  1. The Libertines are like the best band ever or something.

Well, not really, the second album was crappy, but the first one was close to being perfect.

And they sound really cool even if they're all fucked up players (the drummer was awesome though, but he couldn't keep time)

  2. Is there any band/artists big enough that the Rolling Stones would break their streak of not opening shows to open for them?

No. The Stones are huge. They're great. They're legends. And, for any performer, it is an honour to just share the stage with them, even if it's just opening for them.

And they really are that great. There's no band like The Stones.

    Yes.

  3. The Strokes are cool because they define the joyous abandon of playing music in a rock band. Their first record has a spontaneously realized quality that gives it this raw charm. They're always straddling the line between the abrasive and melodic, not giving much thought to anything in between. That's entirely to their credit, as they're one of the only bands of their generation to capture the positive spirit of rock n' roll. Who doesn't love a group of musicians who just plug in their instruments and give you three minutes of anthemic bliss? They seemed to have been stuck in limbo after the Impressions album came and went, so I'm relieved to know they're finally back in the studio to give it another go..

The synthy riff in Room on Fire's "12:51" is the best sounding thing to ever come out of a guitar..

can you type this stuff without laughing?

if i saw you in real life, i'd love to tell you to get real.

Well it's certainly a well written opinion. I have to admit, it is a little over the top for an internet forum. Reads like something a journalist would write.

Oh shut it. I welcome those that take an extra few minutes to write a coherent and well thought out post.

    Agreed.

that dude should write for pitchfork. i mean, his post isn't too far away from this:

This is an emotional, psychological experience. Kid A sounds like a clouded brain trying to recall an alien abduction. It's the sound of a band, and its leader, losing faith in themselves, destroying themselves, and subsequently rebuilding a perfect entity. In other words, Radiohead hated being Radiohead, but ended up with the most ideal, natural Radiohead record yet.

    seriously?

Well, the whole alien abduction is shitty poetry, but

It's the sound of a band, and its leader, losing faith in themselves, destroying themselves, and subsequently rebuilding a perfect entity. In other words, Radiohead hated being Radiohead, but ended up with the most ideal, natural Radiohead record yet.

That's exactly what happened. They threw OK Computer out of the window and started completely new, and all their records since then have been like that.

  4. It seems to me that Apollo is in all posts trying how far he can go with his racist views and get along with the majority of this forum. and if the majority disagrees it all of sudden was tongue in cheek, just a joke etc..

if everyone would have agreed and shouted "lets burn this fag", we'd probably seen apollo getting his knob oot.

I hate racists but I really really really hate opportunists.

    Spot on.

  5. Anyone who kids themselves into believing Mick Jagger didn't experiment freely in the '60s and '70s is doing just that - kidding themselves. When you're living a life of such excess, and have everything, you're always looking for a new kick. It sounds stupid to phrase it like that, to compare homosexuality to a curiosity and vice rather than just a natural inclination, but within context - for someone like Jagger - I think it's true. It's why so many celebs get into hard drugs or cheat on people (does anyone else wonder why the hell Hugh Grant paid an ugly prostitute for a blowjob when he had Liz Hurley at home?). Think about your life - you always have a goal. You want more money, you want respect, you want a partner. What happens when you get all that? When you have everything you want? Nothing is satisfactory anymore. Money doesn't buy happiness; superficiality is fleeting happiness at best. We're taught that money = happiness and when you achieve fame and fortune and realize that the American Dream is bullshit, you move on looking for new areas of pleasure - sex is one of them. Pretty soon you're trying anything to experience new sensations, new feelings, new euphoria, whatever. Then you turn 50, realize happiness isn't rooted in sex drugs and money, and you settle down. It happened to Bowie when he finally admitted the bisexual thing was a "phase" for him; looks like it happened to Jagger as well. Maybe a few rock stars are just naturally experimental, but a lot of the experimenting going on back in Jagger's era had to do with a bunch of youths living life at its most excessive, constantly looking for new experiences in any way possible, new feelings, and it's the same reason the Romans started all having orgies with each other.

There's my essay. SparkNotes version: yeah, he probably fucked some dudes in his day.

Do you know Maslow? He's got this pyramid of goals thing, check it out

  6. You people are ridiculous.

You need to check your attitudes.

    Do you people ever smile?

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. The Stones are one of the greatest bands of all time.

If you sat Mick and the Boys down with this video and said "whats your first reaction" . . . . THEY would probably laugh and say how gay Mick's dancing looks.

You all need to lighten up a bit. Rock and Roll is supposed to be fun.

THOUGH it is pretty funny to see the opposing views on here. A couple people are pissed that I dare use the word gay with their idolized frontman . . . while a couple people say it's obvious that Mick had alternative sexual experiences.

We all know he looks gay, he dresses like a woman and does gay dances just to fuck around. But you're claiming he's gay as in having a sexual preference for men.

We all laugh our asses off seeing Mick dancing when they do Sympathy for the Devil in the Rock N' Roll Circus and whenever, but dude, he has like over 10 kids and has fucked more women that I'd even dream of.

And he's probably homophobic or something.

  7. I've been listening to Dark Horse constantly. It's an excruciating album. I thought I was going be physically sick after the fourth time round today (yesterday I got to 6 in total, my PB of DH exposure). But I fought through to mild nausea, it's a pretty brutal album. I'm sort of over the lyrically banality and deep into trying to find musical differences between the ballads. To the untrained ear they sound similiar, this is just a smokescreen, just a part of the Chad Trilogy of the Mouth - can you take it? Are you man enough?

Stop listening to that shit, it's doing you no good

  8. After listening to it for a couple of weeks...

The album is great. Much better than Hot Fuss but not as good as Sam's Town. Most of the songs are great. I usually skip I Can't Stay and This Is Your Life, those are the weakest ones in my opinion. The World We Live In is also kinda shitty, nice chorus but the style sucks. And you've got to be in the mood to listen to Goodnight, Travel Well, great, great song, but it isn't uplifting like the rest of the album.

The first half is so much better than the second one. Up to A Dustland Fairytale, all those songs absolutely rock!

EDIT: Counting ADF, it rocks too

  9. which album is better? one is a lyrical masterpiece while the other is modern comeback artist of the year type stuff. discuss

I think that's giving Britney a little too much credit...

I wish Britney would just give us nudes. :(

It's happened before and it was very disappointing. It turns out her vagina wasn't a magical wonderland like we had all imagined.

    Pics or it didn't happen

  10. Yeah, they are up there with The Beatles,Stones, Led Zep,Queen and GnR

Come on seriously you can't just stick all those bands in a post as if they're a stand-alone argument, as if they're part of some category "Greatest bands ever".

And realistically, sticking Guns N' Roses in that list really just proves your subjectivity on the matter, you might as well have said "my favourite bands with a couple that are universally accepted, just to be safe".

Umm,GNR are up there with those bands,

    No.

No Doubt are great, I like them and love their singles

  11. Five tracks into Day & Age on my first listen...and I'm very disappointed. They've always had some filler mixed in with the great on their albums but so far there isn't anything that's close to the best on Hot Stuff or Sam's Town. And I still don't like Human... :(

Don't worry, it all grows on you. I promise.

Not after one listen at least :( I'm gonna give it a couple of more listens before I decide but so far this is easily the weakest Killers album and not anywhere near Sam's Town. And Flowers' isn't close to what he did before...

Human takes three listens to get into your mind, then unconsciounsly you'll be humming it all the time. And you need to digest each song in the album, it takes times, about three listens too (at least that's how it worked for me).
