  1. anyone notice how loud they had gilbys guitar in the mix in Chicago? He actually sounds pretty fuckin good and it def beefs up and strengthens the overal sound of the band. I always hated when they would just blare slashs guitar and axls vocals over everything else

And which show is duff apparently making a fool outta himself on the bass? I really didn't seem to notice any major fuck ups while watching them

  2. One person is forgotten in all this drama. Spare a thought for this person,

    Dj-Slashba-Tattoo.jpg

They deserve it for making such a ridiculous decision.

What's ridiculous about that? It's a classy piece of art celebrating the legacy of one of the great rock bands. Stop being a jealous bitch.

No ones jealous of that awful decision. Dude means nothing to guns n roses except for as a touring guitarist and who teh fuck gets tattoos like that anymore. Poor decision all around

  3. Man I picked GNR just Cuz I'm a much bigger fan of them then motley Crüe, which I've never liked. But man both singers live are just horrible. Vince sounds like a high pitched dying scream and what's worst is he can't even sing the words really anymore, he's just focused on the melody. But that's the actual motley Crüe, not a band of hacks and bad impersonators who had no say whatsoever in any part of the songs creation. And while Axl does sound slightly better than Vince, it's still not good at all compared to 06-10

  4. Well since GNR were not Heavy Metal, it didn't make sense for them to be in this movie.

Most of the movie was guys who were in bands in the 80's who never made it. Chris Holmes drinking in a pool and being so fucked up as his mother watched was just plain sad.

Yeah they were considered heavy metal, hell there was a category of metal called hair metal back in the eighties. Gnr might not seem like metal nowadays when modern metal is typically defined by growling instead of singing ala slipknot and guitar work thatd make Metallica plug their ears, but back then they were heavy metal. Hell they even won an award or two for heavy metal stuff.

    1. Hair Metal is still a living genre... Look for bands in Sweden, Norwegia, there's a renaissance of this genre there....

    2. GNR's only metal elements came in AFD, after that only YCBM is the song that contains some actual metal. Axl's vocals made them sound like a metal band, imho

    3. Modern metal typically is more melodic, with some harsh growling, but most of the verses/choruses contains clean singing (that is why most of the modern metal bands sucks ass and the whole metalcore movement is a joke)

    4. Slipknot also contains melodic vocals, that is why they were called NUMetal back then (and even now) Their most hardcore metal album (Iowa) is pure hardcore music with very harsh growling, but all of the other albums contain melodic parts (hell, even now that much, that they were become almost metalcore pussies, lol)

    5. Metallica hasn't released a "true" metal album since AJFA. they are become more commerce since 1991, and Death Magnetic was an actual attempt to get back to their metal days. Btw metal guitar work is far more technical of what Metallica can capable of since AJFA... their true trash metal period ended there

Btw Metallica almost won a Grammy in 1988, but Jethro Tull (lol) wins instead of them

Spent way too much effort on that post there a lil bit dude lol. While I agree with most of it, it was almost all subjective and didn't really have anything to do with what I was saying about GNR just being considered metal back in the day.

  6. Sign me up!!! I'm always down to "party hardy" and get a little "locomotive". You tell me where the party is and I will move to the city! I already live right next door to hell (Manhattan) so the drive in for me is... well... ITS SO EASY!!!! I'd love to get down with MYGNR peeps and I'm constantly around in the area all summer. If this ends up becoming one of those "things" keep me on the guest list and I'll bring ya booze, I'll bring ya girls, and most importantly I'll bring ya my emotional dedication to the band we all know and love. Hell, I'll dress up as Slash if ya get me good and drunk enough!!!! I think this sounds like a hell of an idea that I'd love to see come to fruition.

    .....step.....away.....from.....the.....crack pipe

  7. I can't tell which posts are sarcastic and which ones are serious any more lol. But seriously there's no way CD has sold less than 10 million easy how could it not when The dollar store near where I live was built about three years ago and it's got a big ol box filled with those best buy exclusive deal CDs lol it's so depressing. That album stunk worse than the room emptying dog farts from my 10 year old german shepherd with stomach problems.

  8. Man back in 2004 I had lime wire and was one downloading mother fucker. Only album I bought was contraband. N someone just said their favorite GNR album is CD along with uyi 1? Pshhhhh hahaha CDs terrible and I tried honestly to like it. The leaks are far better than the album that came of it

Chinese isn't terrible, catcher, scraped and riad are terrible but Better, there was a time, SOD, TIL are as good as the illusions stuff , it's not a shit album at all unless you've the 'there's no slash' disease

Many people suffer from that disease. It clouds the mind.

Also I'm floored people think Contraband is better than CD. Whether you're into what did or not he took way more artistics risks and really tried to get something new. He succeeded in a lot of ways too.

Contraband, while cool-sounding, is straight-on street rock, the kind we've heard a hundred times over.

Straight on street rock? You mean like what made guns famous in the first place? Lol and no I can appreciate music even with no slash, no diseased taste here. I'll admit better and there was a time are good, I learned to play both on guitar before they even came out on the album just from the leaks. But seriously the rest of that album? Rhiad? scraped? Just crap.

Then I definitely commend you. Also my "Clouded mind" comment was meant to be more general, not just you.

But as for the street rock, yes, it's the kind of rock that made them famous in the first place, but that was also when they were 19 and really living it. When Contraband came out they were 40-45 year old millionaires, ones that made a several street rock albums already over the last 20 years. They play it well, but that's because that's what they've done plenty of times. This doesn't even cover the hundred other bands that play in that style too.

Axl ignored that, pushed forward musically, took risks and still unleashed on several songs. Slash's songs are cool, but they don't stick with me. You may not like them, but Axl's stand out far more.

Also "Prostitute" is far from crap.

See now that's the big thing I just don't understand. How does prostitute get such love from a small dedicated group on this board? I mean I cannot stand his voice on the song at all he sounds castrated and way too clean for axl. What is it about that song that you really enjoy? And by the way I play "street rock" personally, it's one of my favorite genres and overall I wish more bands played it Cuz it seems to bridge the gaps of fans with different musical tastes.

  10. He blindsided me with such douchieness when I saw them live in Vegas 2014 that I threw up everytime he climbed onto a railing and did the pump up arms to try n get the crowd "pumped up" so I consider it even. NEVERMIND his abysmal playing. He oughta just go fuck off

  11. A reunion album comes with a nostalgia tag that is hard to shake.

But basing it around an Izzy solo album then getting Slash to work on them. Then Slash would need to do a heavy rocker with Axl lyrics. Then Axl does one epic with Slash, like the answer to Madagascar. If there's one ballad...

But I kind of see where Axl sees more potential to do something different with Fortus or Dj. I could imagine a Evanescence type ballad with Dj. Or a ballad like I Don't Love You by My Chemical Romance.

The hype around a reunion would be so much that a record seems impossible. So they would basically tour bring back Dust n Bones, think about You, 14 Years, Attitude, Down on the Farm, Bad Obsession, Double Talking Jive, maybe some AFD songs like My Michelle, Out Ta Get Me, Move to the City, Mama Kin.

A record you'd expect to be like a mix of where each guy is now. They seem more seperate now. Each guy has his story. To bring them all back together and gel thematically would be the hardest thing. We know the music would kick ass but it's like what do they have to say?

A my chemical romance type song from slash? Ah what mate? How about no thank you there lol I need a bowl of whatever you're smoking there haha
I said Dj. I think he has long term value. But it might not happen.

Your right I read that wrong im sorry I could see that from DJ as well

  13. It sold well for what it was, a dated, cheesy crossover of nu metal and piano ballads with no promotion from the guy who created it. Contraband was the ultimate 2000s modern rock album made by GNR members, not CD. Contraband sold well, had videos, hit singles, etc. Axl failed with his vision. The other guys, with simple ideas and good ears for great melodies created a fucking awesome album.

Contraband is a good album has its fair share of filler, not as much as Libertad! although I prefer CD. If Axl can better CD with the next release maybe VR can be associated with the term "One Hit Wonders". Weiland is not the only singer Slash, Duff & Sorum couldn't get along with!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say CD sold between $6-7 Million copies sold worldwide, so far!

Yeah I dunno where people are getting this 6-7 million figure but more than a couple posters have said it, dudes it sold about 600,000 copies in the US and about 1 million in Europe. I HIGHLY doubt it sold another 4.5 to 5.5 million copies in Africa and Asia. Face it the album stunk n its sales reflect that. There are some interesting and good moments on it, but man most of it was pretty lousy. And dude you honestly think cd is better than contraband? I'm a dude in the mid twenties in the US and let's just say I got way more friends that liked velvet revolver than even knew guns n roses was still around lol
