Or Axl is a hypocrite acting cool about it for the crowd and then having his minions take the sign away from the girl?

No, I don't understand this shit band either but I don't think Slash and Duff would have asked for that.

Or Axl was honestly cool with it, but he thought it would be insulting for Fortus and asked for it to be removed. But even if it is the case, I'm not gonna defend him.

I agree about the lame "sign policy".

Well I disagree here but I don't know why I disagree lol because I think I should ask you first why you think he wrote aggressive lyrics for Erin?

    which song is like that?

Locomotive comes first to mind, but maybe it's isn't solely about Erin. By "aggressive" I mean that he blames both himself and the other person(s). It is like "I did this to you and you did this to me" or more accurately like "I did this to you because you did this to me". Even in Estranged he says "When you took everything / Said you took everything from me". In TIL the subject is a brokenhearted person who has lost his pride and begs. It's an over-melodramatic song, lyrically and musically (and I think this is why I don't like it, but I admit that the way Axl's singing it doesn't leave me unmoved). There's no begging or this kind of melodrama in his UYI lyrics. Imo it's no coincidence that he covered such a self-blaming song as "Dust in the wind" in 1993, when he and Stephanie were in the breaking.

I think Axl's two serious relationships were dysfunctional in a different way. It seems that Erin really loved him and what he did to her is inexcusable, but it also seems from third parties' accounts that she had some serious issues too. If I remember correctly, even Alan Niven said that she had a way to push his "negative buttons".

With Stephanie he was at a different phase. For some reason he saw her as the ideal woman for a normal, affectionate relationship and for a family. When it fell apart, probably due to both his character and the non-reciprocaity (it seems that Stephanie didn't loved him as much as he loved her), he was devastated and he blamed himself for the failure.

Of course all this is just speculation, nobody could know Axl's feelings and what really happened with his relationships.

I agree with @killuridols. I think Axl has said that TIL is about Stephanie and Dylan. Besides, it doesn't make sense for a song like this to have been written about Erin. Not only because in 1992 he was fully into another relationship and its problems, but also because the lyrics of the songs he wrote about Erin were different, they were more "aggressive" and not self-pitiful like TIL.

"i don't care about you" has that other dude singing too.

to this day i'm not 100% sure who sings what.

Axl sometimes uses different voices in the same song...sometimes at the same time

Yeah, Axl does that. Slash sings with Axl on "I don't care about you" and there others doing backing vocals on the chorus. I'm not sure who says "that hurt" in the end, I think it's Axl.

It was the last song of the set, and Axl blew out his voice from performing that song

Wow. Well, that may be the answer the OP was looking for then, huh?

Yeah, and in the end of "I don't care about you" isn't it him saying "that hurt"? Maybe it hurts because it's exactly shouting with his speaking voice. It's like if any of us would shout for a long time; it would hurt our throat.

  7. @nonok, @killuridols, I don't agree that the lyrics, at least the first verse, are typical of Axl. Imo he would never literally identify himself as "a cold heartbreaker". He preferred to see himself as the victim. Even in his most aggressive and misogynistic lyrics (e.g. Back Off Bitch, Locomotive), he is the heartbroken part. The "rant" part, yeah, could be him.

Btw, can anyone hear what Axl said in the beginning of this video? It's from the Detroit show. I hear "all that sentimental shit" (?) and "sarcastic" but I can't get the rest.

  8. @killuridols, yeah, the criminal records could be a good source. I agree it would be too much for us, but they are not accessible through internet anyway, are they? (and they shouldn't be).

@stella I read in an old thread that years ago a journalist had written an Axl bio which contained details about Axl's father and his murder, but it never saw the light of the day, although it was ready for print.

    -------------

    In lighter topics now... :)

About the kilt... I'm not a fan of it (for Axl, not in general). Maybe if it was shorter, like Duff's... It looks a bit better in the 1985 pictures @Andy14 posted, where Axl wears it above the leather pants; it's an interesting and creative choice.

    Carry on.

Since we were discussing the cat accounts... I saw this video a while ago. The first part is lame, but I think the second part is funny

There are also some videos with cats named Axl :)

  9. This is from Stephen Davis' book (https://books.google.gr/books?id=1Jh4dkcw0nsC&printsec=frontcover&hl=el#v=onepage&q&f=false ):

    davis.jpg

It says that Axl's father was probably two years older than his mother, but from what I understand this book is not reliable at all, because the writer didn't do any original research and his sources are almost entirely secondary (magazines, internet, other books). Even Axl's birth date is wrong (I believe it's February 6 1962).

About the American school system, these may help:

    high school1.JPGhigh school.jpg

It is known that Sharon Lintner was born in March 1945, so she was almost 17 when she had Axl. She is in the 1963 junior class year book @dalsh327 posted because she apparently missed a school year due to the pregnancy.  This makes the William Rose dude that appears in the 1961 junior class year book (assuming there were no interruptions in his school attendance) just 1 year older than her.

                                                                         william rose.jpg

His picture gives the impression of a nerd with today's criteria, but it was a modern look in the late 50s-early 60s, see for example Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, two of the most popular rock 'n' roll singers and teenage idols at the time, so I guess a rebellious teenager or a juvenile delinquent could look like that.

I think the only known picture of Axl when he was about the same age as this guy is this mug shot

                                                                        mug 18 3.jpg

but the face expression doesn't help to see if there is any resemblance. He doesn't look much like his mother either in this picture.

Compared to other pictures of Axl either as a kid or in his twenties, I can't see any similarities between him and this William Rose (except maybe the area around the eyes), while he indeed looks like a copy of his mother in the Rapidfire picture  @Lumikki posted.

                                                            Sharon.jpgrapidax.jpg

I agree with @killuridols that the name William Rose is not rare, but if the two school year books are from the same school (maybe @dalsh327 could help to confirm this), the possibilities of a coincidence are reduced.  And yeah, the eyesight problems aren't more than a slight indication, but the lack of resemblance doesn't mean anything either. There is also the matter of the age difference between Axl's mother and his father. Is there any reliable source about this?

  10. The day Cliff Williams announced he's retiring, AC/DC posted in their fb an interview he gave during the tour, where he said "Axl is doing very well, god bless him he stepped up". Maybe it says something about Angus's intentions.

Regardless of what Angus will do with AC/DC (he'll most probably go on with the brand), I think he and Axl will do something together. They both seem to want it. I'd like to see a supergroup with Angus, Axl and David Grohl!

Of course I want a new GnR album more, but I think Axl could do both.

  11. Judging from other "unpopular opinions" of the guy, he is not to be taken seriously. But it it's not the first time that My World is considered underrated. There was a similar argument at Spin's ranking of all GnR songs, where it was placed at #58, above Michelle, Anything Goes, Reckless Life, Move To The City, Shadow Of Your Love, Shotgun Blues, Back Off Bitch, 9 covers and 4 CD songs.

    7 hours ago, RONIN said:

Yeah -- he did try to explain it during his 2008 mygnr chats. Basically he said that Duff and Slash gave him a thumbs up but that Duff genuinely liked it while Slash knew it would make him look stupid and knowingly gave his stamp of approval. In other words, it was all Slash's fault.

What's the probable truth? Axl stuck My World on Illusion 2 without the band's permission (he has a history of doing this, see "Sympathy for the Devil"). Predictably, it blew up on him once every critic slammed that song and it became a huge blemish on Use Your Illusion just like how One in A Million became for Lies.

Izzy Stradlin':      "There was one song on that record that I didn't even know was on it until it came out, 'My World' (the closing song on Illusion II, written and sung by Rose)," Stradlin continues. "I gave it a listen and thought, 'What the fuck is this?' "

I don't think Axl lied about this (I mean the fact, not the conspiracy theory about Slash). He said specifically that Slash and Duff approved it, he didn't say anything about Izzy. The fact that Izzy didn't know (probably because he had left before UYI was released) doesn't mean that the other two didn't know either. If Axl had put My World on the record without asking them, they would have mentioned it in their books or in interviews, as Slash did about Paul Huges's solo on Sympathy For The Devil.
And I don't remember it being slammed so much. Most critics, at least at the general rock music press (I don't know about the metal magazines), ignored it or passed it with a quick mention as an "oddity", because there was a lot of other material in the albums for them to write about. But even if the song had been bashed, there could be no comparison to the shit the band got for One In A Million. One In A Million wasn't just a blemish, it was a song with offensive lyrics. My World could just be criticized for being a bad song or a song below the band's standards.

has axl ever explained my world as the last track of UYI? was it really an introduction in gnr's next album / sound? for 1991 my world was definately above its time. axl tried to combine rock with rap and electro. sth bands like limp bizkit, korn, etc did years later. but this sound has absolutely nothing to do with gnr. it was a horrible idea by axl to even attemp this kind of sound evolution in gnr. as a side project: why not. with guys like buckethead, dave navarro, buckethead, finck, zakk wylde, dj ashba it would have been a perfect freak show in rock, but under the AFD cross of gnr -> no way.

The same could be said at the time for songs like NR and Estranged though. Even Slash and Duff disliked them and thought that this kind of epics had nothing to do with what GnR was. The "Illusions" had received mixed reviews at the time (in most album of the year lists they weren't placed in the top 10) and they remain underrated til now (see here and here ). The songs that were mostly bashed in the lukewarm and negative reviews were, believe it or not, the "bloated" piano ballads (and "Get In The Ring" for obvious reasons).

Personally I don't consider My World worse than Shotgun Blues or even Back Off Bitch. And the Illusions have so many different styles of songs, so it doesn't bother me in that sense either.

  12. Well, I had a look at the cats accounts. I don't know much about Axl's current "world" and his entourage (a few months ago I didn't even know these people's existence), but I'll attempt to join the CSI team

I interpreted it differently when I saw that post in the social media thread- I just thought that Axl probably likes his elephant joke so much that he's probably told it to everybody by now. And Dizzy has probably heard it a million times already after all these years, so he is telling it to other people now as well if he needs a joke lol.

Yeah, this makes more sense than Dizzy being the cats

    Thoughts about the accounts:

    - It's not necessarily the same person behind both accounts, but they are definitely related. I incline toward being two different people, because of the differences in writing and content. For example: Dijon doesn't use abbreviations ("u" for "you" etc) while Dexter does (and so does Axl :smiley-confused2:). Dijon always tags Axl's and the band's official accounts; Dexter does it sometimes, but he mostly tags TB (Beta, Fernando) and band members. Dexter follows a lot of accounts, while Dijon follows only Axl and Dexter. Dexter refers to Axl as "daddy", Dijon refers to him by his name. Some Dijon's tweets contain teasing/provocative comments on Axl.

    - Who could be behind these accounts? I don't think an irrelevant person, a fan for example, could know or have access to all this stuff. I also tend to exclude the possibility of Axl being behind both; it would be too crazy, even for him. Hence, either both cats are people close to Axl or one of them (Dexter) is Axl and Dijon is a friend of his (Del James?).

    - In any of the two cases, the cat accounts are probably an inside game between Axl and his friends/entourage.

                                                                                                            And what about this?

                                                          tweet.jpg

Duff's dogs have twitter accounts, too, and Axl's cat retweets Duff's dog :rofl-lol:

                                                                  tweet2.jpg

                                                                  tweet5.jpg

Edit: Twirls' tweets are "normal" and the account seems to be handled by someone in the family. Buckley's tweets are more "weird" and seems like someone's playing , but Susan tags him :smiley-confused2:

Back in November, we told you about how an AC/DC fan club was pleading with the Aussie rockers to mix up their Black Ice World Tour setlist instead of playing the same songs, in the same order, night in and night out. A petition asking the band to change up their shows began soon after, but now lead singer Brian Johnson is firing back, saying that AC/DC fans need to relax and just treat the concerts as "a bit of fun."

But Johnson didn't stop there, according to News.com.au [via Digital Spy]. He proceeded to lay into the fans behind the petition (and imagine he's saying this in his patented, sandpaper-voiced rocker yowl), telling the publication that the fans in question "may cheer at the concerts, they may go home happy, but they only came to hear 'Thunderstruck.' They don't eat, sleep and shit AC/DC like we do. Fuck them!"

Now the curious thing about this is Johnson is paraphrasing the open letter AC/DC fans sent to the band back in November, ripping the "eat, sleep and shit" line verbatim from what was posted by the concerned fans on the band'sofficial fan site.

And Johnson continued his anti-fan tirade, saying, "There are a few cocky fans. A lot of people now with the computers, they sit on their fat asses in their house somewhere going, 'Oh, they played that song last night, they should change it.' Well, bollocks to you. I don't think they realize changing a song in a set now is not the same as it used to be. When you include all the lighting guys, the stagehands, the technicians - there are 85 guys who have to know what's happening if you change a song. We're still doing some of the really old stuff. We're not daft. We realize the fans like the old songs. But boy, it ticks me off when people start petitions. We're not a political party, we're just a rock'n'roll band out for a bit of fun."

Now we love AC/DC as much as the next red-blooded followers of all things hard rockin', and we also admit that maybe AC/DC fans are a bit zealous about the band's live shows, but it sounds as if Johnson's got his trademark flat cap on way too tight.

...then came Axl, and AC/DC played songs they hadn't played for more than a decade or ...never

I don't think the technical issues (lighting, graphics etc.) are such a big deal. They can just show the band on the big screen instead of graphics, like they did during Touch Too Much for example. Besides, the graphics used to the GnR shows are abstract.
