When I went to the first Hammerstein show and they debuted the "new/final" intro for CD, I turned to my friend and said "This should open every single show going forward"

The CD  build up and the  "It don't really matter" gets you more fired up than hearing the opening notes of Jungle and then hearing Axl's demonic scream "you know where the fuxk you are? You're in the jungle baby, your gonna diiieeeeeeee"....

It's all personal preference. So there is no wrong or right answer.

    But really?

How about PC as the closer? Replace it with Sorry or IRS?

    Hey Gunners,

I just thought i'd put it out there that I reckon Get in the Ring would absolutely KILL in a live context, yeah it's a bit of a 'Jokey' or tongue in cheek... bad damn I reckon that song would RIP live!!

Who's with me? That classic bluesy, slutty intro and the sheer sneer and tenacity of all its punk glory. the name-calling section would be interesting to see what they fire out ;)

I reckon it would literally blow the roof off any venue and the faces off any crowd.

    Damn.

(I won't do a vote etc, but i don't often see it discussed much.)

Loathe it or think it would shred?

Edit: Sorry if this has already been discussed in detail, I'm just a shady lurker on here mostly :)

Lyrically the song is an embarrassment to the GnR catalog. Like people have said - the rant and name calling thing just makes them look ridiculous.

And after backing down to Vince's challenge to fight, Axl probably shouldn't have been calling anybody out.

    it was what i meant
We cant compare the reality of rock star with normal persons
of course, to us the routine of rock stars is like dream
but even all luxury and confortable things around they have need to rest in home, stay with family, do what they want ...
    no place like  home

Rock stars are "normal" people. They aren't super-humans. They aren't any better or more special than you are. Being able to sing or okay guitar doesn't make you better than "normal" people.

    *****

you guys are confusing the touring life of GnR with how most bands tour. GnR isn't grinding it out on your. This isn't the Illusions days. They aren't in the road for a year straight. Playing 3-5 shows a week. Spending days and nights in a small bus.

These guys are taking chartered jets. Playing a couple shows a week. Staying in the finest luxury suites. Axl has his entire circle of family and friends with him. And they are touring for a couple months and then talking huge chunks of time off. While making a million bucks a week.

    Touring is a crime.

What GnR is doing is not a grind by any stretch of the imagination.

And that somehow means they can't get exhausted of being away from home and staying in a series of hotel rooms while they are constantly traveling from one country to another another country every handful of days?

Having a lot of money does not make them less human.

And being a rock star or in GnR doesn't make them "more" of a human than the rest of us either.

  5. CD shouldn't even be played live. Much less open a show.

Gnr has the best show opener and best show closer in rock music. Jungle and PC. No need to change up perfection.

It's like the lady with a perfect face saying she is getting a nose job. Why, there is no need.

Play with and mix up the rest of the setlist. Move things around. Add new songs. Play old deep cuts.

    But leave perfection alone.

That guitar part.....Axl asking if the crowd knows where they are....them the demon scream to kick things into motion. It seriously is the best opener in rock music.

I thinking that more important what they will do if rest or work anything else is they rest each other
it's been over 40 days together on tiring routine plane-hotel-gig.
Have to stay with coworkers all the time is not good

    Lol really?

They only play like two shows a week. They are working maybe a total of 10 hours a week. Show up to work at 7 pm and do a show then have several days off in a row. Their schedule is a cake walk compared to the average person.

And they aren't sharing hotel rooms. These guys are staying in the finest luxury suites that money can buy. They each have their own suite, and that suite is nicer and more expensive than anything you or I could ever afford in our wildest dreams.

They have their own personal chefs, maids, butlers and masseuses.

All while getting paid close to a million dollars a week.

The normal person on this forum works harder than the boys in GnR do.

I said Axl IS a very mediocre singer.

Yes, in the past he delivered some good vocals on AFD, Lies, and UYI. What stands out the most is the variety of styles... he could sing beautiful mellow melodies like on Patience, or display a nasal tone on songs like Mr. Brownstone, hit highs at the end of Rocket Queen, deliver long sustains like on Don't Cry and pierce your fucking skull with songs like Perfect Crime.

BUT that's all in the past. He never polished his craft, and although he was never GREAT, he had an immense potential that ended up being wasted. It's very sad that he never reached his full potential. If he had trained his voice in the same way that any accomplished guitarist/basist/pianist/drumer/violinist polishes his technique, he would be an incredible singer today, but it's not the case.

He was never great, but he was good and had lots of potential. It's a shame that he decided to not give a fuck to the point that some of his performances have been pathetic and disrespectful to the fans.

    Nailed it.

I liked that quality of Axl's voice in which you never knew what you were going to get vocally. His vocals for this entire show were off. but, yeah, for m the up downs of his vocals during th illusion tour are something i enjoy.

just so I'm not misunderstanding what you posted....you are saying you enjoy going to a show and having the singer's voice not be very good that night?  Do you just enjoy that for Axl or do you enjoy shows where other singers are having off nights? To each their own - if that's your thing, more power to ya!!!  It's just such a fascinating thing to hear somebody say. I'm in my 40s and I don't think I've ever heard somebody say that before. That's why I'm curious if you just feel that way about Axl or about all singers?

The circle jerk of hate in this thread.

    #notmyband.

A lot of the hate and negativity is coming from you, though. The people you keep complaining about our stating their opinion about a BAND MEMBER. That's what a band forum is for - to discuss the actual band. All your negativity is directed towards other forum members. Why do you care if people don't love the same band members that you do? It's odd to get so triggered because most people don't like one of the hired hands.

She seems like a nice person and is obviously a good musician. But her personality mirrors that of a 13-year-old. No intelligent adult actually uses words like dope and rad and lit in their everyday vocabulary. I'll go out on a limb and guess that she probably says "like" in every other sentence as well.

And stop with the ignorant rhetoric about people not liking her must not like women. GnR use to be labeled as the most Dangerous Band in the World. To have that band reunite (at least a portion of it) and have a blue-haired rave "chick" who talks like a middle school girl is a bit of a shocking avenue for Axl to take. People on here don't hate women. They reacted the same way when Axl hired DJ Ashba, who spent more time trying to perfect his "rock look" and persona than he did improving his guitar skills. DJ spent more time on his make-up and tweeting than he did practicing guitar. Did people who hated DJ being in the band also hate "men" (like you are claiming about those who dislike Melissa?).

At least for rock n roll ,  Of course he is.

Only mercury cant fight him on this, but axl haves so many levels that its pretty much imposible to touch him.  Even this days the guy can be the meanest soab and rule while singin "back in black or wttj", being a cool strong f...er on songs like "cd or seeker",  .., being a delicate soft inlover on "nr, patience"  bein a rocknroller b..ass on stuff like nightrain or s.to.thrill,   .  diferent soft/hard/nice/kick..ss on stuff like til or lald..

And if u want discuss perhaps 93 axl..  NO CONTEST.

So you discount all the horrible "vocal" performances from Axl during his career - even from back in his prime days?

Axl's vocals have always been inconsistent live. Go back and listen to 91-93 performances on YouTube. Some of them are cringeworthy.

Was the effort, energy and spirit there? Yes. At level 10.  But did he often also sound like a dying cat or like a guy with bronchitis? Unfortunately yes.

In terms of just pure vocals, even a guy like Sebastian Bach blows Axl out of the water.

Lots of singers can sing a multitude of different styles. Even that Aaron Lewis guy did a tour awhile back where he played nothing but covers - ranging from metal to rock to pure pop. And he sounded great doing everything from GnR to Four Non-Blonds.

Axl Rose is my favorite rock singer of all time. Hands down. But best singer or frontman of all time? That's just a silly claim for anybody to make.

  11. Rock frontman? Definitely one of the best.

Best singer - that's a joke. Not even in the discussion.

Best rock singer - not even top ten. His vocals have always been up and down. Even back in his prime his vocals were often not that great.

Best frontman? You can safely throw him in the top 50 discussion.

Best ROCK frontman - that's the only legit conversation.  Axl had the talent and potential to end his career as #1. And for a 4-5 year period he was in the goat debate. But lack of material and inconsistent vocal performances have really dampened his career in terms of individual rankings.

But is he YOUR favorite singer or frontman of all time? That's all that should really matter to you.

In fact, most people don't wanna date every fucker, that's kinda the whole thing of finding someone.  I think it's a load of bollocks personally, people just over-think this shit and make to much of it.  Finding someone, finding 'love', that shits as natural as...taking a slash.  It's almost like one of lifes granteds, if you put yourself out there, get in amongst people and talk etc etc, its something that happens naturally and it's not something worth obsessing over or dedicating your life to the pursuit of.  Dedicate your life to the pursuit of bettering yourself or fulfilling a greater ambition and i guarantee that other shit'll happen naturally.

    Amen.

Maybe the most accurate post you've ever shared with us.

Yes the same basic setlist. They added Double Talkin' Jive into the setlist, they brought back Sorry which hasn't been played since 2012.

At first it was fun to see Slash playing these songs I'm not gonna lie, but from Axl's pov it must be extremely boring. You can say that there is not much in their back catalogue worth playing, I mean at least without Izzy. They also tried to invite Steven Adler for a couple of shows but he declined because he doesn't want to be forced to play just two songs anymore, but Angus and Angry Anderson performed at one of these shows playing covers like Nice Boys and Whole Lotta Rosie. That's what we are looking at in the future, few guests here and there.

A million dollars in the bank for every 2.5 hour show can heal a lot of boredom issues.

Remember that interview from back in the day where Axl said he would hate to become a band that didn't create new music and just released on their old hits? I miss that guy.

Yes it's completely untrue. There are lots of medications that cause weight gain. Gosh with all the singers dying in the past year you'd think everyone would be greatful that he's still alive.

Obviously all GnR fans are happy that Axl is still alive. Did somebody on here say they wish he was dead?

I think some people think it's funny that others constantly make excuses any time something negative is associated to Axl. Bad performance - he must have a cold. Not in shape - it's the medicines fault.

Some people see Axl as an actual God who does no wrong. It's s weird phenomenon. Just because a guy is an amazing frontman doesn't automatically mean he is an amazing human.

Well here's the deal. There's a small convenience store about a mile from my house that I go to frequently. Not too long ago a new girl started working there and long story short I think she's cute and I'm thinking about asking her out. She seems kind of shy and we haven't talked much but when I come into the store I've noticed her looking at me and smiling a lot.

Now here's the interesting thing.... I've never asked anyone out. I've had relationships but they sort of just fell into place. I really want to ask her out but I don't want to look like a creep either. It's a small town and if I embarass the hell out of myself I still need to go to that store.

    So, what do I do?

Should I just not ask her out? Do I just compliment her and she what she says? Guys, how would you do it? Or girls, how would you feel if you worked in retail and got asked out by a customer?

Why would you be embarrassed by asking her out?

Ask her if she wants to go see a movie or grab lunch or go for a walk  sometime.

If she says yes - awesome. If she says no - you are no worse off than you are now. Actually better off as you can stop thinking about her and move on to somebody else.

Who cares if she says no. Nothing to be embarrassed by. Not everybody wants to date everybody who asks them.
