  1. Totally down for a meet up. The hammerstein meet ups were awesome, it will be nice to be with people equally as pumped to see these shows. I had a buddy that was going to come with me but I asked to come because he was already bitching about the price of the ticket for one night and if I'm somewhere and gnr playing there is no other place I need to be. So I said I'm going alone and to both nights... meet with up people that get how historic these shows will be!

What was the name of that restaurant? I went to the final night meet up. I think it was on a Wednesday.I remember walking in and saying proudly "I'm here for the MYGNR party" to the people working the door. It was upstairs and that's all I remember. Can't believe that was 10 years ago.

I think it was a HTGTH party at Mustang Sally's.

It was Mustang Sally's! But now you're making me question who I am. I would never go to a HTGTH party in 2016. I thought for sure it was a MyGNR get together.

    Nope - def HTGTH!

I thought it was Mustang Harry's ... hmm. I also remember the dude wearing the "Where's Mysteron?" shirt - haha.

Also up for Thursday night, too.

Probably need someone responsible who'll be there Thurs-Sun to head this up and put a poll up for the place(s) and make the phone calls.

    Not nominating myself!

  2. I went to this show. I was 19 years old and flew down from Canada. It was New Years Eve and the doors were scheduled to open at 1am. People were lining up along the walls inside the Mandalay Bay casino where the House of Blues is located for hours before that. Once we got inside everyone just stood around waiting until around 3:30am when the show started. There was a camera crew in front of the stage filming the crowd before the show. It was a small venue and the floor was really packed. I remember being really curious about hearing new songs and being surprised that they were playing all old stuff for the first half of the show. The Blues was the highlight out of the new songs for me but I thought they all sounded pretty good. I still like those performances and arrangements more than what ended up on CD. Show ended at around 5:30am and I remember walking out of the casino as the sun was sarting to rise. Probably my most memorable concert experience. I was running a GNR website at the time called the GNR MP3 Exchange, and later gnrlive.com, which were the first websites devoted to sharing live GNR mp3`s back in the 90`s. The guy who bootlegged the show got in touch and hooked me up with his recording of the Blues, which I put on the website and traffic went crazy. He released the full show a bit later on. RIR3 was a week later so hype for new Guns was at an all time high. That was the best time I can remember as a GNR fan.

To you and Matt - I remember those days pretty vividly, too. I used to run GnRForum dot com, which was another hot bed of constant action. Matt's right, every other band's forum was dwarfed by us GnR fans and the crazy shit and stories floating around. Fun fact: We used to run stories by Dizzy Reed's aunt in a private section of the forum, to confirm certain rumors. haha. People didn't really post songs in the forums yet, as you'd get most of them on Napster. I also was the source of the "phat boy" story, where Axl brought a CD of new tracks to a bar in LA late one night and invited people out to his car to listen. Blues, Riad and Madagascar. True story.

As for video, I think I remember seeing a few shots of this show in an MTV report way back then. Might be wrong, but I have an image in my head

Janabis - jealous you got to go to this. I was in the same boat where I just didn't have the funds and was just starting out in my low-paying career. This gig was annc'd last minute, if I recall, too.

Crazy to think so much has changed since then. Shit, I remember downloading my first digital GnR bootleg from Mrice's gnrunlimited dot com, sp1at dot com with "pepper" and trading cassette tapes with people.

This band had us fans and the music world so curious back then. Axl sort of had a window there of a free pass to try something new and get a fair shake. Like Matt said, I'd think you were crazy in '01 to say it'd be '08 w/ a bunch of a new players before this thing came out.

Thanks for posting this though, brings back some pretty cool memories, and that same feeling of excitement I think everyone who's a long-timer is feeling again right now. :headbang:

Very cool! I totally remember that story about Axl bringing the CD to a bar. From what I remember, it was a strip club or something and he had the DJ play it over the house system after hours. Could be a different incident but definitely brings back memories. I remember your forum too! And the GNR unlimited site.

Crazy times. The download times back then killed me! Speaking of downloading... it pissed Axl off so much he even called all of us 'download mother fuckers' at shows. And he clearly followed the forums back then. Xozi's claim to fame was Axl calling her out at a concert! Talking about ass hole forum people spreading false rumors and thinking they know stuff when they know nothing at all. It was GLORIOUS for me... since I always trashed Xozi every chance I got. We eventually became friends when it became clear GNR wasn't amounting to much by 2002 or so. That's around when the old CD.com went offline briefly before being brought back by new people who still run it today I presume. That was the same time this forum started... it kind of took the place of the old CD.com. A lot of it's members came here. Xozi started a forum in South America somewhere... Brazil was it? Her home country. Wonder if she's still running it! I have no idea what the link is anymore.

And I wonder if Queenie is still there making haste.

Yeah, the strip club story was different and had a few more sources. I think that one was he gave the DJ the disc and the DJ secretly made a copy while playing it. The one I found out about was a pretty small one, which was just a few people gathered around his car in the parking lot. Crazy!

Also remember arguments about this one song called "Prostitute" that was supposed to be the BIG GUN! Then people were a little disappointed we only heard 3/4 new tracks at the HOB show.

  4. Finally got it to work after doing the "waiting room" thing - had 3 windows open, trying to get tix. Very frustrating.

But hell, going to the Friday show. Up in section 210 Row D. $184 per, not bad.

did you buy the accessible seating tickets, I am pretty sure $250 was the cheapest tickets offered in the regular seat pre-sale

Looked at the receipt - doesn't say anything about that.

I did click the AXS premium button to buy - which is what finally worked. Looks like I must've bought them at fair market value or something?

Weird...didn't realize it was that until now, as I had multiple windows open and trying different ways.

  5. Oh My God is so terrible how do ppl like that?

that shit is just abucha noise and so far removed from what Guns N' Roses is

    I'll repeat: I like what I'm hearing, I don't care what anybody says! :P

I admit this song is not my favourite, the lyrics are not that great, although in my deprived state I've learned to like it somewhat. The lyrics have been changed though, if I remember correctly Axl saying so.

Sounds like whoever put this together used the vocals from RIR 01 and processed'em to sound like a studio recording.

  6. the 2001/2002 incarnation was one of the best songs axl ever wrote.

the retooled version we heard on the album and in subsequent live shows is underwhelming in comparison. by slowing the tempo and removing the electric guitar riff in the chorus it really neutered the spirit of the song. and the production on the studio track is a bit cringey.

Gotta agree - feels like he/they overthought it and produced some of the magic out of it.

  7. Tommy is a man who speaks his mind when asked. In the last interview he gave, he sounded very at peace with his place in Guns N' Roses history and the idea of the band continuing on with Duff. If Tommy felt any anger or resentment over how his tenure with the band ended, he would have said something. As others have pointed out, it's not like he got a raw deal in any respect. As Brain mentioned in that interview a while back, members of the band got payed even during long stretches of inactivity; like 2003-2005. In many ways, I would not be surprised if the whole situation of Duff filling in for Tommy while he played with The Replacements was orchestrated to start his exit from GN'R.

For what it's worth, a good friend of mine worked at The Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta in 2014 when The Replacements played. He said Tommy was in VERY bad shape with his drinking problem. Long story short, I think he might have stepped down from the band to get his health and personal life in order.

Hope this ain't true. Always had great admiration for the man, I'd feel sorry for him if he's got drinking problems.

I met him backstage during the '11 tour - he looked like he was in real bad shape. Couldn't tell on stage, but afterward ...

  8. If you go on the website www.google.com type in " reunion".

The 1st few stories are about a Gn'R reunion. Any thoughts on if Google is backing this reunion? Anyone heard anything? This could be huge if they are.

Google bases results on popular search items, in real-time.

All that means is that when the word "reunion" is used in a search right now, "Guns n' Roses" is a popular word that goes w/ that word, and it's in a lot of recent articles on SEO-driven sites, which boosts the SEO factor of "Guns N' Roses Reunion"

  9. Excellent Job!!!

one mistake...after NY in 2002, you stated the show to phily was cancelled because his plane had issues coming from LA. He never left NY for all intents and purposes...

Yep - exactly. I was at that Philly show. The band was there, apparently. The many theories I remember were this:

    * Axl wouldn't leave his hotel room because of an NBA game.

    * Axl had a cold/flu, wanted to postpone. Told the promoters in the morning. They forced the show anyway. He said fine, i'm not showing up.

    * Axl had a "FREAKOUT" in the hotel room. This was on the cover of SPIN. I think the headline was "AXL'S FINAL FREAKOUT!!!!"

I tend to go toward #2. At the venue at 11:30 they announced, "Due to a health issue, tonight's show is cancelled."

Also - Mix Master Mike played for like an hour, so that the riot police could get there and start forcing us out. Something fishy was up.

Also saw the sound guy after MMM get a phone call, cover his soundboard and BOLT the f outta there.

    MEMORIES.

That's horrid bro. I wonder what was the real reason. We'll probably never know. Could have been anything.

Definitely. It was also the beginning of a new dark era until 2006.

What was also interesting I forgot to mention is that after that show, Robin Finck posted a strange photo on his blog with all these hidden messages in it. It had an upside down Crown and the word "AXL" in it. Then after a day, he took it down.

Not a word, not an explanation ever of what happened.

We had KFC buckets on our heads, and the crowd began chanting at us to "Throw Your Bucket!!!!" We threw them down below and the people on the floor ripped them apart like rabid wolves.

One more memory, when we were pushed out of the venue, the bootleg T-shirt guys thought the show was over and they were hocking their gear. A guy ran up and punched a guy holding a bunch of tiedye shirts w/ a braided Axl on it. He then threw the shirts on a big fire someone started. Copters were circling the area ... good times!
