24 minutes ago, Pishy said:How did she/he acquire this video? Why did they choose to cut out the first 4 and 1/2 songs? On the "teaser" video, people were begging him, seems like he sat on this for years. Maybe he did sell it and release it, who knows really
Well. Guess my yearly visit comes today. 😈✌️
Let’s see. Where to start. The first four and a half songs are not on the tape. Whatcha see is whatcha get.
The backstory; I bought a lot of promo VHS tapes on eBay, two maybe three years ago now. I just assumed the Ritz tape in the lot was the ‘88 show. It sat around my house for a year, year and a half, something like that before I decided to hook up the VCR and watch it. When it came on through that part of Jungle I knew instantly what I had just purchased was a diamond.
I did a shitty and quick transfer to digitalize the tape and then created the Teaser I posted on youtube. I was contacted by gnrontour, and he expressed interest in doing the transfer. Being a huge fan of the jm78/gnrontour Bootleg releases and what he has done for the Bootleg community over the years, I was immediately on board and willing to send the tape out to him for transferring.
We decided to release it on the 30th Anniversary of the show, simply because of the anniversary. That is partly why I/we sat on it. The other reason was to garner interest from other traders...
I didn’t get anything for the show, no ChiDemos, no VMA Rehearsals, nothing like that at all. Only stating this because I see inquiring minds wondering in this thread.

The story though is far from believable. A garage sale? Ok.
How much money he ended up selling it for, only he will know. But the first 4.5 songs were cut because he sold the full length to someone so it keeps the "value" for the buyer, buyer has all of it. Once he sold it, which wasn't yesterday, he "released it all".
some of the comments on the YouTube "teaser" are spot on, that's all I can say.
Lmao. Can ya roll me a couple joints? Sounds like you’ve got some good smoke. The first songs simply do not exist. Whatcha see is whatcha get.

Awesome find - What other tapes were in the lot and which ones did you get?
Lori Earl worked for Jimmy Iovine and Dre, she probably has a lot of ChiDem-related stories on top of everything else that went on in her career.
There were some other random oddities, a Curtis Mayfield tape, some Velvet Underground, A tape of The Smiths, couple others that escape me off hand, lol. Haven't had the time or thought process to decide what I'm gonna do with those.

I really appreciate that this was made available...the only thing I wish is that they had left Axl's full rant in the video. Toward the end of this video he starts talking about how the press is trying to classify the band into one genre or another, and he's starting to make what sounds like a good point, and then it jumps to another clip! Arrrgh! Will have to look for it in the full audio that was posted here.
Unfortunately the transition you see from the rant into Mama Kin is just like it is on the VHS. It's about the ONLY thing I am disappointed with on this tape, lol.

So, I guess I might need to add a little backstory here...(and this is what it takes to pull me away from a multiyear hiatus from Forums...)
In December I purchased a lot of promo VHS tapes, there were like six or eight others in the lot, but I bought it exclusively for this Ritz one, thinking it was a Geffen promo of the '88 show. About two weeks ago I finally had the time to hook up the VCR and watch the tape. Imagine my surprise when it starts with a clip of Jungle, immediately I thought "Hmm, not the Ritz '88, maybe it's Felt Forum" so I youtubed that show and it wasn't. So by this point Michelle comes on and I'm like hmm, this is similar to some '87 sets. So I'm truckin' away though GNRONTOUR and by then Don't Cry is playing on my TV and immediately I knew what show I had. Checked the setlist, watched the rest of the tape and sure as shit. So I ordered up some Video 2 PC thing by Ion, and set to rip it.
Anyways - I'm using this as leverage to get something else for us to watch or hear or whatever. I have received a couple messages from people inquiring but I haven't had the time to follow through yet to test the waters. I decided to make a montage of clips of the show for two reasons - 1. To give y'all something to watch and 2. Proof. Year in and year out there's always someone coming out of the woodwork and claiming to have this video show or that video show or this unreleased song but no one ever has solid proof. Maybe this can drudge out the VMA Rehearsals, maybe this can drudge out something else long forgotten on a promo VHS sitting on eBay waiting to be discovered, who knows. All I know is I have the fans best interest with this, because I want you all to see this as much as I want you all to see whatever else is out there.
Also, I'd like to say that it's great to see this thread here, because it was like a walk down memory lane last night seeing postings from Crazyman, GNR 1991, Bond (whom I recall but can't place, sorry man!) and some other posters during my "glory years" here about a decade ago. Also nice to have some of the positive support of some key players on this board on my side, then again - it stems from years ago when I was what I guess could be considered a "major player" ad knowledgeable source in the Bootleg scene.Crazyman - I totally forgot about that whole Donington Micpad thing! Great times, Timebomb was so pissed off! But man, you're right, there is may elitist bastards in that scene and was one of numerous things that caused me to part ways with that...crowd. Don't get me wrong, there is a handful who did wonders but there's still an elitist bunch.
Anyways, nice hanging with y'all this morning - I'm sure I'll see some of you over the course of the next month or so. To all those who've said a positive word about me in this thread - thank you. Some of you I haven't seen a post from, or talked to in years, so it definitely was surprising to read that so many of y'all remembered some of the things I did for the Bootleg circles years ago.

I'm 25 and prefer Smalls and Mediums. So your point is null and void on the "no one over the age of 18 wears a Medium anymore."

Almost positive the Brockum boxing shorts were just a sample. The others I'm almost sure were NEVER sold on tour as well.

That isn't the original Christmas sweater either.

Eleon the company responsible for Axl's favourite stage t shirts has closed down. Apparently the guy who creates them is focusing on his photography career.
Eleon announced this like over a month ago. There is a high possibility of doing a few runs for Axl though when needed.

Also this is the shirt that was mentioned by the above poster, which is a design that was never made nor sold during the 1987 tour (or thought of during...) and is just a quickly made design to mass produce. http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Guys/Tees/MusicTees/MetalTees/Guns+Nx27+Roses+Destruction+T-Shirt-10188313.jsp

Overpriced. Realistically you should be more in the $200ish (on the high end) range. Not slaggin' ya, just being informational.
-
Yup, somebody paid $72 for a fake. And not even a very good fake.
That one is not a fake. It's an earlier pressing from the mastering company, which is clearly stated on the back cover. I covered this discussion here in the collectors group back in August; https://www.facebook.com/groups/336118726443937/permalink/733778746677931/
Same version as OP went for $153 (same seller as the other one).
The photo the guy listed for that version is off of a collectors site, it's not his own pic. I sincerely doubt the buyer got the real thing. I suspect it was a knock-off like the other one.
Maybe you're not familiar with them, but Amoeba Records is a very well known California Record store. All photos in their auctions are their own photos or scans, usually scans.

I'll send ya a DM on IG - my phones charging right now. I just checked and it's actually an XL.
Actually, is that the black and white one with that demon thing or whatever? I wasn't a big fan of that one... Might take up the offer for the OG Staff shirt, but going to hold off for now in hopes of getting this shirt in a Large or XL.
On a side note: Still looking for a large No Trickery! Staff shirt.
Yeah, that's the one. I've got a few of the AFDem's though.
I have 2 large NT staff shirts but at the moment I'm holding onto those. One for the collection and one for wear.

Yeah it was up for the last two nights. Interested in a large staff shirt from the first run as a trade? Or a large Ridin' The Strip from the second run?

We had a Catcher video in 2010, and Better in 2012. Now we have Sorry.
If The World in 2016. Be prepared.
If you're talking about this one;
that was for the video screens. Same as Sonya Krimsky's video for This I Love; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TLXkNqSZqU.Everytime Axlander posts something on this band, I get into GN'R all over again!
Hope all's well friend!
Well I'll be damned! Long time no see - how the heck have you been?! Ha, I make two posts and all of a sudden EVERYONE I recall is back. Hope all is well with you these days, things are great here on my end. Livin', lovin', rockin' n' rollin' - doing the things I do best.

Seldom post in any section outside of Memorabilia on any forum these days. Active on Paradise City though. Nice hearing from you. Been quite a while!
On topic, I think the CITR video was used once or twice. The Ballet TIL video was used often, and is even in the AppDem release. Sonya's really a nice lady.

Not yet man, haven't had the extra money. Unfortunately.

90 is an unsubstantiated rumor number. That seller, media guy, has already sold all of his. Someone pulled ninety out of their ass and everyone took it as gospel.
-
You're gonna get max of $500 these days for it.
-
Doesn't mean its true. It's been labeled as that for years and yet everyone seems to believe it. It's Izzy n' Axl. Slash is NOT on the track what so ever.
-
It's Alice, Slash, Izzy and Axl and it's awesome.
No it's Alice's band plus Axl n' Izzy. Slash is not on the track at all.
-
It doesn't say anything about UCAP, it's clearly stated that this was a residency boot...

Actually, I’m pretty bummed myself that MTTC is missing. But can’t win ‘em all. Don’t Cry makes up for the lack of MTTC in my books.
