the kind of stuff you want to here?
I'd like to hear some fusion of Slash's solo work with Axl's more experimental direction at least on one song. Something akin to Led Zeppelin's Caroselambra...A meeting in the middle. I'd love to hear another 10 minute progressive-esque song in the vein of Coma or Locomotive. I mean a slim 4 minute rock song is cool too, but I want something of higher artistic value than that myself...Which I feel they're more than capable of even now.

  2. I wonder if he had the same thing that killed Jim Henson. Jim had only flu-like symptoms until he was literally dying...Maybe the same case here? Like a more serious illness misdiagnosed as just being the flu?

An interesting aside to that is i think its gonna contribute to whatever degree to a more divided society eventually.  People understate the power of music, on a grassroots level, to bring people together.  Not in some all encompassing John Lennon-esque peace on earth kind of way but in a more direct sense in that it crosses cultural boundaries and presents you with an experience that is alien to yours.  Music and musical subcultures, for the working class of this country, is probably more responsible for bring people of different cultures together more than any other thing.

What makes you think it will contribute to a more divided society eventually?
I agree with your second point, but I think the age where music can be this almost transcendental experience is sadly over. Buying a record, and hearing it for the first time and sharing in that magical moment with friends and joining a sort of communal group of underground geeks - that's gone thanks to the Internet. In one way, this is good IMO and in another it's bad - it's just another piece of human social interaction killed by the internet. Like in days of old, you'd have kids sitting around the turntable listening with awe to the newest Muddy Waters or the newest Stones or Led Zeppelin or Nevermind the Bollocks - it created special little niches which gave kids without any hope a sense of belonging, an identity, something to look up to, a niche...I don't think that sort of experience that you describe will ever be again. It's a good thing in the sense that, like, if you want to listen to say, Beethoven, no one's gonna look at you and be like, "You fuckin' square, whatchu on about with this classical shite?". In that way, the ending of musical subcultures is sorta a good thing. I mean look how many fist fights Disco inspired back in the day. I don't see music having that unifying power anymore cause its all so fragmented. I mean on paper, Adele is the biggest star on Earth, as big as The Beatles were if you go by numbers alone, yet she's not impacting on society in any meaningful way. I mean, after Nirvana for rock in America (and Oasis in England) and Eminem for Hip Hop, when's the last time you saw any artist really shake and move the nations and unify kids or shake things up socially? Arguably really Tupac was the last big force like that for hip hop overall as distinct from a youth movement IMO.

  4. The artist known as Prince has died ... TMZ has learned. He was 57.
Prince's body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.
Multiple sources connected to the singer confirmed he had passed.
The singer -- full name Prince Rogers Nelson -- had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay. His people told TMZ he was battling the flu.
42116-sub-prince-instagramPrior to his most recent appearance however, Prince had cancelled two shows due to health concerns.
Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album "1999."

He went on to churn out a ton of hits -- and racking up 7 Grammys in the process. He also performed at the Super Bowl in 2007 ... in one of the greatest live performances of all time.
He also sold more than 100 million records during his career ... and the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985.

Prince was married two times -- the first time to his backup dancer Mayte Garcia. They split in 2000. He then married Manuela Testolini ... but they split in 2006.

  5. We live in a post subculture age. The time of any music having dominance culturally is over with in general. We live in an age now where it is cool to practically like anything. The internet, spotify and things along those lines have made it so the music industry, and thus music taste, is fragmented. The old system of a hot genre or a dominant artist, is dead. So in a sense, every genre is alive, because we live in an age where everyone listens to a bit of everything due to music being so accessible. So will rock make a "comeback"? No, neither will Hip Hop. Because neither have truly gone away. Not in the way classical music did. Both are relevant parts of pop culture now because pop culture, as it was understood from the 1920s - 1990s (as a period of trends) doesn't exist anymore. We live in the freest time in history, where you can wear whatever you like and also listen to whatever you like and you won't be uncool.

To start, it isn't the same ratio of AFD members. They play songs like Rocket Queen and KOHD the same was as NuGnR and it is awful.. They have a second useless Synth player like NuGnR.. Annoying Pyro.. Still play 3 CD songs a set.. They even play the same covers as NuGnR... Axl is still in charge.. It is what it is..  Slash and Duff joined NuGnR which is still a major upgrade.

No dif then when when Teddy Zizag, the sax an horn players, the dancers and the Tracey and Roberta were all part of the band...that amounted to 12 people on stage in 92, 93...Much bigger band than today.

And lol, if you are criticizing Fortus' playing get your ears checked. Enjoying his style with Slash has nothing to do with Izzy being there or not.

Yeah. He may not be Izzy, but he's 10000x better than Gilby and his and Slash's playing really flows together well. Izzy isn't there right now, but Fortus shouldn't be condemned cause he's not Izzy. No one hated on Gilby because he wasn't Izzy back in the day.

Frank has gotten more love this week than he has in the entire time he's been with Guns.  It's funny.

I know  there have  always been people who didnt like Matt, but I feel bad that he wasn't even asked.  That's got to hurt.  Just a guess,  but maybe the fact that he played in VR with Duff and Slash may have been a factor.

I don't think Axl ever liked Matt and I think the feeling was mutual. Axl in his 2012 interview where he expressed a (then) theoretical willingness to play with Slash and Duff, said at the same time he didn't get along with the people who joined during the UYI tour (Matt and Gilby). I think with it being Axl, Slash and Duff, the egos are balanced. Whereas with Matt, maybe Matt was more confrontational with Axl and it upset that balance of egos leading to tension. We don't know what went on behind the scenes to the full extent, but Slash in his book does relate an incident which almost turned into a brawl between Axl and Matt. Maybe, for the sake of the band staying intact, it is better that Matt is not involved.

I think Axl and Matt had a similar relationship to the one Slash and Paul Tobias shared. In that, Matt was Slash's "boy" and Paul was Axl's "boy". Bands like Guns or the Stones are a delicate balancing act of egos and factions. Personalities in these kinds of groups matter. Ronnie Wood, because he was able to get along with both Mick and Keith, is credited with keeping the Stones from having imploded - and he got shit on by both sides equally. Mick Taylor on the other hand was tight with Mick Jagger, and hated and shit on by Keith, which in large measure led to him quitting.

  9. For many years, three things seemed certain: Death, taxes, and the fact that Slash and Axl would die without ever sharing a stage again, or even talking to one another.
They've stunned the world by not only reuniting, but also seeming to be friends again, trading smiles and having all the chemistry they had a lifetime ago be still intact - as if they'd never been apart.

Given all the animosity that existed between these for almost a generation's worth of time, and the fact that it seemed like Hell would freeze over before they reunited, does their reunion hit anyone else emotionally and inspire anyone else?

If these two guys could get it together, anything, really, is possible. Not just in music, but in life as well...
    Anyone agree?

    Perfect Crime

    Bad Obsession

My World (I know this isn't a popular one, but I always liked it). B-)

And ... Sympathy For the Devil.  (Again, this isn't a popular one for many people, including the band, since it was made as the band was breaking up. But I actually love this rendition of the song and even use it as my ringtone on my phone).

Good choices. I too would like to see Sympathy, but I think playing it would be too awkward for Slash (he has repeatedly said he detests their cover of it), and might just reopen old wounds. I would kill to see it close out a show - their rendition is a great showstopper in the way PC is - but it won't happen.
