ARC
Her, Leona, Laura White, Diana Vickers, Alexandra, JLS, Journey South, perfect examples of acts with lots of talent that have been on the X factor, with varying levels of success and longevity. All utter crap, along with this years Joe Whatever. Why are people so willing to accept such mediocre television which produces such mediocre, quickly-forgotten 'stars'...? X Factor and other 'talent' contests are just easy, low-cost, short-cut solutions to the problem of filling airtime on a Saturday night. I wish they would come up with some quality original programming and free us from this nightmare of talent shows and 'reality' TV.What's worse is that the (mostly) good-natured people that take part in these shows are being metaphorically whored-out and raped in front of our eyes every week simply to 'shift units', just to make some rich people like that parasite Simon Cowell ever richer. However this 'Killing in the Name' campaign has been almost as nauseating... RATM and X Factor are both part of the same hypocrisy. So, who will get the Xmas number 1 - those 'anti-capitalist' millionaires or that talent show puppet...? What a choice! Aren't we lucky!I'm actually embarrased that I live in this era. I wish I was young in the 60s...So what if Rage have made a living out of their anti-capitalist music? They've stayed true to their beliefs, attended multiple protests and are donating the money they earn from this to Shelter. They had nothing at all to do with this, so it's hardly commendable of them to give the proceeds to a charity. But you're mistaken if you think RATM are not profiting from this. There's probably 5 million people in the UK who had never heard of RATM before and now have. Their sales will increase accordingly, they will receive a nice little Xmas bonus, and then they will go back to their mansions and write more socialist songs about how capitalism oppresses the poor. I just think it is slightly hypocritical for someone to call for US Presidents' to be hung and to burn the American flag at shows all the while getting very rich themselves through one of America's largest corporations, Sony Corp. of America. They are raging against the very machine that puts food on their table and sends their kids to college... Mansin Humanity
Ah, the ever going debate about whether RATM are hypocrites or not.Personally, I think that it's good that they're sacrificing a bit of their principle to get their message out to even more people. If they had spent their entire career going on their principles the entire time, it's safe to say they wouldn't have had the same exposure and success. KoolMonkey
X Factor = UK "American Idol"?Don't quote me on this, but American Idol actually came from the UK in the first place. X Factor used to be called Pop Idol which was where American Idol came from.

I wonder if this could ever happen in the U.S.Man it really could. If we did it then the US could but might be harder now since everyone knows what can happen, groups would be forming on both sides now to try and encourage as many people as they could to buy each single.I am sorry but I think it is a truly awful song. Great move though and a good cause. Glad it got to number 1.It's not a bad song but the main point was it being RATM, raging against the machine of Simon Cowell and his generic pop crap. Glad it got to number 1.How can you not like Killing in the name of? Its fuckin killerrrrI don't like it either.I'm happy RATM won, because of the statement that it sent out, but I don't like the band at all, personally. I fall in the same boat as ARC when it comes to viewing their "messages" and what not. They're the musical equivalents to Michael Moore.Still, happy they beat out X Factor. inthisriver
I don't understand why this an achievement for you people? Do you really care if some old played out song is #1 on the charts over some pop song? Who listens to the radio anyway, especially on Christmas. I just don't get it.
