What seems a shame to me is that the artists who did this stuff can't take their art beyond the very limited runs it received (the shirts/lithos at the gigs, where supply is less than demand). I don't know what financial arrangements went on though, and maybe the artists are very happy with the financial compensation they got from producing work simply for a very limited run. And I suppose a lot of the appeal of the lithos is wrapped up in their 'one night only' production.
I've said many times too that I would love some sort of coffee-table type book of all the art from the entire tour. That would be a fantastic thing to produce.
Financial stuff varies from merch company to merch company. I always get paid a submission fee and if it's approved then there's an approval fee on top. Now some merch companies throw in a number of artist proofs. Usually between 25-50. That's nice because that creates income on the back end (I don't know why that phrase made me laugh) for me since I'm free to sell them. Some merch companies, like the one that handles GNR don't give artist proofs. It's not ideal but it's ok since my submission/approval fees are much higher than other companies. They also still float a few posters my way. Sometimes it's one and sometimes it's maybe three. I always frame one for myself and put it up in my basement. It's a cool reminder of things I've done.

Yeah, I get that. I mean I assume none of us are totally innocent, but in this case it's a bit harsh when the artist is among us.
Plus, this isn't a billion dollar operation we're talking about, but one artist. It might be hypocrite to say one thing's less bad than the other, but it feels different to me at least.
When there are decent pics of shows they're always watermarked. I guess now I see why that's necessary. It's a shame someone shares their artwork as this is a thread with lots of dedicated litho fans and it's immediately 'stolen'. Who knows, maybe it's on eBay already sold by someone in Asia. I just feel if you're in this thread, you could at least ask the artist for permission to have a copy made.
That’s pretty much my sentiments too.

now, what’s been on my mind...with the artwork over the last three years, the huge surge in vinyl, and my hopes of new music, I dream of a world where we get an album with gatefold with some of the greatest album art of all time!
Amen. I miss real album art. I buy old records just to stare at the art.

I am in, can we get a count and go from there to determine price?
If someone wants to head this up I'd be down with that. Once I have an official headcount I can figure out pricing and payment arrangements.

I legally reproduced your art
You did? I must have missed the email where I gave you permission to print it. I'll check my inbox.

Im comfortable with my decision. There is literally no scenario in which this harms you at all, and there are plenty of scenarios where I’m correct. Save me the speech about IP. I’m certain you’re guilty of downloading music for free or some other scenario close to pirating, so get off your high horse. Unethical? Please. As if you live your life with some high minded sense of ethics. I don’t need to look right or correct on the internet, to you or anyone else. I live in a very small town in Oklahoma and your art and vision will be represented. If that’s some huge transgression to you then whatever. Get over yourself. And refund me for the atrocious Arlington design.
It’s funny you said earlier that you don’t care what people think but then you write this diatribe to defend yourself. Seems like the person who should get over themselves is you, my man.
if the Arlington poster was so atrocious then why did you buy it? Vote with your dollars. Thanks for the purchase, though.

Almost everyone on this forum has stolen music if that’s your definition. The last two months has been all about stolen music leaks. Listen, I mean no disrespect to you. I was told at Staples that it was legal to print a copy of one trademark image.
Whatever you gotta tell yourself in order to feel good.
Just because someone else does something unethical doesn’t mean you need to follow suit.
Look, there’s literally no scenario where you look right in this instance. You should just move on.

What it still have the dates and the 3 band members? Is it just the GNR name is deleted or would there be other modifications / deletions.
Silver lining here is people loved your work!
Could keep the dates. I’m honestly not 100% sure if I can/can’t use GNR’s name if I’m not using any of their licensed imagery but I’d rather err on the side of caution. Last thing I want is these getting into the secondary market and people trying to pass them off as official.

Facefirst how much for an AP of your Vegas litho - regular poster style print?
No idea. Would have to price it out. But just everyone is clear, this wouldn’t have any GNR mention on it.
also it would need to be a substantial amount of people preordering. Unfortunately if it’s just a couple people it wouldn’t be worth it to do.

iike the idea of a special run for the forum members, of enough of us buy, any way you could make that happen?
Sure. If people want to preorder I could make an art print for sure.

Bootlegging requires a person to turn a profit. It’s going in my home and nothing more. If that bothers people, so be it.
So it’s cool to steal music as long as you’re not selling it?

Is it normal for different artists to negotiate different agreements with Bravado/GNR regarding this matter?
I only ask because I have heard other artists from the tour describe this same agreement with Bravado but there's at least a couple other artists from the tour who have printed and even sold variants of their designs (complete with Guns N' Roses written on them) from their their own private site. The most notable being Sara Ray and her amazing colored/foil variants from San Diego 2016, which she sold from her Etsy page. I feel like it's a bit unfair for other artists to be allowed to do it but others aren't
I would imagine if Bravado or GNR knew about it they’d have something to say.

How about from the previous NITL legs? Would love to hear your thoughts on some of the highlights from '16-'18.
Kudos again on your "rejected" Vegas design. I keep going back and looking at it. Absolutely killer.
I like three LA ones from '17, Odense, Denmark from '18 and the Kobe, Japan one that I think is from '18.

It is killer. Mind boggling to see a great idea picked over for inferior product.
Is that possible? He said he was paid for his submission.
True, I was paid for my submission but unless it’s approved I retain all rights to the artwork. So while I could print a run of art prints they wouldn’t have any mention of GNR on them since I don’t own any rights to their name.

I had Staples print me up a 11X17 for framing. The Vegas ones were atrocious.
Not cool, man.

@facefirst had the sickest design for Vegas. Love the new Axl look, loved the color scheme, swirling background colors were amazing. Would kill to have that poster in my collection. And I haven't seen a design that made me really excited for quite a few legs of this tour. Can't believe it didn't get chosen.
@facefirst have you kept up with the other lithos from the tour? Do you have any favs besides your own lol.
Thanks so much for the kind words. I’m so happy to hear that people like my work.
Honestly, so far there’s not any posters on this tour that have blown my hair back. Maybe the second night in Vegas.

It looks great, but reminds me of some of the ones they used in California.
@facefirst were there any parameters or rules that you had to follow?
No. Just make it relate to the city.
9 hours ago, amaninjapan said:Oh sure, that definitely helps. But I guess... I don't know, I'm certainly no artist but I'd feel a little sad if artwork I did never got used. Doubly so if I was really proud of it, triply so if I genuinely thought what I came up with was better than what they went with haha.
I’m stoked on the art but it is what it is. That’s how the industry is. I know I created a cool piece so I’m cool with that.

I've always found Bravado's process of choosing artwork for the show to be kinda strange. I'd hate to spend hours on a design without knowing if it'll ever see the light of day! Maybe that's just the life of an artist?
It sucks but I get paid just for submitting designs. Otherwise I wouldn’t submit spec work hoping that it gets approved in order to get paid.

Maybe some of you would like to see a poster design that went unapproved. I figure it would be fun to see. This was supposed to be for the Vegas shows for tomorrow and Saturday. Since there hasn't been a request for the art for production I think it's safe to say that this is rejected. Such is the life of a designer!

Thanks for sharing!
A couple questions:
Was there anything in particular that inspired the theme?
Seems like a pretty deliberate decision to skip "Not in This Lifetime" and go with either "Fall Tour" or "Tour 2019" on this leg's merchandise. Did you receive any instruction regarding this?
The idea behind the design is that there’s SO MUCH beautiful outdoor space around SLC and mountain biking is really big there.
They are no longer going with the NITL branding so you shouldn't see it on any posters for this tour.

Its wonderful once you get out of the urban sprawl. The 15 corridor from mid state to almost idaho is awful. Especially compared to where I am from.
I once made the drive from Cleveland to Toledo and was pleasantly surprised how lush and green it was. I expected more urban sprawl and was blown away by the beauty outside the city.
Yeah, I grew up between Cleveland and Toledo On the lake and lived in both cities. The drive along the lake is pretty awesome.

100% coincidence. I didn’t use any reference material.

The couple aren't numbered. When I get a big number of them they're always numbered. Sometimes it's their own series or sometimes they're taken from the actual show stock. It all depends on the company I'm working with.
