  1. I know this is a little late, but here's my personal review/experience of the show last weekend:

Great review you wrote of it. Curious about that mother and daughter backstage...think I met have met them while I was waiting for GA, and I saw them afterwards in the section sitting for the backstage trip. What'd they look like?

    Thanks man :-)

They were maybe from South America or Latino - the mother had black hair, tattoos. The daughter seemed real sweet, maybe 13. They were very emotional - felt like an asshole for chuckling at the scene!

  2. I find it pretty hilarious that mainstream media and local reviews of this tour are trying so very, very hard to find things to make fun of or put down.

Here is a compilation of the re-dick things I've seen "journalists" use to fuel their "negative" feedback:

    * Show is 3 hours - it's just too much rock and I'm tired!

    * Too many new songs! In other words, "I've never listened to Chinese - play the songs I know from 1987 please!?"

    * Axl runs off stage too many times.

    * Axl switches hats and shirts too much.

    * They do a couple cover songs!

    * The arena is not completely sold out!

    * They went on an hour after the opener! Why not 45 min?!

    * The guitarists are almost too skilled.

    * Axl is the only original member! (zzzzzz)

    * The album took so long to come out!

And people wonder why Axl never speaks to the US press...

  3. Fantastic gig last night. The band is tighter than ever, Axl is singing better than ever. They started on time. They were interactive w/ the crowd. They played more passionately than I've ever seen.

I think after 10 years, he's finally got this ship right! peace

Got to hang backstage for a bit and met a few of the guys. More than their great performance, Ron and DJ are the coolest, friendliest guys who show true appreciation to the fans. Glad they're finally a part of the GnR crew.

  4. I think the digital download idea is great as well. Either new material or a pro-audio recording of that show would attract some new fans and excitement.

I just wish GnR was more innovative about getting their music into people's hands. Most people still don't know the songs on Chinese and only know what Yahoo news tells them.

That's some interesting info from MSL as well - about the sku. With digital being the preferred way of the masses, I'm curious to see if it does get re-printed now.

  5. Best Buy has yanked all of their copies of Chinese Democracy. So where the hell do people who go see the band on the US tour go to buy the album, besides iTunes?

Made me think of this idea:

The band should hand out the record to each concert-goer as they enter or leave the arena. One w/ the correct artwork, etc. Maybe even an elusive bonus track.

Prince did this back in 2005 with Musicology.

Or else, put the album back in stores for christ-sake!

  6. Sad day indeed.

I've been a heavy lurker on this site since it began in '01 and truly appreciate all you guys have done to run the site.

When we had to close gnrforum dot com, we only had a fraction of the amount of members this site has.

MyGnrForum has been by far the best forum in every way for us fans.

Hopefully some day things pick up again and this community of fans can have fun again.

    All the best.

  7. I do remember MYGNR started the idea of meeting at Mustang Harrys, and then word got over to the HTGTH website, and they ended up coming over there too. I wish someone had pics from that.

This is embarrassing, but here's the G4 segment I was on, which includes a few seconds of footage from Mustang Harry's.

For the record - I didn't want to "sound" like Axl - the deal was I was just supposed to be a mega-fan w/ a shrine at my house.

Then they changed it up on me last minute, to satisfy some deal w/ that Zen of Screaming woman.

And finally, they decided to have me interact and sing w/ any woman in line for six blocks.

Just rolled w/ the punches :-)

please tell me they payed you

Ha - they did. Only took 12 months and then threatening to take them to Judge Judy to get my check for a few hundred bucks.

  9. If it's hacked, Twitter is slow about fixing things. Could take a couple days.

They're not like Google or Yahoo - they don't have "offices" of people standing by to help.

It's still just a few people running it, keeping it up and hoping to sell it and run to the bank!

  10. Maybe Axl forgot the password? <_<

And as for explaining the MLB thing, yeah, maybe they own the "server" is a better way to put it.

I found out about that from a book written by the Deadspin creator - and how the MLB has made some knee-jerk, overreactions the past couple decades.

Like buying wayyyy too much server/web space before they knew what they were doing!

  11. MLB doesn't own the site.

They own the bandwith and space.

Back in the day, MLB bought up a ton of web space in preparation to be the first sport to broadcast all of its games online.

Then time moved on, they didn't get the project done and so they eventually rented/sold off the space. That's why MLB is listed as the owner.
