  1. I saw them twice live this year (Rome and MetLife) and he was just brilliant both times. His voice sounded really strong in the lower register but it's also where the melody in his voice truly lives. When he sings like that he's still a world class vocalist (look at Elton John for the same reasons). The screaming and high notes are both novelty and necessary. His high notes in Hollywood, Florida 2021 were incredible, as good as back in the day but that's clearly fading a bit. This is the best tour they've done since the reunion but two back-to-back shows of vocal issues points to him needing a break. Hoping for no cancellations but I can see them calling it a day for a while after this tour.

So I was just going to leave this be but that ain’t the real me so… for the record I (like another poster on this forum in radio) will not be doxing myself to prove a point on the internet.. but I, along with a few people here, are in fact music industry people. You can tell by how the information is disseminated, the verbiage used, etc.

Now a music biz lesson for those who care:

When you say “the place was packed” it was LITERALLY an illusion my man. MetLife was built with concerts specifically in mind outside of the nfl season and the modern stadium/arena build model is losely based on the checkerboard pattern using several shades of the greyscale.

What is checkerboard pattern? Imagine two rows of seats, back to back. Every 2nd or 3rd seat is a different shade of grey/black/white. When there are empty seats, your eyes don’t SEE the “empty seat” because of the intentionally created optical illusion.

Hence you “saw” that the place was “packed”. It was very much not. When you zoom in on the stadium shots, you can literally see the different color seats with no one in them.

Source? Did a huge music industry walkthrough at MetLife right before it opened where the architect discussed this as the “way forward for stadiums and arenas”

Since my approval on here I’ve tried dropping some Easter Egg hints about how to save money, ticket buying strategy and etc. I have never claimed to be an insider or whatever, even though I technically am music biz wise. I did post here BEFORE DOORS asking if anyone remembered if Andrew Dice Clay was on the bill before, because I was sent Set Times early and he was on it. I must have been clairvoyant or something to bring that name out of the bag right 🤣

There are some posters on here who simply refuse to hear what is painfully obvious to the remaining realists of this fan base: GNR just doesn’t sound good anymore. Good for ANYONE willing to spend money on this and enjoy it, but I refuse to pretend it is anything but nostalgic and mediocre.

Happy to answer any other general biz questions if anyone has any though! An educated consumer is the BEST consumer.

I was half hoping for a sensible reply vs. telling me the people I saw in seats were actually different shades of plastic. Fucking Hell.

Fair. The promoter provided thousands upon thousands of free tickets agencies, radio stations and orgs because sales were stupid low and the stadium would have been empty. People, when receiving free tix, only redeem them maybe 20/25% of the time. GNR fans can delude themselves however they want but in the US at least, gnr is playing to empty stadiums.

Where does this information come from exactly? If you have a verifiable source of information, fair enough but people seem to just type whatever they want on this forum and we're supposed to accept it as true because it's written in a way that sounds semi-credible.

Were you there last night? I was and the place was packed. I actually have photos and footage to show that.

What is the best way to get to the venue? Haven't been before.

And we thinking 7.30pm for GN'R onstage?

Where are you traveling from? If New York, you can take the train from Penn Station and change at Secaucus Junction. You basically just need to follow the GN'R t-shirts when making the change. There is a huge parking lot at MetLife too. I'm just Ubering with my wife/friends.

    You must be including post-2016...

I am but if you exclude 2016 onwards I think It's So Easy still is a clear front runner by a good margin. I looked into this once and I don't remember the exact math (I can go back and research if this becomes a debate topic) but I'm certain they opened almost every show on the UYI tour apart from like 20 (again not a confirmed figure) with It's So Easy.

  6. I thought GN’R were fabulous last night. Getting a good review at Glastonbury isn’t possible given the nature of British journalism/fandom. Getting slaughtered by the British public on Twitter is what it’s all about. It happens every, single year without fail. Doesn’t matter who you are. It’s what happens.

I thought Axl sounded excellent and the band were tight as hell. Best rock band ever.

Is it cool or does it get tiring/boring?

I mean of course, the place/venue, people/crowd adds to the experience. But I meant the band and the show itself, with almost same setlist. Not judging or mocking, in fact,  I am contemplating on watching 2-3 shows in Europe this July, but I am afraid I might find it boring the 2nd time around in such a short time. Or you guys still get lots of fun?

    THANKS!

In 2021 I saw them play 3 times between August and October in New Jersey, Chicago and Florida. Maybe it was the post Covid-19 excitement of getting to do normal things again but I thought they got better with every show. I was at night 1 of Florida in the Hard Rock and its probably the best show I've seen since Hammersmith 06 in London. Never necessarily got boring, to answer your question, but it was obvious the show had become a bit of a rinse-repeat thing vs. what they used to do.

  8. I saw him a few times in 2006 and he looked so cool. I probably also didn’t appreciate how amazing a singer he was then. Last time I saw him was October ‘21 in Florida and he was incredible but those shows in ‘06 featured things like IRS, Out Ta Get Me, My Michelle w/ Bach, Used To Love Her w/ Izzy. Loved it then but wish I’d appreciated how he looked and sounded more.
