  1. The question is how many years in a row have we had some sort of September release date? Then, July will roll around, there will be no activity, and everyone will start saying, "sometime in the fall," then "sometime around Christmas or early spring," and the cycle continues. Unreal.

  2. This is one of my top 5 all-time Guns songs, but the new band just doesn't do the song much justice, especially Axl. His vocals, even this year, are pretty weak and whiny for the most part. Plus, I just don't think the rest of the band sounds as raw as the old Guns made it sound. Back in the day, this was one of the most intense, hard-rocking songs. Nowadays, I rarely listen/watch this song when listening to shows. I think Axl should start using the rasp more (like in Download Festival), and the rest of the band could fix it up a bit.

  3. "Immigrants and hooray for tolerance!s, they make no sence to me. they come to out country and think they'll do as they please. Like start some mini iran, or spread some fuckin disease"

Why? Do you agree with it? It's not even a well-written lyric.

Those lyrics, when taken literally, are nothing shy of racist and homophobic. But I really think Axl was writing that song in the point of view of a "small town white boy." Actually, I think the whole song was supposed to be written from that point of view (not necessarily of Axl himself, at least at the time he wrote the song), so I don't have a problem with him using that language as long as he is not speaking from his own heart and/or promoting prejudice. That song is pure lyrical genius; it can certainly be offensive if taken the wrong way, but I think it's just another example of Axl pushing the envelope.

  4. Off the top of my head, I just love: "I see you standin' there, you think you're so cool, why don't you just, FUCK OFF!" That's just a classic line from a Guns classic. If I wanted to get more deep or whatever, I would probably go with: "So nobody ever told you baby how it was gonna be, So what'll happen to you baby, guess we'll have to wait and see."

  5. I agree for the most part, except for the fact that Merck was purposely doing all of these things just to fill his own pockets. I mean, yeah, they're all in it for the money, but I don't think the leaks, etc., were all just a ploy to piss Axl off and get as much money for him as possible. What I do think is that Merck was not nearly desperate enough to get the album out and wanted to tour w/o an album while convincing Axl that the album was coming, while all along trying to slowly push a release date further and further back. Axl obviously had enough of this and smartly gave him the axe. Other than this, though, your opinion was a good read.

  6. I personally don't know anyone who actually likes Axl Rose as a person; most people think he's a great performer and singer, but not a person. Even though I think he's one of the great performers of all time, I think he is a selfish, immature, self-absorbed pain in the ass that would get nowhere in life if he wasn't a rock star. Again, I love the guy and I think a lot of the things I just mentioned actually help him be such a great rock star, but he's just not that good a guy. Hope this doesn't offend anyone, but his recklessness is not hard to see, and that's why most people don't like him.

  7. I wondered the same thing, especially on some of the 1993 bootlegs. I used to have a bootleg (I think Milton Keynes 1993) where Axl was singing near the end of YCBM and screamed "fuck you" at some fan. But while he was saying this, you could clearly hear HIM singing in the background as well (it was during the chorus). It definitely sounded like him, not Izzy (who was back for this show) or anyone else. So I wouldn't be shocked if he used some backing tapes at least during the choruses at some point, but nowadays he definitely DOES NOT use them. I was at a show two weeks ago, and he completely fucked up Chinese Democracy, and there was nothing that saved him except himself after a few seconds. He has also made many other mistakes during songs in other shows recently, and it's clearly him singing live.

  8. I wouldn't consider Josh Freese a member of Gnr. Sure he worked on some tracks and was the drummer on one song, Oh My God, but he never even played a single show with them. Therefore, I don't even consider him a "member" of Guns N' Roses, just a fill-in while Axl was sorting things out.

  9. I'm not a huge fan of Brain; Frank Ferrer, on the other hand, really impressed me at last week's show that I went to. His style reminded me a lot more of Matt Sorum (who I really like as a drummer). Plus, he played most of the old songs the right way, as opposed to Brain changing parts for the worse, imho. I'd like to see the new guy stay on as the full-time drummer.

  10. The people streaming out of there had nothing to do with the quality of the show, in my opinion. I myself, at my first Guns concert, was getting sleepy during the middle-to-late portion of the show, even though it kicked ass. It's just because he gets on so late (although 11:30 wasn't that bad) and also because the sound really was not that loud, especially compared to some of the other shows I've been to recently. People get a little bored during the new songs and the solos, even though both are really good. The show was rock solid last night, Axl was in a good mood, and the band tore it up. But people in my section were dead most of the show; it's as if nothing could wake them up. As for the venue being half-full, I think that's incorrect. The floor was about half full and probably 75 percent of the upper deck was curtained off, but the seats were jam-packed for the most part.

  11. "The cold hard truth about Chinese Democracy... outside of these fan boards, nobody really gives a shit. If it comes out, great. But most of the world quit caring a long time ago."

Perfect quote right there. Yes, I am going to see them in just over a week and I cannot wait. But I am going with a friend who had no idea that Slash was even out of the band; the point is, nobody really gives a flying fuck about Axl anymore. They were big fifteen years ago, and the only connection they have to the modern world is their old music and a few shows every couple of years to keep the die-hards alive. All this secretive bullshit is a complete joke; if people were waiting for the next Beatles release, maybe it would be a different story. But this is Gn'r 15 years after their prime, and people are simply not waiting. They aren't even paying attention anymore. The only way to get even close to the mainstream is to release the album during this tour that most people do not know about and promote the hell out of it. Let the promotion and the music do the talking, not some ridiculous, childish, "mystical genious" bullshit. Enough is enough. I love this band and will buy the album no matter what, but this double talking and mystery from this band is a joke. Good night.

  12. Yeah, any Red Sox fan who criticizes the Yankees for spending a lot of money and having no team chemistry should take a look in the mirror. The Sox, even though their payroll isn't quite as high, are still at number two and were an embarrassment to the sport of baseball last year with their collapse in the final few months of the year. That being said, this guy is also too negative of the new Guns, although there are some valid points that people have been repeating for some time and Axl should respond to, since we as fans are paying the tickets to the show. All I know is that I won't be paying any attention to the Yanks or Sox in two weeks when I'm at the show.

  13. I have seen Motley Crue twice in the last year and a half (the first show I attended was likely the show that you guys recently saw on TV, as that was the show they released on DVD). They put on a truly kickass show, and with the exception of the sound problems in the second show, they were outstanding. I was truly blown away after seeing them the first time, even though I didn't know a lot of the obscure songs they wound up playing. As for Guns, I will be seeing them in less than two weeks, so I can make a comparison then. Both bands rock, and I assume both band's shows will be nothing less than brilliant.

  14. The vocals sound identical to the leak, but I'm not saying that's a bad thing. The guitars are definitely clearer, especially near the end. Personally, I think the "Demo" we received is actually the studio version, at least what was a studio version at some point in time. They may have changed a few things with the guitars and cleared it up a bit, but it sounds very similar. Great song.

  15. Check Gnrontour.com, sometime during the 1987 tour with Motley Crue, Axl did something like hit a cop/security guard and was thrown in jail. Then I think Guns left, and he was under the impression that if he returned, he would be a sitting duck for the police. I may be off on some of the details, but the fact that they have not played there since then makes you wonder.

    Here's the writeup actually:

11.22.87 - The Omni, Atlanta, GA

    opening for: Mötley Crüe

set: Communication Breakdown, Honky Tonk Women, Blues Jam

    audio/video recording?: no

notes: The second show in Atlanta, a few days after the first. At this show, Axl jumps into the crowd to grab a security guard who shoved Axl's friend. The police held Axl backstage while the rest of the band played 'Communication Breakdown,' 'Honky Tonk Women' and a 'Blues Jam,' all with roadie Ronnie Schneider singing.

    This is straight from gnrontour.com.

  16. Have you ever seen Velvet Revolver live? They put on a phenomenal show both times I saw them, so I wouldn't make that statement. Slash is outstanding, maybe not as good as he once was, but still better than most out there and VR rock live.

  17. Yup I do, and to Kevin, I hate to admit it, but you're probably right. I was almost sick to my stomach after that Notre Dame game, and even though I love my Spartans, they just don't have what it takes to win the big games. That loss was devastating.

  18. Come to the Breslin Center in East Lansing! I could walk there!! Seriously, a Grand Rapids show would not be a bad idea (at Van Andel); I saw the Crue there last year and the show was not only phenomenal, but they filmed the show for their double-disc DVD. If they do only one MI show, it will probably be at the Palace, but I'll take anywhere in the area.
