    1999:

Rose: We've been working on, I don't know, 70 songs.

    Loder: Oh!

Rose: The record will be about, anywhere from 16 to 18 songs, but we recorded at least two albums' worth of material that is solidly recorded. But we are working on a lot more songs than that at the same time... in that way, what we're doing is exploring so, you know, you get a good idea, you save it, and then maybe you come back to it later, or maybe you get a good idea and you go, "That's really cool, but that's not what we're looking for. Okay, let's try something new." You know, basically taking the advance money for the record and actually spending it on the record.

    20000

The rebuilding - and ongoing reinvention - of Guns N Roses has been a difficult and, quite obviously, slow and expensive process. Rose does point out that the expense will be less glaring if, as he expects, he gets another record out of the hours and hours of material he's committed to tape, possibly one that's even more industrial and electronica-influence than Chinese Democracy.

    2001

Axl: We hadn't written songs or recorded for many years. There were band changes and there were many changes in the record company. People in the record company had many opinions and they wanted to make the best possible record. Every time that we thought that we had the correct songs, then somebody thought that we could make it better. We started over, we continued adding songs, continued recording and recording. I think that when we release the album, it's gonna be something that I'm gonna be proud of and confident in. Then, we will also have an extra heap of songs. This band has played only been together for six weeks before Rio. So it is still very new for them to play together as band, with Robin (Finck) and Buckethead. That was a surprise. Obviously, that was the correct decision to make, but it was not originally planned to have three guitarists.

    2002

Axl: It's gonna be a big rock show, yeah. We've... There's, there's a lot going on in, on the staging of it, you know. And pyro and different things like that, so it will be a, a big show.

But also this show is something that is, is designed to be growing. You know, over the next couple of years. It's like, this is the start of something, but then remember we will be putting out a record and then... About a year of so after that, we'll be putting out another one. So there'll be a lot more material added to the set with a lot more things going on. This is the beginning, and we need to be showing people, you know, a lot of the older material, but it will grow.

Sure wish all of that would have happened.

  2. If there are 2-3 songs that really mean something to Axl, bring those to Slash/Duff.

Releasing the remaining CD session songs on ITunes. It cleans out the vault. It gives fans new music. And it allows guys like Bumble and Bucket the opportunity to get paid for their work. And since it’s an iTunes songs release, Axl doesn’t face the pressure and criticism of releasing a “gnr” album that doesn’t have Slash:Duff

Current GnR write and release a new album in Summer of 2019. Nine new songs and the three songs Axl brought with him (the general and Atlas or whatever).

As a fan I would be in hog heaven to get 20-25 new Axl Rose songs in the next year.

I dont think its anything special either. I believe people fantasize it is a great "rocker" because its a guitar driven song but from the leaked clip it sound as bland as a SMKC song to me.

I liked the checkmate leak because it sounds like a straight-foward old fashion rock song - ala Yesterdays. It doesn't sound layered to death or like there are 38 different instrument parts on it.

But music is 100% personal preference. We all like/love/dislike different things/sounds. What one person loves, another will hate. And that's OK. All that really matters is what the person listening thinks.

  4. I've recently completed an online music project that includes a story about GnR. To wrap up the story I'd like a section where fans share their story about what GnR means to them. It can be what the band means to them, a song that saved their life, an album that helped them get through a horrible time in life, etc. If you would like your story to be shared, please shoot me a PM. You will be fully credited in whatever way you'd like - real name or screen name, etc.

The story mainly focuses on GnR, Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Bon Jovi. So I'm getting stories from fans of each band.

    Thank you in advance.

Ten years ago, Guns N' Roses released the unpopular and divisive album named Chinese Democracy.

One year later in 2009, Brain talked about doing remixes of that album:

In 2014, Axl confirmed to Revolver Magazine a remix album of Chinese Democracy is on the way:

And as of this date, Guns N' Roses have performed more than half of Chinese Democracy during the reunion tour with Slash and Duff McKagen.

    -

The way I look at it, I could not think of a better way to not only release the remix album but also to re-release Chinese Democracy just the way Axl wanted it to be released.

In addition to this, GN'R are back on the charts with "Shadow Of Your Love" and could keep the momentum going by releasing a new song from the Chinese Democracy era.

    latest?cb=20110621012059

    Thoughts?

Poll a million random GnR fans and ask what two albums would they prefer:
    1. New material
    2. CD2 (Axl said it was already finished)
    3. CD-Remixes
    4. A re-release of CD

What do you think the voting percentages would be?

I'm not a mind reader, nor can I travel in time. But I can assure you the voting numbers would look something like:

    1.    655,555

    2.    344,440

    3.    3

    4.    2

The ONLY thing Axl and his "team" should be working on is releasing CD2 or an album of brand new material. Not a single 15-minute stretch of time should be used even thinking about releasing a remix of Shackler's Revenge or a re-release of CD.

Releasing new music is the only thing Axl should be working on in terms of what he plans to release next.  They've now milked the Appetite catalog to death. I sure hope they aren't planning to do another box set in 2021 for the Illusions featuring eight versions of Perfect Crime.

New Music is the only thing they should be working on.

  6. There is the possibility that it was just a delay tactic so he wouldn't have to release CD2. Along with reuniting with Slash. And playing with ACDC.

It's a theory that some float around. Axl will do anything so he won't have to release CD2, an album he said would come out almost a decade ago. Isn't there a quote somewhere from Axl where he said the band didn't record the album to NOT release it. Yet here we are....2018 and no new album set for anytime in the near future. In fact, it looks like Axl would do a new ACDC album before releasing another GnR album.

Was he so traumatized by the reaction to CD that he is now afraid - or unwilling - to release CD2?

I hope not. I personally loved CD. And think that The General and "Checkmate" sound amazing. I would pay $100 for CD2 all day.

you mean that funny story about how Slash came to inform Axl that ‘Duff was spineless,’ ‘Scott [Weiland] was a fraud,’ that he ‘hates Matt Sorum’ and that in this ongoing war, contest or whatever anyone wants to call it that Slash has waged against Axl for the better part of 20 years, that Axl has proven himself ‘the stronger.’ ? :D

    Who provided those quotes?

Let Chinese Democracy die. Just let it die. Their current nostalgic, choreographed, stylized recapturing of their 80s period doesn't mesh well with the industrial, bitter stuff from the CD era. And even if this is a band that hopes to produce new music, I doubt Slash and Duff are going to be thrilled playing that stuff. It would make no sense for GNR to release this type of music right now, and despite SOYL being a mediocre song, scraped from the deepest parts of the proverbial barrel, it's definitely a move that harmonizes with everything they've been doing so far. At least it shows direction; not movement forward, but direction nonetheless.

The boys just had a couple months off. And have been touring together for over a year now on a pretty light schedule. They aren’t grinding it out with shows every night.

A very easy direction they could have taken - that would have thrilled their fan base - was to have just written a couple songs together over that year period.

If the band had debuted two songs on this leg - a rocker and a ballad.....fans would be going crazy, the positive critical reaction would be outstanding.

Those dudes are musicians. Why not create a song or two and share them will the millions of fans?

i know we're all dying for new material but those are literally the two worst songs in gnr's catalog after my world. tbh im not even interested in the least bit but thats just me

Would much rather hear brand new  material instead of studio versions of all these songs that we’ve already heard thousands of times.

I have zero interest in hearing a slightly altered version of a song that’s been around for 20 years.

  10. I've had one book published. It was a non-fiction history type book that was written as a fundraiser for a group in my city. I donated all proceeds from the book to the cause, I believe they ended up making about $20,000.  But it was an actual published book - not a self-published Ebook on Amazon.  THERE is nothing wrong with self-publishing or publishing an Ebook or on Amazon or whatever. Nothing wrong with that at all.  I'm not putting that avenue down at all, as I am about to use that route myself. But there is a difference between the two. I have a nephew who brags to everybody that he has dropped three albums and has a published novel. When in reality, he just posts his music on Youtube and Soundcloud and his "published novel" was something he paid for on Amazon.

I've worked on numerous publishing projects and have had articles published in more newspapers than I can count. Lol, which sounds cool, but in reality, I was just an editor and writer for a newspaper. Other newspapers around the state will occasionally pick up your stories/articles for their paper.  And then on occasion, out-of-state newspapers will use your stories.  Once a basketball team from Australia came to play in a local tournament. They obviously didn't sent a reporter, so they hired me as a freelancer to chronicle the trip of their boys/team/parents in our unique locale. So I've been published overseas as well. Lol - it looks a lot more impressive on my resume, as opposed to what it really was, just a human interest story on some high school kids! I also did some work for a small faction of the Olympics, which was actually a lot of fun and turned out pretty cool.

I've got a ton of mainly finished novels lying in the vault (ala Axl)....but at this stage of my life, I absolutely despise editing and rewriting. Writing/creating is fun. Editing/rewriting is dreadful and soul sucking, imo.

Here’s the thing that I think Axl came to understand about the forums. Essentially there are a ton of people coming here who care, but if you aren’t willing or able to share information with these people then stay quiet about it.

There are going to be things said that you don’t like and maybe they are unfair to whoever they are directed at. But if there’s not a truth to it that you are willing to share then ignore it.

I’d much rather a management group make us the fans feel stupid by action. Maybe some things we ask for are too much, like new music. We get that Fernando can’t just pull new music out of thin air, or bring Izzy back full time or anything outrageous. But what Fernando can do is show he’s on the fans side and send a nice email to YouTube stating that there seems to be some confusion with some recently blocked videos. Uzi suicidal hasn’t existed in two decades and is not affiliated with the Guns N Roses brand. Come back here or msg the mods and say “hey I sent an email about the recent takedown on some of the videos posted. Hope it helps!”

If as a manager in the gnr camp you can have some forward positive action going on then the fans will be thrilled! Most people understand your position and you aren’t a magician, but it’s really deflating as a fan to feel like the GNR camp thinks less of their dedicated fans and at times is against them. And yea I see that could go both ways, but we are here. We talk about the band everyday, we buy the merchandise, we go to the shows we don’t expect a whole lot out of you guys. However, you’re the one asking us to buy a $999 box set..so do a better job of selling the brand, and be decent to the “small communities” of gnr fans.

    100% spot on.

In the last few days, I had several copyright claims on my videos and I do have them on almost all videos stating i can have them uploaded but Geffen or whatever company will monetize them which is fine by me.

But these were different because they are suddenly blocked on youtube meaning they got removed from my channel

    - Ain't Goin' Down No More (Instrumental Version \ 1986 Sound City - Guns N' Roses  -  claimed by UMG for Geffen - Blocked in all countries

    - Move To The City (Acoustic Version / 1986 Sound City Session) - Guns N' Roses  -  claimed by UMG for Geffen - Blocked in all countries

    - Jumpin' Jack Flash (Acoustic Version / 1986 Sound City Session) - Guns N' Roses  -  claimed by UMG for Geffen - Blocked in all countries

    - Move To The City (Acoustic Version / 1986 Sound City Session) - Guns N' Roses  -  claimed by UMG for Geffen - Blocked in all countries

These have been sitting there for a while and suddenly they got blocked same goes for the mystic studio tape it had to be removed too.

So maybe GnFnR is looking to release those demo sessions

    That’s great information.

What is UMG - is it a subset of Geffen?

I'm just happy we're getting something this year. 2018 was looking pretty bleak as it was and with a definite "lull" coming up with Slash touring and Axl doing Axl things, I'm glad there will be a last hurrah to hold us over. I think I'd be the only person here who would actually cherish a remastered album and buy it day one.

Just out of curiosity. What is it about the original Appetite that you think would sound better if touched up in the studio?

  14. People with huge egos are often also extremely insecure.

Unfortunately.....they usually never really take responsibilities for their past actions.  They might say and laugh "Oh, I was such a jerk back then" but deep down, they really don't think they were that bad and they believe it was everybody else that was at fault.

My guess is Axl still feels exactly the same way as he did 30  years ago. But he is older and more mature now and realizes that to continue to be successful, he can't act like that anymore. Look at the fit when CD came out. He literally stopped promoting it because he was pissed about the album notes. The label gave him concrete deadlines of when they were going to print and needed his notes. Axl chose to NOT submit his updated version. Just so he could show he was still the boss. Then when the label didn't cave....he chose to not promote his OWN ALBUM.

  15. If this is GnR, really the only way it works is if it's another Greatest Hits album but with 1-3 new songs.

Does anybody really think Axl is going to give final word to anybody on an album full of his material?

But if this was just another cash grab.....whoops, I mean if this is another Greatest Hits album, but throwing a couple new songs on it, in that scenario, Axl would be more likely to let a producer have final call on the 2 new songs.

14 new songs - no way Axl gives up that control.

2 new songs - quite possibly.
