You're talking about Silkworms from the Village discs, but there's a different version that leaked about a year earlier, and is the same as Absurd. The released version is the same as the mid-2000s version except Slash and Duff are pasted in, instead of Bumblefoot. I'll send you the Bumblefoot version if you haven't heard it...

Well, I stand corrected.  I hadn't heard that Bumblefoot version.  That certainly is very similar to the released version of Absurd.  Bummer.  I thought Slash/Duff reworked the classic Silkworms (Village, RIR, etc.) and made it their own.

Regardless, I still think there will be very little change to the released version of Perhaps.  Which to me, isn't bad since already like the song.  Actually, it might be worse since I like the original solo.  Just hope they can sort out the chorus so it doesn't sound like a mess.

What are you talking about? Absurd is almost identical to the 2006 version of the song (the leak with Bumblefoot). Slash and Duff didn't re-work it at all.

Different into, completely new guitars over verses, first verse lines rearranged, new bass line/fills, completely new chorus, completely new guitar licks on the chorus that changes the dynamic of the song.  Moving away from a synth driven song to a guitar driven song...

    That is completely reworked.

Perhaps will only be different due to the addition of a new solo and possibly a new guitar fill here or there.

  3. After listening to the full soundcheck, this will definitely be the first single out of the three that hasn't received much reworking.  I think the only difference between this version and the Village version will be a different solo and maybe some guitar fills here and there during the verses.  Aside from that, everything will pretty much be the same.  Here's just hoping the vocals on the chorus aren't a sloppy mess like on the demo.

Absurd/HS were heavily reworked, Perhaps won't be.  So, hopefully this means one day The General will be close to its original form (fingers crossed)?

Man comparing the rhythm guitar on Ritz vs Vegas...

No hate on Gilby, as he had to learn it all off the CDs in like 2 weeks -- I couldn't even hear half the shit Izzy does until the AFD 5.1 stems came out.

But listen to all the color Izzy adds to songs like WTTJ comparatively between the two shows. And he just plays with a loose confidence -- that of a guy who was in the writing room.

He even busts out a sneaky little wah pedal on estranged... IZZY BABY!!!

Where can i get these AFD 5.1 stems?

It's shit.... only thing that could have turned it from shit to an average passable song an not skip it would have been not taking out the line:

    So what can I do?

    With a bitch like you?

    Fact.

Agree.  That was the best part of the old Silkworms (actually the intro drums were killer, too).  With that said, I still like Absurd.

Also, did he record new vocals when shouting "absurd" in the chorus?  Or did he just cut the "absurd" part from the verse and paste that same exact vocal into the chorus?  I can't tell.

  6. I care a little, but not a ton.  I only come on this forum 1) out of habit and to waste time, and 2) for the off chance that something gets leaked.  Other than that, nope don't care.  I'm an adult with a life and a million other things going on.  The passion I had for this band is not what it was when I was 15-25.  Seems like that sentiment is the same for the band.

  7. Funny how when GNR first played the ChiDem songs live we all wondered "are these the big guns?! Where are the big guns!!??" Now, the favorite songs of the album are Chinese Democracy, The Blues, TWAT, Madagascar.  Not sure if that just speaks to the rest of the album....

Full disclosure, I love the album and like literally every song on it.

2 brilliant tracks. Both Guns at its absolute best IMHO. Voted “Estranged” for purely nostalgia reasons. The release of “YCBM” as part of T2 (video, single, etc.), and in advance of the Illusions was the unquestioned pinnacle of excitement I’ve ever felt (and likely ever will feel) as a rock music fan.

Yeah, and I'd say that release with T2 is what propelled GNR into the pinnacle of their popularity.  NOBODY could touch them for those 2 years.

  9. Mama Kin because I don't think it adds a unique take on the song or makes it better.  Plus, unless it's an excellent or iconic cover (KOHD), I won't rank it higher than originals.  Nice Boys is definitely the better cover on this one.

I know it's going to be unpoppular, but my vote goes to Patience. Great song, nothing aginst, but I have listened to it a million times, and I'm a bit tired of it

I certainly get it, and this isn't a dig at you, but a legit question: is the point of these survivor rounds to vote for the song that's the best, or just ones we're currently in the mood to listen to (i.e. just ones that we like at the moment).  Because, while I get that you may be tired of hearing it and therefore won't vote for it, it's CLEARLY the best song of the album.

In other words, voting for the best songs, or voting for our favorite?  I don't think best and favorite always go hand in hand.
