  1. IMO, Frank is doing a solid job and we're being overly critical.

The most solid players who never miss a beat and keep perfect tempo are Duff and Richard. Slash can meander here and there with his rhythm, and I think Frank tries to keep in time with him all the time vs. Duff. That's what I heard a few times Friday night - Slash would go off a tad, and Frank would try to catch it.

Also keep in mind this is the first time Frank's played with this group in a live setting. Give him a few more shows to get into the groove and pick up on the little things. I do dig his straight fwd style, but if he's still flubbing in a month, I'll join the rest of you! haha.

  2. Yeah - or it's just the rep being polite, since it wasn't the band's fault.

No way Busch Stadium was going to risk having the place ripped apart in the middle of baseball season!

And I guess the Dome, since the Rams left, wasn't up for it either. Some here are also thinking Axl pranked the city, because we have the billboards up near the airport.

  3. For us old school fans, the idea of a reunion was such a far, far fantasy - so it's still pretty surreal. Until I see them all on stage on April 8, I'm still somewhat in disbelief.

If the "nu-gnr" era had produced more and released more music, things may have been very different. In 2002 and 2006, I was most excited for a "new" era and willing to move on from the original - but it never really came together. Because of that, this reunion is even more exciting.

IMO, Axl seemed tired near the end of the last two tours, and now he appears to be more energized. Hopefully this also re-energizes him to get busy writing with these guys again, and putting something else new and awesome into the music world.

Counting each day down 'til April 8....

Axl has already been back in Philly since the 2002 riot.  They played Camden (Which is 2 miles, across the bridge from Philadelphia) and they did a club show at the Electric Factory in Philly where Axl actually apologized to the crowd.

Wow - I've never seen that clip. Thanks for posting, and that does help clear up what the hell happened that night!

Haha... thats an awesome story. Wish I was there. I was actually at the show the very night before that in Pittsburgh, PA. Axl was SUPER fucking late to that too, but at least he showed up. CKY and MMM played for what seemed like for-fucking-ever then closed up shop and left, and we were left sitting there for like two goddamned hours with nothing to do, so they just started panning the camera around the stadium at people and a bunch of chicks started flashing their tits which was cool and calmed the place down n what not. Then the band came out after midnight, and played til well after 2. To this day, it was still by FAR the latest running concert I've ever been too. Tbh though, axl and friends did sound really good that night, I remember being quite impressed at how well they played. You guys think Buckethead will be in Vegas? What section you think his seats are in? LoL

Oh man, that's right - I remember the "live cam" at the Pitt arena was on, and us on the forum waited ... and waited for that gig to start. The Blues live performance from that show was in my playlist for a good decade, though! Pitt was a few dates before Philly - NYC was the one before the Philly gig. I remember there were also rumors he got mad in NYC the night before because a club wouldn't let him in, and then he wouldn't leave his room the next day and night.

  6. LOLing at the memories of CKY and MMM.

I was at the Philly 02 show, in the upper deck above the soundboard. MMM played for almost an hour. A little dude in a gnr branded toboggan told him to keep on going, keep going ...

After getting booed and shit thrown at him, we waited another hour. Then I see the soundboard guy get a phone call. He unplugs everything, covers the soundboard and runs away.

The place went bonkers when the announcement was made. We were wearing KFC buckets on our heads. A group around us starting chanting, "Throw your bucket!" - then it spread and spread. Before we got killed, we threw them down to the floor. The crowd, like rabid baboons, destroyed the buckets!

Then we heard the CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK of the riot police. They started shoving us out with their shields. I saw a guy on the floor getting chased by cops. He was corned. So he stopped, pulled his pants down, jiggled his balls, and the cops were frozen. Then he took off and got away again, lol.

In the parking lot, helicopters were circling above. Someone started a big fire. This guy selling fake tie dye shirts that had a braided Axl on them, he thought the show was over. He got punched, and the shirts thrown on the fire.

Also, before the gig, crew were pushing tickets for the next show in Wilkes-Barre, PA at a huge discount. Wonder if they knew something...

I had taken a week off work to see them in PA, DC and SC ... huge fail.

    Anyway, that's my story!

  7. Was definitely expecting more snark and misinformed commentary in the article.

"Listicles" are always meant to get people saying, "NO WAY! YOU'RE WRONG!" so I'll excuse some of the strange rankings, and appreciate that the writers actually gave each track a listen, along with some real backstory. Though Locomotive is the only one I think that gets TOO Much love. I love it, just not top 10 love it. haha.

G4 TV was also there for a bit, but the only footage was a 2-second cheers shot.

  9. I found a pretty good deal at the Luxor. Anyone ever stay there and how close is it to the venue?

Yep - got married there in '12!

It's a decent casino/hotel, a little dated, but not bad. Very easy to get in and out of, and a step away from the super hustle and bustle of the middle of the strip.

Probably a 15 min walk to the venue.

It's where I'll be staying Thursday-Saturday. Thursday night was $73, Friday and Saturday were $180-ish.

  10. Do u think planet Hollywood is a good spot to stay at? I couldn't tell how close it was walking wise by pulling up the addresses.

As long as you are a good walker, any of the casinos on the main strip are fine. I'm doing the Luxor, as it's affordable and pretty easy to get in and out of.

Planet is in the middle, so I'm sure it's no more than a 10-15 min walk. I'd say shop price and how much luxury you want vs. location on the strip.

Just remember if you stay downtown on Fremont, you'll need transportation to get up to the Strip - and probably a weapon by the bed to protect yourself.

  11. All we ever got from the Asbha era was an instrumental bootleg of "Ballad of Death" - again, sad that these guys probably came in thinking they'd make new music together. And it just became what it was.

But yeah, this guy was probably the fan bases' least favorite member. PersonalIy, I couldn't stand his "LET ME HEAR YOU!!!!" posture thing with every guitar lead-in.
