    31. Why?

I don't agree. Name one relevant artist or band making music in 2016 that has been influenced by Hole? What vibe is it you talk about that "can be seen more"? Rock bands as a general rule are largely irrelevant to most people under the age of 20.

Practically every mainstream popstar today cites Jackson as an influence, and it can be seen everywhere.

The whole list is pretentious and smacks of 90s rock critic hipsterdom. I bet the person who came up with it wears Doc Martens and a Bauhaus t-shirt.

Because age kind of matters when you're talking about what younger people like.

Vibe, as in style, look, fashion etc. I'd say there's two over-reaching 'aesthetics' that are popular nowadays: those being the more instagram focused look, aligning with R&B and rap; then the more 'alternative' style that fits in with the look and style (that Hole holds some qualities of, along with Radiohead, The Smiths etc.) Although they tend to crossover a lot too.

It's fine that every popstar cites MJ as an influence, I'm not saying they're lying. But I just don't seem to see it as much as you do.

You're the one getting mad about some random af list online, sounding a bit pretentious because it's not set the way you want it to be.

    Bullshit.

So Hole are more influential to the younger generations music in 2016 than Michael Jackson? I don't buy that for one second.

Not saying I agree with every placement on this list, but in music and just in general, that whole vibe is more present in today's youth that Michael Jacksons's. No one's saying that Hole has influenced music overall more than MJ, but qualities associated with them and their style (outside of their sound) can be seen more.

    How old are you?

  3. Quote

Influence is a fluid concept, so rather than simply tipping our caps to the legends (again), we set out to quantify which are the biggest influences on today’s music scene.

Considering the music and vibe that's popular amongst 2016's younger generation... it's true. Like NME said, regurgitating the same list of legends is kinda dumb, especially when the majority of the younger generation listen to music that takes more inspiration from 1990-onwards.

I would probably put more hip-hop/rap artists higher up on the list.

New reports indicate the shooter was a frequent guest at the gay club where he killed 50 people. It has also been claimed he had been active at a gay chat service for a long time.

Exactly why homophobia is the core issue here. The denial that this is a homophobic hate crime is because homophobic people don't want to recognise that they share a trait with someone capable of this atrocity.

First off, very sorry to hear about the tragedy in your home town, Kasanova. I feel with you.

Secondly, since @downzy didn't provide a thread foro that offshoot discussion, I will concisely point out that almost all terrorist attacks in the Western world today is perpetrated by followers of deviant Islam.

That same logic would mean I could say all straight white men are the problem, because they're the ones primarily going on mass-shooting sprees (which I would also class as terrorism, but the US government apparently doesn't want to).

  6. A lot of the media reaction to this is disappointing, but not surprising. They're taking away the focus from the fact that this was a hate crime. These people were targeted because of their sexuality, that and the cultural reliance on guns are what should be discussed. To erase sexuality as a part of the discussion reinforces the idea that it's shameful, an attitude that leads towards violence against minorities.

I read something that said the majority of, if not all, the Republican politicians tweeting about this have not mentioned sexuality or the fact that is was a hate crime at all.

I'm thankful that Obama identified it as both an act of terror and hate.

  7. It wasn't worth my time to watch (except maybe for the purpose of saying I had), it was pretty terrible by any stretch of the imagination - and that's excluding the fact that they killed actual animals.

It seemed to me as though it was trying to operate on a deeper level than what it was capable of, I've seen people refer to it as an attack on exploitation but it falls into that category without nuance.

And at the end of the day, I just think she has so much more to lose than she has to gain if she's lying. It's possible, for sure, but there is so much mitigating in favor of her telling the truth that I'm more inclined to believe her until proven otherwise. Not legally, of course, but I'll be saving any $$ I'd otherwise have spent on his movies or music in the foreseeable future.

I agree, she has so much more to lose. It's not as if this is an actor 'on her level', Johnny is a huge A-list actor (regardless of the recent underperformance of his films). She would know that accusing him could end her career and lead to mass amounts of hate aimed at her.

I think it says a lot that people are willing to believe that she made up a story of abuse, hit herself in the face, convince a neighbour to give a false statement (to obtain the restraining order) and open herself up to this level of doubt and disrespect... instead of being willing to believe that Johnny Depp isn't as nice as they thought he was.

I dont agree that the validity of Woody Allen or Roman Polanskis work is cancelled out by their being cunts, i think it just makes them cunts who make good films, if its true.  Same for Johnny, same for Axl (songs in Axls case).

I just meant that in general, the movie industry and some of the public would and are willingly looking past their crimes to praise them. You can enjoy their art, and unless their personal self is a part of the art, I can sometimes enjoy it separate from them myself.

My problem is the people who believe people like Woody or Polanski couldn't possibly be what they're accused of because their art is so great, or are willing to push those accusations to the side because of the art. I mean, I enjoy The Pianist as a piece of cinema, but I'd much prefer that film was never made if it meant Polanski was brought to justice.

See THAT shit to me is frightening.  Was reading the paper this morning, online paper, and Johnny boy had been playing some gig and this girl was holding a placard that read 'Johnny, my heart is BEATING for you' with this enamoured look on her face and its like, did you write that deliberately?!?  And in the lower comments section was just one post by a Lindsay Depp that read 'that bitch whore bisexual lesbian tramp, she was never good enough for my darling Johnny!'.  It leaves me wondering how some people were raised, it really does.

I mean I'm a fan of lots of people that have done fucked up shit but i consider them cunts for those things, how does one make the leap between someone being adept at playing pretend to them being infallible?  I mean thats basically it, isnt it, he pretends to be other people well.  Now theatre and cinema are the world to me but i still haven't managed that leap, not about Brando, not Olivier, not anyone.

People are so willing to believe their favourite artists aren't capable of being different from their public personas, or try to make excuses for it. In a world where Chris Brown still has fans, and the movie industry values the 'art' of Woody Allen or Roman Polanski over their personal actions... I wish I could say I'm surprised at the reaction to the abuse in this case. People (also Johnny's reps) using Amber's bisexuality to push the agenda that the was 'unfaithful' for simply having female friends etc. is just proof of how deep they'll bury their heads in sand to cape for people like Depp.

I would be a bit more forgiving to those saying "let's not take sides" if they weren't the same people who were pre-judging her and calling her a gold-digger before the abuse allegations were made public. That argument only seems to come in to play when being used to defend the person they want, in this case Johnny. I mean, wtf is this?

  11. Gene has taken to saying any ridiculous thing that enters his mind to get some attention. He can act like a puritan about not having drank or done drugs in his life, but it isn't as simple as 'just not doing it' for everyone.

Odd Future were my favourite rap group for a couple years, I loved the uniqueness of them!

I still don't understand what happened to them and it was a pretty quick "fall"

I hope they come back soon

I was more in to certain individual members than the collective as a whole, but I'm pretty sure Domo Genesis and Earl have 'made up' with Tyler. Not sure if he and Hodgy have settled things, and Frank is probably just sleeping all the time. Their music was really fun, and they always seemed to be enjoying themselves so it's a shame.

The Internet is a pretty great group, their sound is definitely something I've appreciated recently. Syd's got a great voice.

I can definitely see why Frank, and probably Syd might've come to be uncomfortable in the group. It was probably a mixture of drugs (besides Tyler) and too much reliance on one another that ruined them tbh.

    He's for sure worth seeing!

& yea kinda the same thing with Tyler, The Creator... both have diehard fan followings

The good recommendation is making me even more bitter that I've not seen him yet.

Tyler's situation was so strange, it felt so sudden. Especially since the entire OFWGKTA group fell apart; Frank never really seemed to 'fit in', Earl seeming to be too mellow for their vibe, Tyler beefing with Hodgy Beats etc.

At least they know they can count on the fans that are still there after they fall.

    Yeah he is pretty underrated!

L$D is a great video, love that song too!

I've seen him live twice now, 2013 & 2015....he was great both times

I've not seen him live yet, there's always something objectively more important getting in the way whenever he comes here. One day though... lol.

It always seems like he gets a push, but on the large, people don't connect to him. It's a shame, but at least he's got a loyal and consistent base of fans.

I read Jared went to a mental hospital for research on his Joker role. Interesting. I hope he doesn't get any shit from any mental patients or their families.

It's amazing to me that even though he's putting all of this into the role, he still comes across as a watered-down version of Heath Ledger's Joker (so far). Jared's a good actor, but he always seems to be method for the purpose of praise and not for the legitimacy of a role.

    Thanks!

A$AP is also one of my favourite rappers!

NP! Rocky's a fave of mine too, he always seems so underrated. ALLA is a great album, and the L$D vid is practically art imo. He's consistently delivering great music.

I feel bad for him because I'm pretty sure Coachella cut off his set.
