  1. Wowzers... Would be cool if that happens! Saw Izzy with them in 2006 at Download, fingers crossed it happens again on Friday when I'm there.

Thanks for the info OP... But I don't get the relevance of the photo???

thats what izzy will be using dude. behind the big lights and empty cabs bands mainly use trusty combos. ;)

    Oh, now I'm with you!

Don't talk to me about 'trusty combos'... When I used to help out my friends' band as a guitar tech at their gigs the singer/rhythm guitarist would always have a problem with his Fender head running into some knocked around cab... used to drive me up the wall! But thankfully his whole band got a load of free Marshall gear when the won the Ultimate Unsigned Band Contest last October, and the other prize they got is playing at Download in a couple of weeks so it all worked out well in the end!

  2. This observation of mine is completely tongue in cheek as far as I'm concerned, but I know how much people on here love to over analyse things and look for hidden meaning. So here goes...

    Just started watching "

" (I think it's from sometime this week) on YouTube. Anyway, Slash is wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt... but instead of Mickey's face, there's a red star with what looks like a cross (X) over it...!!!!

Mickey Mouse... Often used as a metaphor for Axl's voice, Axl has himself worn a Mickey Mouse shirt recently (I think?)

Red star... China, Chinese Democracy, album artwork...

The cross (X)... Slash is anti-Axl, taking the piss out of the whole thing, hates Chinese Democracy...

    Dun-dunn-derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

    Discuss.

  3. You have an extended version of the video where you can actually see DJ walk past him or just the same video that we've all seen in which it doesn't happen ?

From what I can see DJ walks towards him but has to jump up on the stairs as he can't get around him lying on the ground - then the lights go off.

Doesn't look to me that he walks past him.

Yeah, having watched it again it looks like DJ does jog up the steps to get around to the other side to help him up. Just the first time I watched it it sorta made me laugh!

People falling over... it's the gift that keeps on giving! In all seriousness I hope there are no injuries or ill-effects as a result of his accident(s).

  4. Just watching some footage from Dublin to get myself pumped for London next week when I noticed this little episode of Bumble dicking about with Axl during Rocket Queen... I just love how nonchalant he is about it as he walks past! Anyway, it brought a smile to my face as I'm sat inside at work when the weather is so beaut here in the UK today!

    It's around the 4:10 mark:

  5. I find it hard to be impressed, they are only doing what normal bands have done forever. Impressive for GnR but normal for everybody else.

If we are to compare with other bands then I think we should be fair and compare with other bands who released their debut record ~ 25 years ago, not with new and hungry bands with everything to prove and nothing to lose. And most of these other old bands were disbanded many years ago, they don't even exist! The fact that Guns N' Roses still exists and is remarkably alive and active, despite all the troubles and former members quitting, is a huge testament to Axl's stubbornness and longevity. So yeah, it is impressive. I was certain GN'R wouldn't even survive to see the 90's, and here we are, in 2012, with a great tour going on and lots of suggestions of new music on the horizon with less than four years since the latest release. I think it is pretty impressive.

Metallica and Pearl Jam. Two examples of bands who have been around roughly the same period of time (give or take, but their debuts were both over 20 years ago, so I think they qualify as a comparison)

Eh, you can't just pick one or two bands to compare with of the goal is to say something relevant about how GN'R is doing compared to bands that started out in the late 80's :D. You have to compare with the majority of such bands, and fact is, most bands that started out in the late 80's have been dead and buried for a long time...

...because those bands were not the biggest band in the world or even close. The only bands I would compare GNR to would be Pearl Jam, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2.

GN'R wasn't the biggest band in the world in 1987/1988, either. They became something similar to that during the bloated UYI tour in the early 90's. Take a look at this list of hits in 1988 and tell me how many of these bands are doing better than GN'R today: http://www.musicoutfitters.com/topsongs/1988.htm INXS? Breathe? Miami Sound Machine? Cheap Trick? Whitesnake? Def Leppard? The Bangles? I am not denying that Pearl Jam, RHCP, U2 and other giants have done better, just that compared to most bands that started out in the late 1980's GN'R is doing remarkably well.

From the Def Leppard page on Wikipedia: [...] I'd say they are doing better than GNR, at least in terms of the public perception and activity other than touring (which incidentally they are still doing - headlining Download in 2011 is pretty massive, and something that GNR did in 2006).

I hope you haven't been checking out all the bands on that list to try to find some more bands doing better than GN'R, because the fast remains that MOST bands that were great in 1988 are now dead :D

No, I just went straight for Def Leppard because I knew that they were still active. To be honest I didn't even click on the link because I knew it would be something of a wild goose chase ;-)

Despite the fact I'm not a Def Leppard fan (nothing against them, I just don't follow them), I am aware of the fact that they are still going and still headlining big shows (like Download)... This is what makes me believe that they are comparatively doing better than GNR up to the year 2012.

However, while I share the frustrations of those that feel GNR are massively underachieving or perhaps just 'going through the motions' with a largely unchanged live show in the last few years, this should not take away from the fact that many, many people will still be perfectly happy with what they get at a concert. And that's why we're all here, right? We love the band, and we want to see the guys do well. Comparing to other bands is a bit like checking out other women when you're married/in a relationship - sure, you may be more than content with your partner, but there might also be a part of you that wishes she had the legs or personality of someone else you see or know.

Life is life, just got to enjoy what you can from it and not take it too seriously.

From the Def Leppard page on Wikipedia:

    Recent events (2010–present)

According to a recent interview with Elliott, the band is working on a live album, a boxed set, a new tour in 2011, and a cartoon of the band set for TV.[55] The live album was announced on 22 February 2011 as Mirrorball, to be released in parts of Europe 3 June, the rest of Europe 6 June, and 7 June in the US; it was announced at the same time that Def Leppard would perform at the Download Festival on 10 June 2011.[56] The first single from the live album is a studio track, "Undefeated."

Def Leppard embarked on a two-month U.S. tour in the summer of 2011, with Heart.[57] Later an Australian Tour, Japanese Tour & a UK Tour was announced. The UK Tour featured Mötley Crüe as co-headliners and Steel Panther as opening act. Def Leppard appeared at the Channel Seven Perth Telethon during their Australian tour. The 2011 summer tour had cancellations, Heart and Def Leppard were supposed to play Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin, on 17 July. They both cancelled due to the death of Joe Elliot's father. At the last minute Rock Fest was able to secure Ted Nugent and Stone Temple Pilots as replacements.

Def Leppard will be touring with Poison and Lita Ford in the US during the summer of 2012 starting on 20 June.[58][59] Def Leppard are to headline Rock Fest on 22 July with Poison and others.[60]

I'd say they are doing better than GNR, at least in terms of the public perception and activity other than touring (which incidentally they are still doing - headlining Download in 2011 is pretty massive, and something that GNR did in 2006).

  7. I find it hard to be impressed, they are only doing what normal bands have done forever. Impressive for GnR but normal for everybody else.

Metallica and Pearl Jam. Two examples of bands who have been around roughly the same period of time (give or take, but their debuts were both over 20 years ago, so I think they qualify as a comparison). Metallica have have bass-player issues (one died and another quit), and Pearl Jam have had more drummers than GNR. Yet they still put records out regularly and keep the fan-base sated with tours, news and releases. They aren't exactly "new and hungry".

And while Metallica stick to a moderately structured setlist on a tour, Pearl Jam crank out a different 25-30 song setlist every night. I've seen them four times and have seen over 70 different songs. I've seen Guns N' Roses 5 times, and have seen about 30 different songs. That is what I think is griping most people. This formulaic tour structure that doesn't seem to evolve other than maybe throwing in a couple of different covers on each tour. People pay their hard earned money to see GUNS N' ROSES - not a load of covers.

That said, I take nothing away from the performances themselves - the band is tight as you like, and from the videos I've seen recently they are putting on one hell of a show, and I've massively looking forward to seeing them next Friday.

  8. Man that sounds badass... Serious lungs on her. I also like the way they made the main riff a bit more staccato at the beginning but then gave it the full AFD swagger by the time the chorus kicked in. Oooooooh, just spotted that they've also covered Hunger Strike by Temple Of The Dog... best give that one a listen!

  9. Well maybe this is a blessing in disguise... If he's flying from Moscow to Ireland on the day of the show, perhaps his body clock will still be on Moscow time (some hours ahead of the time in Dublin), and he'll actually get on stage sooner then he would do if he'd had time to acclimatise?

    ;)

  10. More Illusions material in the set? Works for me. I'll be anxious to see if this happens and what songs they choose.

From the way the question and answer were worded I take that as meaning it will be more Illusions material compared to the last time they were in the UK (2010). So I'm guessing that will simply mean Estranged and Civil War. Which I'm totally cool with as I've never seen those songs live before and I'm looking forward to seeing them played at the O2 (fingers crossed!).... But if they decided to bust out something like Locomotive, Don't Damn Me or Bad Apples I'd be a very happy man!

  11. actually, it was on the GNR Twitter, and this this is what was said:

"Always prepping for something we haven't done yet!" I think there's some music lying around for that ;-)

so, i would put too much stock into that facebook post.

Well they played Estranged at Rio, which was something that this line-up hadn't done yet, so it might be the re-emergence of a song from the back catalogue.... Oh My God perhaps? Strictly speaking, it's a song that they (with the exception of Axl, Tommy, Dizzy and Chris - so half the band) 'haven't done yet'. Don't really know what to expect, but I'm optimistic that something will happen on Friday.

In terms of managing my own expectations, I haven't seen Guns since October 2010 in the UK, so at least when I see them at the O2 I'll get a couple of new experiences (Estranged and Civil War) which will probably be enough for me... but OMG or any other new material (even if it's an song from the back catalogue that I've not seen performed live yet) will be a bonus for me. Either way, I'm stoked for June 1st!!

  12. Just seen this on fb. I hope it's got to do with all the goings ons of earler today.

What happened earlier on today? The Bumblefoot email about 2 new songs? Or have I missed something else? (Don't really have the time to trawl through 8-page+ threads while sneaking a browse of MYGNR at work!)

  13. Doesn't look like anyone has posted about this, but the update from the GNR Facebook page about an hour ago was very interesting...

"Dialing in on 5-11 - who is ready for something that they haven't had yet?"

So 5-11 will be the first show of this tour in Russia, and the "something they haven't had yet" bit implies that a brand new song might be played... Or it could be a reference to Anything Goes, and maybe they're going to play that one instead?

Mods - did a quick sweep of the recent posts and couldn't see anything about this (it was only posted an hour ago by GNR on Facebook), but if this is duplicate news or needs to be merged, then please by all means merge away!

Fingers crossed for some new material this tour!!

  14. Hi Kira, have you got your tickets yet? I originally bought a pair for the Thursday (first show), but when they announced the second show on the Friday it was much more convenient for my girlfriend and I, so we've got tickets for that as well, but I'll be looking to offload the tickets for the Thursday (May 31st)... face value, of course :)

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Not just yet and thank you for the offer but I'll be getting tickets for Friday as that's more convenient for me too.

No worries, hope you manage to get tickets for the Friday. Maybe see you there for a drink before or after!

  15. Well I'm super excited for this gig because it means I'll get to attend at least one GnR gig this year! The chips are totally falling the right places for me; my exams will be over by then to it will be perfect post-exams stress relief and I won't have to pay for the hotel room! (My sister-in-law works for Jury's Inn and has a voucher for a night's stay in London so all we have to pay for is tickets, transport and food! XD)

In whole world except US,Gnr have cult status and can sellout arenas and stadiums

    True.

I disagree with that statement to a certain degree.

I'm actually fairly surprised that the 31st May London show is sold out seeing as they only toured here a year and a half ago. I went to back-to-back London dates then and while the first show was packed, the second show wasn't so. I can only assume that the June 1st show will be even less so than the second show last time.

well man, relax.I said gnr can sellout arenas in Europe,SA,Japan,Asia and Australia. And that is fact,as we could see in 2010.Also first show is London is soldout, and this is another fact and great succsess.Don't be so negative

There's a difference between negativity and realism.

I've got tickets for both shows (31st May and 1st June) and I went to the back-to-back shows in 2010 (13th and 14th October), and as X_Patience_X said, the top tier was curtained off. They had also been giving away tickets for free on the day of the show.

Again, a difference between negativity and being realistic, and based on past events, its highly unlikely that they will sell out a second show.

Hey man the point is GNr can sell out arenas across the globe except US.As you said they sold out first London gig,and after that they added new date.Nobody talking about second date sellout.

REality is>GNR sold out London gig and added second.

Some information about second gig,on upper level only 1000 left.Don;t get me wrong, but there is more than 2 months till the show

gnrkoncerti - just wondering about the upper level at the O2 for the second night. I've just looked on Ticketmaster and seen on the seat planner that there is no availability whatsoever in the top bit... Given that there are still seats available for the lower tier (which are arguably much better seats) it does make me wonder whether or not the top section is on sale at all. Did you see the seat plan earlier and see that there were tickets available in the top section at one point?

At the moment I have tickets for both nights (there was no Friday option when the Thursday went on sale, so I got what I could!) and I'll be looking to sell the Thursday tickets on here at face value at some point, but then again I want to go to a show with a huge crowd if possible... So if the top section is going to be closed off on the Friday, my girlfriend and I might re-evaluate which show we go to.

  17. Hmmmmmm strange there was earlier , hold on for news on that. Maybe it's booked but they are waiting on the 31st to sell abit first. It was definteley up on the gnr site an hour ago.

Yeah, I reckon it was probably Fernando being a little too quick on the trigger. It'll be up again tomorrow probably

Yeah, that sounds plausible. Either way I'll be going on the 31st - yippee!!!

X_Patience_X, I see on the 'Who's Attending' thread that you're going to the O2... Judging by your signature I'm also going to guess that you were at the O2 on Tuesday 18th August 2009....????

Yeah dude I was there. Only sitting though. Going to see them in Manchester though on 20th June :D

I was thinking about doing that, but it would have been a bit of a hassle going up there from where I live (near Guildford in Surrey), so instead of taking a couple of days off work and getting a hotel in Manchester, the girlfriend and I chose to fly out to Amsterdam for 3 days/2 nights to catch the show at the Ziggo Dome on 27th June, with some culture-vulture stuff on the other days... Can't wait!!
