  1. This has been lively and fun reading. If GnR had dissolved itself in 1993 with all members going their separate way to follow their own musical path, would the fan base be asking what does GnR owe them? I don't think so, happiness would be found in AFD, Lies and UYI I and II. But solely because Axl wanted GnR to survive, evolve and grow, we have GnR CD and the possibilities of new music not yet released. By being a fan, we aren't in a contractual relationship nor in a two sided emotional relationship. From the early interviews with Axl it was evident he felt that fans believed they owned him and GnR and fans were a bit of a nuisance. Do I wish he didn't feel this way? Yes!  Those on this forum, are fortunate, there's the letters where he took the time to chat with you and answer questions! From a nuisance (fan) of more than 30 years who only joined this page in the past month, I was very moved by such an act of kindness from Axl toward this group.

The idea of fn' Duff McKagan showing Steven Adler what to play is so absurd that it blows my mind. That's like saying Steven taught Axl how to sing...

Have anyone listened to Believe In Me? Legendary drummer Duff McKagan played drums on most of it. Is there anyone who thinks the drumming on that album is superior to the drumming on Appetite? Personally I haven't heard anything special or memorable on it but I'm sure Duff didn't play his best on purpose to make Steven look cool :smiley-confused2:

It's very logical and likely that Duff and Steven worked closely together on all tracks of AFD and Lies and that Duff told him what was needed. The bass guitar and drums are the driving rhythm section of GNR or ant rock band and the two MUST be on the same page with what they're doing.

Because Duff showed him parts doesn't imply Duff thinks he's a superior drummer it only shows that Duff may be the better musician.

  3. Thanks so much for posting this and those of you that shared your memories of being there that night. I'm the first to say that I wasn't all into NITL, because I lived through the '87 - '92 years and really have no desire to relive those years. (That doesn't mean that I don't love the original line up, I do!) But seeing this, I see just how special it was. Absolutely love this!

Because this reunion is a one time thing and they will disband after the tour is over.

Seriously, if they had any plans for the future they would have said so, but they only reunited to play some shows and jump on the revival/nostalgia bandwagon so typical of this era.

Once its over, everything else will be over.

NITLT tour has been hugely successful. It was the highest grossing tour of 2017. Whether it could have been more successful will always be questioned but as far as GnR, they gave the fans what they've long been waiting for,  shows with as close to the original 5 as we'll ever see. I know when we get a litte, we want more. It's human nature. But our favorite band shouldn't come under attack for giving fans what they wanted.

No it indicates two things. Outdoor stadium season is over at that time of year so that eliminates a lot of stadium options and 2 they can't continue touring stadiums in North America based on nostalgia alone. They can't sell them out and half empty stadiums create a horrible vibe.  They're milking it for all the money it's worth, don't kid yourself.  It has nothing to do with musical or artistic integrity. Sure maybe they enjoy playing nostalgia shows but that doesn't mean anything. That's not why they're touring and we all know it.

I know this is an old thread but I'm new and was reading in search of a question I have about ticket pricing. But I have to ask @Bono Really? GnR is giving fans what they want. The big 3 and performing for 3+ hours. My bet is that if you asked the gen pop what they want to hear, they'd say SCOM, WTTJ and Patience some might extend it to Paradise City and if you asked them the members of GnR they'd likely say Axl Rose and Slash.  How can you criticize GnR for giving the masses what they want? For many many years the masses didn't get what they want. My thinking is that the masses can't get enough of reunion GnR and if the stadiums could have been booked for Winter '18 they would have sold out. Stadiums allow for much less expensive seating than arena. That again makes the masses happy. AFD, Axl and Slash along with Duff who they probably didn't remember and an affordable ticket $.

Yeah, I thought of Leto but he's not a great entertainer or anything of that sort.... He's a big GN'R fan though, but he's really a failure with his band

I also thought of Jim Carrey :rofl-lol: and Corey Taylor fits the description a bit more, not so much the part of "loved by millions" though

That's why I think of someone from one of those TV reality shows because usually those guys are popular and liked by many and are also somewhat talented, lol

Isn't Lambert with Queen or in broadway? The only other rocker I can think of winning won several years ago and had a great rock scream. I could see him covering GnR songs but can't remember his name and I would say very few idol winners are really great entertainers. I can only remember 3 of the past winners name 😆

  7. I was thinking it sounds like a one time thing only. No one that I've seen has thrown out Jared Leto's name. He's certainly a huge entertainer of the last decade. Seriously I don't see Leto doing anything with Steven but he matches the description.

    PS

And 1985 - 1993 was (largely) perfect. Everything worthwhile about Guns N' Roses: everything we want to know concerning their greatness, their musicality and creativity, the reasons for their success (success today in 2018), fall into that 1985-93 time frame.

I can't dispute that GnR has released less material than The Beatles, Zeplin or the Stones but GnR is in the same category as each of those bands. AFD and Lies in the earliest years were like nothing out and Axl was the driving force. But like everything that is to remain current, it must evolve. By UYI II it was evident the band was evolving. Many at the time disagreed with the more elaborate sound. I was very fortunate to see GnR in '89 and '91. Very unfortunate to not see GnR in '87 with the Crue in LA. Not because Axl was late but me 😢   After '87 I quickly discovered GnR which was with me during very turbulent years and credit the band with saving my life. But just like I grew up in the next decade, GnR continued to evolve. I stopped destroying myself and would listen to GnR periodically but mostly I moved on. But when CD was released, I was very curios and rushed to the record store. It's a masterpiece. I realize we're now a decade past CD but I don't agree that everything good happened between '85 and '92  those were turbulent times

I didn't feel a need for a reunion between the original 5 but the NITLT has been great to see.

  9. I'm very surprised at all those that feel betrayed and angry over the news of the last couple of days. From past actions, I never saw NITLT tour as anything other than a tour and what a tour it's been and will be this Summer. We're fortunate to have been able to experience 30 years of GnR. Is this the end? No. But members of the original 5 had different creative ideas which ultimately lead to breaking apart. But was that the end? No. Axl Rose has kept GnR alive and Slash by going his own way continues to play much material from GnR. So you see, GnR will never be dead or over. I would argue the band is bigger than ever and will continue on.

I like @BlueJean Babywill be a fan until the day I die.

  10. I am taking a break from the buck out and thought I'd check GnR forum. The first thing I see is a lot of angry post so to lighten the mood, I find this thread. I love Dexter and Dijon tweets. I only recently found them and they're adorable. But this thread is no lighter and somewhat mean. Does it matter whether it's Axl, someone from his inner circle or a fan? The answer is no and for those that are critical of such tweets I ask who among us that has loved pets doesn't create human personalities for them? I know i do. Hell, I talk to mine and they answer me! Most of these bucking bulls also have IG accounts and post their own pictures 😊 Peace out and back to the Bulls 🐂

If you were into the hair metal scene back in the late 80's/early 90's you would have seen them as Gods, trust me. They were the baddest boys on the block, basically, well maybe until Guns arrived on the scene. Try reading their autobiography 'The Dirt', possibly the greatest rock n' roll book ever written. Even if you don't like their music, you will be entertained.

@bucketfootAbsolutely! Until GnR arrived on the scene, we didn't know better. I was at the Lafayette show when GnR opened for the Crue. After the show, no one was talking about the Crue.

Let's be honest, Axl Rose has single handedly ruined Guns N Roses. With anyone else at the healm, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven/Matt could've gone on to make multiple albums, and functioned like any other normal band, who release a record, tour it and then repeat the cycle.

It is because of Axl Rose and his obvious mental health issues that this never happened for Guns.

I'm only replying to the first 2 paragraphs of this topic from last year. The comment on mental health issues I'll only say that I don't know Axl but have loved someone diagnosed as bi polar since I was 16. With bi polar you get the very best and the absolute worst. Life can be challenging. But mental health issues aside.

Axl Rose made and saved GnR. First without the dynamic frontman, GnR would not have been what it was in the 80's or early 90's. In another world, had the original 5 stayed together and released a new album every year and toured each album giving interviews and meet and greets which seems to be what people expect. How alluring would the band really be? Would we wait for each new album with anticipation and race to the record store upon its release? Would there be such forums as this? Would the band continue to attract new fans?

The answer to each is no. GnR is as big as it ever was. For GnR I don't know how one can say Axl ruined it when looking at the success today. I mean, how much more fascinating can a lead singer be? Showing up 3 hrs late for shows? Ghosting himself for a decade (how does one as recognizable as Axl do that?!). All of these actions and not releasing 20 albums makes every move highly anticipated and people pay attention.

He didn't lose his drive I think he started questioning if he was doing it with the right people..not necessarily band members but managers, girlfriend, and yea the band being messed up like they were hurt his drive and led him to question if he was in the right situation.

I think Stephenie was the thing after Illusions released that sent him to a bad place for a while

I agree. From the earliest interviews, Axl talked about needing to have control. One can't have complete control over the future, but they can control who is a part of their future. I think Axl realized that. Also by the release of UYI it became evident that GnR was evolving away from AFD at least with the newer tracks on II and there was discourse among members on the new direction.

  14. all this talk because a transcripted interview where it was said Axl was working on his life and addictions. First, Axl didn't say that and everything in that transcript is speculation and 2nd the use of the word addictions in such a sentence can be anything. It's not necessarily drug or alcohol addiction. I've seen comments where it's been determined what drug, where he purchased and its impact. Rather than condemning with slander, he should be supported for trying to improve his life which has always been highly private with very little insight to the public. since the early '90's I've heard interviews with him talking about how he wants control of everything and being a perfectionist. Both of which are impossible to achieve. Such a life for anyone would be difficult. Why can't you accept that only Axl knows his personal battles and stop the damning speculation?
