Frustrating yes, fraud absolutely not. I won't be cancelling my order but I'm pissed off. The last minute nature of this without any communication is what's annoying... But it is to be expected with his band. Bands delay releases all the time, there have been issues with vinyl over the past few years but this isn't an excuse as they would have known about it well in advance. What worries me is that this December release date would now be taking place outside of any touring cycle, it just doesn't seem logical to release a new song in that way? For no apparent reason whatsoever. Perhaps was probably released to help boost US sales. For this reason I wouldn't be surprised if it's delayed longer term. If December comes and goes at that point I'd probably cancel the order.

Same. You are right, perspective required. I also think this makes a digital release less likely in the immediate future. Very few people would purchase the perhaps vinyl if the General was freely available on streaming platforms. If it's not out by December it will probably be scraped. Momentum of Perhaps single release has gone. No tour etc.

Not ready? Legal issues perhaps? The song itself cannot still need a 'tweak' surely? Dismayed, disappointed, but somehow not surprised, typical GNR this. 😭

I've just placed an order for the vinyl from the UK store. I can't play it but generally buy them anyway as collectables... 🤣 anyway the postage explanation is as follows: If the product is in stock, please allow 48 hours for it to be picked, packed and shipped. If your order is a pre order product, your item will be picked, packed and posted within 24 hours of the stated release date. Add onto all that at least 1 day for delivery. Release date is stil stated as 27th October in the UK and on my confirmation email etc.

My Spotify search (UK) for The General now brings up a playlist called the general, perhaps, GNR then perhaps again.... I'm sure this is different to a few days ago. Perhaps appearing twice in the top 4 searches as both a song and single. No idea if that means anything... I can't even work out how to upload the screenshot to this post 🤣

I get that but in reality it isn't 99% of fans, it's a tiny % of fans who lurk on the internet (us). The majority of fans won't go searching for it online until it's on Spotify etc. For the band it's free publicity Vs some fans having a crap quality version for a few days. It has to be released on digital platforms I agree, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it wasn't vinyl only for a short period.

I think it's looking more likely that there won't be a digital release this week. My prediction would be that the Vinyl will be shipped and people will start to receive it over the next week as anticipated. We will hear it online next week. The track will get picked up in the music press, they will use that free bit of publicity and release it shortly afterwards on digital format. Possibly next Friday or the one after that.

I'm increasingly of the view that we may have heard parts of The General before and that the song could well have been included in those village leaks, could be that SOG is an early version, maybe it's another instrumental but I find it hard to believe they weren't working on it at that time. Just a gut feeling. I also don't think massive amounts of additional CD material exists beyond those leaks. There will be some stuff but the core of that era is likely there and it would be weird for The General not to be a part of it.

What would be quite amusing is if we have heard it before without even knowing it! I know this has been discussed but what if one of the village leak demos actually is The General? Not impossible by any means. Brain would have worked on the song around that time I'm sure. Weird how Brain also worked on the score the 2003 film titled 'Monster'. 🤣

This is a really fascinating release for sure. My hope is that GNR are deliberately downplaying this song, releasing as a B side etc because they know it's an epic track which will speak for itself. They seemed to go big (for GNR) on the perhaps release with the video, jukebox stunt etc. This release is completely different so far. Exciting times. I suspect it will be an epic track from the CD era. If it comes anywhere close to Prostitute or TWAT then I'd be happy. It is amazing that this track has never been leaked.

I totally agree. If it's being released it will almost certainly be available digitally. Putting it out as a B side is a smart move if it really is a big song...play it down, drop it quietly and let the fans/critics do the promo. It's already getting hype in the media etc without them doing anything. 👍
