    It's disgusting.

You people would be losing your minds if the situation was reversed.

If Hillary had won the election and some random band brought a doll of her on stage and beat the shit out of it...nobody would be saying how awesome it was.

There would be nothing but posts about how violent and evil republicans were. How classless it was.

Or if an Obama doll was brought on stage and destroyed. Nobody would be saying how awesome it was.

Applauding simulated violence against the president of the United States. While complaining that Trump and his followers are spreading hate and negativity.

    This is some sick stuff.

45 "likes"....Mods, can I trade those in to lose one warning point!

Because GNR fans can never be 100% satisfied.

    Not necessarily true!

Release three albums on iTunes in time for Christmas. CD2, CD3 and remix album. Clear out the vault.

Release regrouping album in early 2017. Hopefully Izzy will write a couple songs with them.

Summer of 2017, release an ACDC album with Axl in vocals.

Do that an I will retire from the forums and be the happiest GnR fan in the world. 100% happy.

I won't care if they then go back into cash-making-mode by bastardizing the GnR name on every product imaginable ala Kiss. Watches, pictures books, action figures, video games, caskets, etc.

They missed the most important things...

    1. Write a new song
    2. Play said new song during the gigs

    That is all.

    This times 1,000.

Except I would go a little further.

These guys could easily work out three songs together. They are spending months and months on the road.

Let Duff and Slash pick the three remaining CD2 songs they like the best. General, checkmate, Soulmonster - whatever they might be.

Incorporate those six songs into the setlist. Rotate two of them into every show.

    ****

And yes. More Izzy and Adler. Less instrumentals and covers. And mix up the set list with some lessor played songs.

Axl,Slash and Duff are still going to split 2 million bucks a show.

Why not show the fans you've got some creativity left and that this isn't just a paint-by-numbers tour to fill the retirement accounts?

Come on, man! I wasn't really calling you a name it's what Napoleon Dynamite says! You seriously haven't seen that movie? I was only teasing, sorry.

I guess I just think it's pretty lighthearted compared to what Trump does. It's a goofy pinata at a rock concert and you're escalating it into a hate crime that somehow makes all democrats hypocrites despite this just being an act of a single rock band.

Ya - you are probably right. No worries bruh - I shouldn't have fired off so quickly.

In the overall scheme of things it's not that big of a deal and I shouldn't paint millions of people with a single brush. My bad.

I suppose it's fitting of Axl in 2016. He went from being the rebel and rule breaking rock star to now being a rich old dude who supports the mainstream candidate.

Lol - I tried twice but couldn't make it through that movie. I know a lot of people love it though.

If you want to know why that horrible album was delayed, here is why,

Rather than blaming Ezrin, Baker, Iovine, the tea lady, (etc) why not blame the source of the problem: Axl Rose himself?

    Lol.

Axl was just taking a mental vacation from the tunes to let them age and breath a bit. As he wanted to make sure the songs were perfect. So as they wouldn't damage his and GnR's legacy. Conversely, he must have also felt that having a revolving door of musicians join (and quit or be fired) GnR would be a positive thing for the band's legacy. The more musicians involves the better.

And he kept those studios rented and equipment rented for one simple reason. Axl is a humanitarian and he wanted to do his part financially to make all those workers/companies made a living. He paid out those millions because of his huge heart.

You assume Axls not releasing material is his striving for perfection for the sake of guns legacy. I think the weight of expectation & fear of not living up to what he once was is all it is. Axls Ego was & still is the problem, it just manifests it self in slightly different ways now days.

Unfortunately you are probably closer to the truth than Rov is.

But what if you think you've built something great, the only thing anyone is gonna remember you by, and for some people that's important.

The recorded legacy of Gn'R seems so important to Axl, that he is too careful about not fuckin' with it by releasing a dud.

It seems illogical, but artists are not known for it really. Axl has a serious problem of letting it go if he's not absolutely sure it passes all of his artistic tests and even then it has to have a chance to succeed or at least be accepted.

Your logical examples are irrelevant cause I think Axl's top priority as an artist is first to take as much time as needed to have something he's proud of as a Guns album, find the ideal way to release it, and only then actually release it.

Rolling Stones have released over 40 albums. A lot of them were duds. Some have zero songs played live. Yet they are generally considered to be the best rock band of all time.

In the music world your legacy is defined by your hits abd successes. Not by your failures.

Have you seen the interview where   Axl says he would hate to become an artist who just plays his hits. That doesn't quite lineup with how you romanticize his "choosing" or his reasons for not sharing the three or four albums of material he has in the can.

The truth is that nobody on here knows why he doesn't want to share his music.   It's all just speculation. You paint him in a great light. But you do know you are just guessing and could be 100% wrong.

I miss the Axl who said fuck the industry norm. Let's release 150 minutes of music on two albums at the same time. The guy who released 50 songs in a four year period.

That dude tried to sculpt his legacy by attempting to kick our ass with amazing music. He didn't sit on tens of songs for a decade at a time trying to make sure all the signs were lined up perfectly.

  7. Do you remember when you lost your virginity?

Do you remember the best sex you ever had?

Do you remember the 107th time you had sex? No? So because the 107th time wasn't as amazing and memorable as the first time you got some trim...and it wasn't as fantastic and perfect as the "best" time...does that mean you aren't ever going to have sex again?

Every album doesn't have to be the best album of your career. It's just rock and roll. Create music and let your fans enjoy it. That's it

Acts need to release new music or they become walking museum pieces and whores, and in fact, rather inherit the fanbase they deserve. If your fans are lazy casuals slipping money in your underpants to ''play Jungle dude'', it is because you yourself are a lazy act who panders to the largest denominator. The true greats do not operate as such - Neil, Bob, Prince, Bowie - and their fanbases have far more curiosity in the novelty of invention.

So glad I grew up in an era when bands released a new album EVERY year. It was a glorious time to be a music fan.

Funny enough the sentence "I wish my favorite band would stop releasing music. They need to worry about their legacy" was never spoken. Not one time in 20 years.

More Buckethead, a better mix, and no Frank or Bumble is indeed an alluring prospect.

That said, I think the Beavan album would be the greatest approximation to classic GNR.

    I'll take both.

It makes me sad to think what could have been.

But they were both cunts. They've disrupted the natural process of recording Chinese. Ezrin probably damaged Axl's confidence, RTB wasted time with no good reason, and the label said it wasn't good enough multiple times.

I don't think that helped at all. The situation was already complicated and Axl is insecure enough as it is. So it's not relevant what Ezrin and RTB did outside of fuckin' with Chinese.

Can't tell if serious or joking.

All bands deal with producers who try and push them to do better work. In your view Axl can't handle it...even tho every other singer in the world can?

We all know that you defend Axl at the highest level. Which is cool. But you have to factor in that a lot of this was Axl's fault. Otherwise a relevant discussion can't really be had. The main reason CD took over a decade and ten million dollars is because of Axl Rose. That's #1. Your other things happened, but fall lower on the list

If a producer says "you've only got three good songs" and that is enough to crush Axl's spirit, then how good could those 10 other songs have been?

The most likely and logical scenario is that Axl didn't turn in songs on the SCOM and Nov Rain level. Because he would have fought to keep them alive. But instead turned in several songs in the Shacklers and Scraped mode and the producer just gave him an honest answer.

On a side note - when we're the "multiple" times the label rejected the album?

They don't need to release a great album, they just need to release a good album.

    Home run!

And isn't that what people are saying? I haven't seen anybody claim that they thought GnR would beat or compete with appetite level success.

Nobody is expecting an album with anther Jungle, SCOM and November Rain.

But a album with lower tier songs like Yesterday's, Patience, Nightrain, Perfect Crime, Rocketqueen, Better, Catcher, SOD and Twat?

    Yes please.

I doubt the boys are trying to make the best rock album of all time. They should just be trying to make a great rock album.

    *******

Did somebody say that if Illusions would have came out first that they wouldn't have been as successful as they were. Or if they came today it wouldn't do much?

Imo an album with You Could Be Mine, November Rain, Don't Cry, Estranged, Civil War, Yesterday's and the two two covers would have been huge. In 1987 or in 2017.

Nov Rain has like 500,000,000 views on YouTube and is the highest viewed video by a "band."

Yeah, we don't disagree there either, but "the kids" or any serious music critic would likely not give two fucks about it.

My point was to be seen as relevant in 2016, they have to experiment and re-invent the formula, otherwise they're just like all the other oldies bands.

And IMO they should have capitalized on the buzz they are receiving for the reunion and your.

Imagine if the week before the regrouping announcement came out ads and billboards started popping up. Maybe a blank album cover that just said "we're back" and then a tiny GnR logo in the corner. Something simple like that.

Then they dropped a new GnR album - classic lineup - the week after the Troubadour show.

Just from excitement curiosity that album debuts #1 and quickly goes platinum.

But the shine is going to wear off if they don't release anything for two years. Look at the concert topics on here. They were 50-60 pages long. Last week I looked and two in a row were like 7 pages.

Slash and Duff back. Troubadour. Coachella. Fronting AC/DC. Axl's name was everywhere. Perfect time to drop an album.

Two years from now? Not so much.

Kirk Hammett called GnR a 'Nostalgia Act'
GnR cannot let this insolence stand!!
    New album please fellas!! :headbang:

    Kirk was right.

Maybe that's why it's frustrating as a fan. We know that Axl once said he would HATE to become an artist that just played his hits. And we know that Axl has the talent and skill to release music that would do extremely well in the rock world.

Heck, Axl could easily have three albums hit number one on the rock charts in the next year. Release a GnR record, an ACDC record and then his solo album (CD2).

They would sell millions. They would have mainstream success. His fans would love it. Seems like a win-win for everybody.

If only Axl had the same attitude about new music as he did 1986-1993 period.

Is there a thoroughly unrepentant - 'the reunion is perfect, Frank/Fortus are better than Adler/Izzy, I love Melissa, the setlist is perfect and I want it to remain completely static, I do not want a new album but want nostalgia tours indefinitely'' - fan, outside Modano perhaps and the confines of certain other fan fora of a censorial persuasion?

My point is that, even it (the reunion's) keenest supporters have to produce a number of caveats to their admiration, basically highlighting how superior it could have all been.

Great post and you nailed it.

It's silly for people to get angry if people have a different opinion than them. And silly to carry grudges against other posters.

Thankfully most posters are like you. They can talk about the good and the bad, without being offended or having their feelings hurt.

Check your PMs, I've got a funny story to tell you.

It's been pissing and moaning from the start.

Axl and Slash (with Duff) reunite, which seemed unthinkable. Soon enough it's complaining that Izzy and Steven aren't there, without knowing why. Steven is involved and then he's not involved enough. Izzy wanted more money than he was offered, then everyone is bad but Izzy. The set list doesn't change to appease the people watching every show through cell phones, and that's bad. Now they're touring another part of the world, and that's bad, because, basically, once they played the show you went to, they're supposed to stop touring and work on a new album (with Steven and Izzy) because that's what you want next. The last year has been fans being given something great followed by fans complaining that they want that plus something else.

    Lol.

So to paraphrase a Slash quote, we should all just shut up and take whatever we get.

You are combining viewpoints of different people and acting like they represent one voice.  SOME people wanted Izzy back. SOME people wanted Adler. SOME want to music. You are acting like 90% of the fan base are saying the exact same thing. That's simply not the case. Different people want different things.

This is an open forum. We live in America where people are allowed to share our opinions. And people are allowed to have a different opinion than you. You aren't God. You don't own this site. You aren't the boss. Don't you realize you are adding to the negativity and complaining that you are complaining about? Why is it Ok for you to "whine and moan" constantly about other posters?

I want new music from my favorite singer. I'm bored with him basically touring the same set-list for the past 16 years. You want to look at YouTube videos of him singing SCOM for the 384th time. I would prefer to hear The General. To each his own.

And lol. Only on a GnR forum would people think their favorite artist NOT releasing music is a thing to be happy about. Funny.

TL/DR - people have different opinions than you. And that's OK. If you want people to stay positive, then you should stay positive too. ?
