Who says fans are glad we don't have more albums? We all wish we could have more albums. But it is not up to us. We can't force them at gun point to make albums. And just moaning 24/7 in a forum is not gonna get us a new album either

You have wasted and Kk just in this topic. Then you have a couple people justifying Axl's decisions to not share his music.

And nobody is suggestion fans using gun violence.

And who is in the forum moaning 24/7? I post on this forum 2-3 times a week at most. And maybe 10% of my posts are about Axl not wanting to share his music. So for me it's maybe 5 minutes a week total.

Which posters are spending 24/7 talking (or moaning - your word) about it? This topic is specifically about Axl's small catalog. Do you feel people shouldn't post in it?

Who is "they"? hated Slash? what kind of Guns fan hates Slash? please clarify. On the off chance you mean me, please show me where I've said or insinuated I hate Slash.

Have you read the forums over the last decade?

This revisionist history that Slash was a beloved guy on the forums is pretty laughable.

I am always up for a sensible GnR debate. But it gets pretty silly - and really nothing but a time waste - when we start debating things like how the majority of posters talked about Slash during the last decade OR posters claiming GnR have actually released 18 albums OR praising Axl for not releasing music.

It's like somebody wanting to discuss football with you. And their stance is that Joe Montana and Tom Brady both suck and that the Cleveland Browns are the best run franchise. Where do you even go from there?

It's not just CD2 though. What is truly alarming about his internet behavior and posts in general, is that he seems to peacefully accept and live with Axl's brutally tiny musical output and even enjoys what he got! Something is very wrong here. Frankly, I'm sorry for him, it's sad.

So the real real crux here is whether or not people are happy or satisfied with how Axl has ran GnR for the last 20 years.

All of us can agree that Appetite/Lies/Illusions were amazing. And we all enjoy those albums to the 79th degree. And a portion of us love CD. I still listen to parts of it a couple times a week.

The big difference is guys like Wasted and a few others are actually PRAISING Axl for not sharing his music with his fans. Music that he (or his people) have continually talked about being finished and that he was going to share with his fans.

Whereas other diehard fans of Axl wish he would keep his word and share all that music with his fans.

Axl Rose - one album in the last 20 years.

Me - that sucks. Axl is my favorite singer. I love hearing new music from my favorite artists. I will gladly  pay $16 for a new Axl Rose album - even if it was once a year for twenty years.

Wasted - I admire Axl for not releasing more music. I respect him for not trying to milk his fans for money by releasing albums.

I love GnR music. Even the deep cuts and not the hits, I understand that some fans just like the hits. I guess the final difference between me and a lot of fans on here is that I have faith in Axl's talent and ability to crest quality music. By saying quality over quantity about a guy with one album in twenty years, people are saying they don't think Axl albums would be "quality." I respectfully disagree. If we had Cd2 and CD3 in our hands, I have no doubt they would be quality albums and have some really great music on them.

Beaten up house wife syndrome. No matter how much he knocks her around, she returns and even finds things to praise about him.

Sadly - you aren't joking.  Your description is spot on.

Saying that you are glad your favorite artist rarely releases music. They really can't feel this way. And if Axl suddenly started opening his vault and releasing tons of music....would these same posters be complaining and bashing him for it?

No. They would praise him for being fan friendly and caring about his fans.

Lol. Kind of how they hated Slash for the last 20 years. But when he rejoined GnR then all of a sudden it was nothing but positive statements about him. And claims that they never trash talked him. It's been hilarious to watch.

Yeah but a lot of people were not even born when those songs became hits at the time the original artists release them. Both of them became MTV hits also thanks to GN'R. LALD, the video and KOHD, The Ritz show. In my case I bothered to listen to the originals. And I was like meh. That's not the case when I listen to the GN'R versions

But that's just personal preference. Go to a Dylan board or a McCartney board and whose versions do they choose?

This is a GnR forum. So obviously most people here will pick the GnR cover versions.

But that really has nothing - literally nothing - to do in terms of judging whether or not GnR has a small catalog or not.

  6. Only on this forum do people praise and even say they prefer  their favorite band only to have a few albums.

You guys must have been really dissapointed when GnR released the Illusions. Two 70 minutes albums released at once....You complained to all your friends and wrote letter to Hit Parader bashing GnR for not being more selective. Right?

You are also insinuating that Axl isn't talented enough to create quality music without Izzy/Slash and Duff. That's a wild thing to say about your idol (quality over quantity argument)

It really does just blow the mind. Rock fans saying it's better for their  favorite bands to not create and share their music on a regular basis. I guess you guys are glad you weren't alive in the 70s and 80s. Band use to share music with their fans on a yearly basis. Gasp - sometimes bands released two albums per year. Oddly enough - fans loved it and never complained.

Its a weird world we live in today. Fans being happy their favorite band doesn't release music. I will never understand that way of thinking.

Personally I would kill to own 15 GnR or Axl Rose albums. Even if only 4-5 of them were classics and the other 10 ranged from being average to really great.

Wasted has convinced me. GNR has released 27 albums. 14 of them are double albums. Oh My God on End of Days OST counts as an EP if you compare to Led Zepp songs featured on OSTs.

The best from the 27 albums are the CD remixes and CD2, being unreleased and not existing in any form doesn't matter. It's Queen + NIN + Elton John in his glam hard rock era.

What's funny is that he also said he respects Axl for NOT releasing more music that would just be cash grabs targeting his fans.

    Put those two points together.

He is glad GnR had a small catalog...while he continually tries to make their catolog seem larger than it actually is.

God, you're such a bunch of divs. GNR have five albums, not six, not four and certainly not eight.

    AFD - 1 album

    UYI1 -1 album

    UYI 2 - 1 album

    TSI - 1 album

    Chinese - 1 album

    A few points to consider:

    1. Just because an album spans multiple vinyls, it doesn't make it a double album. UYI 1 and 2 were released in the 90s when the standard format for albums was a CD. They released TWO albums of new material on the same day. By Wasted's logic, almost every album released post-1991 would be considered a double album

    2. Lies is an EP. If it were eight new tracks recorded between AFD and UYI then that'd be different, but it's not. It's two covers, one alt version, a demo and three original tracks.

    3. TSI counts as an album. It doesn't matter if you think it's shit, it's still 12-13 new recordings by GNR. Loads of artists put out cover albums, there's no point in not including it just to try and make GNR look even worse.

    4. Live albums don't count as studio albums and shouldn't be counted in this discussion, nor should Greatest Hits.

    5. CD should count as a GNR album as it features many common threads from past GNR albums (same band name, same singer, same piano player, songwriting contributions from both Axl and Paul Tobias - a partnership that dates back to Shadow of Your Love).

    This.

    Over a 30 year period.

Some amazing top notch quality work. But an extremely small catalog.

Axl dominated the rock world from 88-92.

But in all reality Axl Rose was just a fictional character created by a kid from the streets - with a monster voice - named Billy.

I wish Bill realized that his millions of fans just want to hear the music he creates. Every song doesn't have to compete with Stairway to Heaven. Every album doesn't have to try and be the greatest rock album in history.

Fans just want to hear anything that Bill creates. Stephanie/woe is me ballads. Hard rockers. Mid tempo songs. Piano ballads. Epics. Industrial.

No matter what he releases, most of us will purchase it.....and enjoy the listening experience.

    Uggg.

Thank you for making my point stronger though.

A couple posters keep justifying Axl's lack of material by comparing them to bands that stopped releasing music because key members died. With hasn't happened with Axl.

So yes. AcDC lost their singer. And STILL destroy GnR in terms of albums released. That just makes Axl look even lazier or that he doesn't really care about his fans.

Major songwriters have left the band. Izzy and Slash (riff writer mostly and his sound was a huge part of Gn'R)

Axl had to rebuild Guns with new players. And when I said Gn'R wasn't active what I meant that when it imploded, Axl's ass got sued left and right, and when he finished the album in 1999 (took him only 2 years and he wanted to mix) label didn't think it was good enough. RTB made him record shit twice. Tommy has talked about this.

So you see... it wasn't like every other band. It was Gn'R and Axl had a lot to live up to.

Point taken. But your rhythm guitar player, who was a supporting writer, quiting the band is a little different than your lead singer dying. If Axl had died, the I think yours and Wasted point would be a little more relevant.

I think most of us give Axl a bowl of lettuce for the original band breaking up. He had to overcome that and rebuild a new band. Noted.

He gets no quarter for trying to "live up to the GnR name or legacy" - that's all on him. He didn't have to keep the name GnR. He chose that route. The Axl Rose Band would still have had labels sucking his cock to try and sign his band. Slash, Duff, Izzy, Sorum, etc - they all moved on with new bands. Duff didn't go out as Duff's Guns n Roses. He went out as Loaded and Velvet Revolver.

Heck. David Lee Roth got fired form VH and put out two great solo albums.

Axl chose to keep the name GnR  for all the benefits it afforded him. So he doesn't also get to count that name as a burden that hampered him. It's like a guy winning the lotto for 100 million and then crying because he had to pay 30 million dollars in taxes.

Axl needed the GnR name as a crutch because he thought he couldn't succeed without it. Which is sad, as 99% of his fans think he easily would have succeed on his own.

So let's give him time off to heal with Yoda and all that crap. That's understandable.

The comeback starts in 1999. Them until today - 17 years - Axl has released one album. Whether he turned in albums that weren't good enough, that got rejected, he had writers block, he wanted to spend 10 years adding layers to one song, a revolving door of musicians - whatever the reasons - Axl has released one album in the last 17 years.

Axl could have went to the label and said "you rejected these songs , you still get the next GnR album, can I release them under my own name?" And the label would have said Go For It.

Bottom line - If Axl wanted to share more music with his fans, he easily could have. He chose not to. And his fans are the losers because of it.

You could equally apply that logic to Chinese Democracy. Many would say, ''post Slash. You must be joking. Fuck that shit...''.

Anyhow, this conversation is madness. Wasted there is pulling fictional GN'R discographies (''8 records'') out of his bumhole. You Rov are using bands who were only together for five years because their leading man died to justify GN'R's minuscule discography. Madness.

That's basically what I was about to post. Thank you.

Let's compare GnR's discography to bands that didn't have main members die.

Stones. Aerosmith. Bon Jovi. Acdc. Metallica. How does Axl's catalog compare to those bands?

You want to throw in Faith No More? Lol - seriously? Ok, I will add LA Guns then.

    ******

And then Wasted later said he respected Axl for NOT releasing albums. I guess we are lost opposites in that regard. I personally LOVE it when my favorite bands share music with their fans.

I've never once in my entire life looked back at a band I loved and said "boy, I sure wish they would have stopped releasing music. The Rolling Stones are great but I sure wish they would have only released five albums. Damn them for  those other 40 albums."

Faith No More released 6 studio albums during their active period 1985-1999. They disbanded, got back together in 2009 and have released 1 studio album since then.

Mike Patton has released over 20 studio albums in various bands and collaborations during the FNM period until now, plus dozens and dozens of other appearances and projects

How many solo albums did Axl release in between SI and CD?

Zepp, Doors, Sex Pistols, Faith No More, Nirvana aren't great?

Nobody ever said that did they? Except for faith no more. They are extremely popular on GnR sites for some reason. But they are more of a personal taste thing.

Why didn't the other bands release more albums?

Nirvanna - lead singer shot himself.

Doors - lead singer died earlier in their career.

    Zepp - drummer died.

Notice a trend there? Bands stopping relaxing music because key members died. Did somebody die in GnR?

  13. 15 hours ago, Rovim said:

He wasn't active for long periods of time.

    Honest question.

When you define how long other band's careers are do you factor in years they weren't active? For example - in 1975, 1979 and 1984 (making up year) the Rolling Stones didn't tour or release an album. So for you - those years would be deducted from the total number of years the Stones have been a band? I only ask as I've never heard anybody define the career of a band by the method you use with GnR.

No band is active 24/7 365. But Ive never seen people dissect a band's "career" by subtracting random years when they didn't release music or tour.

    15 hours ago, wasted said:

The myth is you need 20 albums to be a good band.

I kind of respect them for not milking the fans with mediocre remake albums. If they didn't have anything good they didn't release it.

I like you man. But sometimes you try too hard.

    What I'm implying? lol

You mean why did CNN alter Esteban Santiago to appear more white?

Lol - this is the wrong forum to point that out. People on here aren't going to agree that certain networks have an extreme left view. I'm actually surprised nobody has somehow tied this to trump.

    ******

What a terrible tragedy. The real question is what can be done to stop these things from happening.

People are always saying that doctors over medicate and give out drugs too quickly and easily. Now people on here are saying doctors aren't willing to give out drugs and medication?

People always claim that TSA is too intrusive and a waste of time ....now people are saying that they aren't checking thoroughly enough? Go to any long line at an airport and 90% of the people will complain about the wait.

Maybe before social media people felt the same way and the world was divided - but they just shared it with friends instead of having a large platform to shout out their outrage.

Point that it might be more effective and useful of people could stop constantly shouting out their outrage and use their effort and energy to try and come up with solutions.

Instead of telling us that Trump is the devil, offer some suggestions of what we can do to fix the problems of our country.

Ok. You think TSA sucks. Doctors sucks. Great. Now how can we fix these issues??? What can we do - what should our leaders do? What can you and I do?

I just think it would be more productive to focus on solutions  rather than just bashing the people we don't like.

  15. The big issue a lot of normal thinking people have with this disgusting incident is the double standard in which the liberals, social media warriors and the Lena dunhams and Rosie Odonnels are reacting to it. And by "normal thinking" I mean people who are able to look at at issue and form an opinion without being 100% tied to a political party.

If the colors were reversed and it was "f*ck Hilary or Obama" then the outrage would be tied directly to Donald Trump and how he and his supporters have turned the US into a vile, hateful place where it isn't  safe to leave your house. Every Hollywood celebrity would be crucifying Trump and republicans.

Heck. Just look at all the confirmed cases of young liberal millenials claiming to be attacked by trump supporters - then later claiming they made up their story.

If those people are going to hold Trump and republicans responsible for specific crimes...,,then why, when wouldn't this crime be tied to Obama and democrats?

Both sides obviously agree this was a horrific act. "F*ck WHITE people" and "f*ck Trump".....but it isn't a hate crime, nothing racist about it, and it had nothing to do with politics? Lol - ok. This double standard is one of the reasons Hillary lost. Every time Lena Dunham posts about Trump being the Devil followed by saying she molested her sister and she wishes she would have an abortion ....the average joe looks at that and says "I need to vote for the opposite of who she votes for."

A good box set isn't just 90% comprised of material already out there for purchase. I already own every GnR album. I don't need to buy them all again.

New album - written by current band

    CD2 and cd3

    acoustic/piano album

old unreleased songs - studio quality versions of omg, just another Sunday, etc

    live DVD

six hour documentary. Featuring the Illusions footage. The CD era. And an hour about the regrouping.

Thats a real box set worthy of a $100 bill.

That's nonsense. People all over the world are expecting to hear Slash and Duff on the next potential new album. This will only bring more confusion into millions of fans as to where those songs stand and who's playing those. Imagine the madness Chinese Democracy gathered when released, and bring that to eleven. Almost suicidal.

You can't clear out the vault with forty songs out of nowhere and not even play them live. Those songs might be as important as any guns n' roses song in Axl's mind. That's a enormous baggage to carry. I'd rather wait a few more years and have a bunch of the vault properly delivered with or without Slash.

I'm expecting a new album and a new tour. Not a scrapped boxset unless Guns N' Roses has finally been put to rest. Axl is forging ahead with Slash and Duff and his mysterious vault in whole new horizon. Well I'm only hoping.

    We can agree to disagree.

Those millions of fans have access to the Internet and within 39 seconds can see who played on what songs. Lol - suicidal? It's just a rock and roll record.

I would love for my favorite singer to clean out his vault and share music that he's been talking about for a decade.

You would rather wait - and trust - Axl, with one album in the last 25 years, to write, record and release an album from scratch.

Not sure why both are wishes wouldn't work though. You don't expect a new album for a couple years. Why not a box set tomorrow and a new album by the current band in two years?

I wish they'd just do an epic 6-disc CD boxset really. It would be interesting too what songs were created when and with who and how they've evolved over time. Fill it with demo's for released songs and also all the unreleased material. There's supposed to be 2 more albums worth of songs. They could include a little book covering the history of the songs. You could have it span 1998-2008.

I also still feel it should be called Chinese Leftovers and be packaged as:

    chinese_take_out_carton.gif

This is the most fan friendly thing that Axl could do. Just totally clear out the vault.

That's a huge Thank You to the fans that have supported Axl since the 80s.

And then allows Axl to move foreword with Slash/Duff without any baggage to carry with him.

What makes GNR so special that they are above making money?

I didn't realize that these were a bunch of starving artists standing up against capitalism.

I also didn't realize it was illegal to release a greatest hits album if you don't have 5.72 albums worth of material with at least 98.83 percent being original material.

Here's a hint, greatest hits and best of albums aren't aimed at hardcore fans browsing GNR forums at 12:28 eastern standard time. They are aimed at casual fans, soccer moms, 14 year olds who weren't alive when Guns N Roses was cool, and people who haven't figured out that you can just torrent music.

The GNR GH album was one of the most positive moves made for the band whether in the last 15 years. The release of that album combined with VR being in the mainstream at the time and WTTJ being the main song of San Andreas likely bought GNR a whole new segment of fans and helped rejuvenate interest in the band among a certain type of fan.

Anybody who looks at GNR as this super cool rock band who is above  making money is delusional. GNR is a hot topic band. I like their music, but it doesn't change the fact that at this point they are Kiss 2.0 except that Gene Simmons actually puts out CDs and has a daughter I want to bang. The closest thing Axl has to a daughter is his dogs he posts pics of on twitter and I don't really want to bang them.

Seriously, get real guys. "OMG GNR DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH SONGS TO PUT OUT A GREATEST HITS AND MAKE TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS BECAUSE THEY ARE AN UNKNOWN ARTHOUSE PUNK BAND WHO PREACH SOCIALIST ETHICS AND INSTEAD OF SELLING T SHIRTS PROVIDE A COMMUNAL CAN OF SPRAY PAINT SO THAT FANS CAN STENCIL THEIR OWN SECOND HAND SHIRTS WHILE BRINGING A DONATION FOR THE LOCAL FOOD BANK TO THE SHOW AT SOME DUDES BASEMENT BECAUSE THIS BAND DOESNT CARE ENOUGH ABOUT MONEY TO SELL CDS."

    What what?

Except nobody said any of what you are criticizing. You are exaggerating to the 100th degree what people have actually posted.

Why not just stick to what people have actually posted? And why so angry? People are allowed to have a different opinion than you.

Take away your Axl bias and look at the facts.

Wishing your favorite band released music is not a bad thing.

A band with only one album of original material in the last 25 years - who just released a Best Of album (two albums ago) absolutely should be thinking new album instead of another GH.

Of course GnR members should be making a profit. Who said they shouldn't? Who said they were an alt-punk band who should be playing for free?

It's Ok for fans to complain about high ticket prices. I've done very well in life (I'm retired at age 46). But I didn't go see GnR when they came through my area earlier this year. My friend got tickets and invited us. But they were in the $350 range. I saw GnR a few years ago and had great seats for $90. I wasn't going to pay almost $1,100 (wife and son) to go see a rock concert. By any band.

It's cool that you have so much passion for a rock band. But the majority of what you posted are extreme exaggerations.  It's also cool to just have a normal discussion  with people, and focus on what they actually said.
