  1. There's no way they would skip us; when I saw VR last year (a much lesser known name), the Palace was almost sold out (with the exception of the curtained-off upper tier). Detroit is a great market for rock n' roll, so I'm sure something will pop up real soon. It would rock if it was over Thanksgiving break as well.

  2. I really have no complaints about the soundboard quality shows that are out there from the Illusion tour. Sure, both Rio shows are sloppy, his voice is rough during the Tokyo shows, and the Chile show lacks great effort and enthusiasm from Axl, but there are many really good ones. The St. Louis show was phenomenal before the riot, the Indiana show was solid (although Axl's voice declines considerably), the Oklahama and Chicago shows (especially the latter) are ace, the Paris show is outstanding, and I love the 1992 Argentina show. The last show is cool because it's the last show. Overall, I think we have plenty of soundboard/pro-shot stuff from that tour to give people a real feel for how great the tour was.

  3. Hoobastank also was part of the festival(s) that Guns played in Japan in 2002. Not sure if they were actually considered an opening band, but we already knew they have been playing with both VR and Guns. Still kinda odd though.

  4. Great song by Robin. Not necessarily the most difficult to play, but it has a very catchy intro and chorus and solid vocals during the verse. I have given Robin a hard time in the past but he did a great job on this song.

  5. I like how Axl actually interrupted to say "It is this year." It's not like the guy asked him "When will CD be out" and he said "this year" or "Is it gonna be out this year" and he said "yes." He interjected and said "It IS this year" (with the IS being louder) and I think this is confirmation from Axl himself that it will be out. Many people, even myself, have always said that I won't believe it until Axl says it himself. Right there, even though there is no specific date, he himself confirmed it for this year, which means by January 1st, 2007, we will have CD in our hands.

  6. Axl messes up A LOT (especially in the old days) WITH the teleprompters, so imagine how bad it would get without them. As long as it keeps the lyrics somewhat close to what they really are, I have no problem with them.

  7. The album will be out this year, period. I know Axl has said many contradicting things over the years, but he has now twice in interviews said this year rather adamantly, and given that we are entering the last four months of the year, I believe it's even more significant now, especially considering that there is a confirmed tour starting in the near future. The album really has to come out sometime, and I strongly believe this is in fact the real deal for this fall. Get ready folks.

  8. To say "Axl is GNR" is flat-out ridiculous in my opinion. Even if you hate Slash and the old members, at least give some credit to the new guys, or the guys like Tommy, Chris, and Brain who have been members for well over half a decade. Is Axl a HUGE portion of Gnr and, without him, would it not sound like Guns? Absolutely. He is vital to the band and without him it would be hard to have Guns N' Roses (see Velvet Revolver, who sound nothing like Gnr). But to say he is Gnr is wrong and disrespectful to both the old members and the new members.

  9. Kevin, you're probably referring to Q106 in Lansing which still does exactly what you said about cutting out the solos. The version they consistently play is no more than 60 percent of the real original song, it sucks. Btw, I go to MSU but got into U of M, so your sig. doesn't apply to all people :) .

  10. As a Guns fan, I'm used to trying to overthink things and read too much into simple events like this. But it seems like Axl would have to have a motive to do something like this; perhaps it could be to promote the upcoming tour that has already been confirmed. However, maybe he will use this to promote the CD release and even possible, ahem, announce the date or play to close the show again, although that is still unlikely. Hopefully this means something here.

  11. This is a well thought-out post...

I agree with some of the points, especially that the new band sounds fuller because of the eight players as opposed to five or six. I still like the old band better, becuase the attitude and chemistry was something that will never be matched, even though the new band has certainly improved in that aspect. Axl's voice, for the most part, was better then, although there were times when it suffered. Nowadays, he sounds really good on some songs but still has that helium thing going on other songs. Also, the new band's guitar solos for the old songs don't sound quite as good, but that's because Slash is a guitar god. Overall, they are two different bands (with the same name, though) that are very different yet very similar. Both bands are at least great live, but I would still take the old band, even though the new band is doing really well in the live shows now.

  12. I can't understand why the person who posted this (no disrespect or anything though) even brought this topic up. Who really cares anyway? For all intents and purposes, Guns N' Roses broke up in the mid 1990s. If you want to get technical and say how they all left at separate times, that's fine, but GENERALLY SPEAKING, the band broke up. Then, sometime in the late 1990s and early part of this decade, they created a new lineup which is also Guns N' Roses. I'm sure this article was not poking fun at the new band or somehow delegitimizing them, but simply saying a general statement that is mostly true.

  13. I would also love to see a reunion, but since it isn't happening anytime in the near future, I support the guys in the band now. As for your questions about Izzy, yes he has been appearing fairly regularly for the European shows and usually playing the old Guns classics near the end of the show.

  14. Good statement by the band. They are finally showing that they do indeed care about their fans. I loved reading the statement and seeing the part about Izzy supporting the decision; for a second, I felt like I was reading a statement from the early Gnr days and one of their shows then. Oh well, I love the past, but the future is also pretty good with this band, especially if Izzy shows up :) .

  15. I personally believe album sales will be very similar to the trend with Velvet Revolver. They will probably debut at number one on the charts and then slip pretty drastically from there, even if the album is outstanding. Guns N' Roses are still a big name here in States, but even other older legendary bands like The Rolling Stones don't sell that many albums for more than a few weeks. VR has sold about 2 millions copies of Contraband, give or take, and that is based on the hype of Gnr+STP and their strong first single. If Guns comes out with a strong single to lead things off, is currently on tour, and promotes the album well, it will DEFINITELY do better than Contraband when all is said and done, but I don't see it being a top Ten album for very long. I can't predict total album sales though. Overall, the album will sell well and start out on fire, but I don't see it anywhere near Appetite or even the Illusion albums. This post is not supposed to be negative; the point is that regardless of how good an album is, without a ton of mainstream popularity (like Britney Spears or something) it won't sell all that well.

  16. Grand Rapids please!!! All the good acts always go to detroit grrrr :anger: But this is great--a U.S. tour!! I can't wait!

Hell yeah, West Michigan would be great. I saw the Crue at Van Andel where they shot their DVD, and it was a phenomenal show. Detroit wouldn't be bad either, only a two-hour drive.

  17. Some people drink because they're depressed. Others, like myself, drink socially to have a good time. Okay, so maybe getting totally wasted isn't a good thing, especially on a regular basis, as that would indicate there may be a problem. But to have Axl, while on tour with old friends and bandmates, living the good life that he's worked so hard to achieve is not a big deal in my opinion. It seems like he's enjoying himself and as long as he doesn't get completely out of control, I have no problem with it.

  18. Even though I like Baz, I have to disagree with him on this. I think Axl has definitely had some work done over the years, even going back to the old Guns days. I think Botox is probably the most common thing he's had done, and I don't think it's a big deal if he has b/c many rock stars and celebrities use that. As for Nugent, he can certainly be arrogant and pompous at times, but he's not as crazy as some make him out to be. I watched an hour long interview with him on the Big Idea with Donny Deutsch and he's not as much of a crazy, gun-freak as some make him out to be. He just lives his life like he lives in the wild much of the time, which is certainly odd, but doesn't make him a bad person. That's just my opinion though and we are all entitled to our opinions on him, Axl, and Baz.

  19. What would NOT be funny is if he assaulted a woman without any provocation, because imo assaulting a woman is one of the lowest things you can do. What would NOT be funny is if he got into bigger trouble than he is and the tour got cancelled. That being said, Axl got off mostly free and easy and the tour can continue, and that woman (from what I've heard) came after him first. He got some publicity out of the deal and life goes on. A rock star needs to live on the edge at times. How do you think Gnr got so big in their heyday? Look, I see what you're saying and he came pretty close to crossing the edge and fucking things up. I don't want this type of stuff to be everyday behavior, but to hear Axl kick ass once in a while is not a bad thing.

  20. This will not happen, because a.) as far as I know, if he leaves Sweden and doesn't return, he will not be forced to return for a trial, and b.) he's a celebrity and will pay his way out of it. I could certainly be wrong about the first point, because I don't know the exact laws in Sweden, but this seems unlikely imo.

  21. They basically made a joke out of it....obviously, neither Alan or the fill-in for Hannity had many good things to say, but even though I find this situation sorta funny, there's no reason for them to say anything good about him after the last decade and after last night. Good to see more Axl coverage on TV.
