Street_Of_Dreams
The Flaming Lips have confirmed a theatrical adaptation of their 2002 album 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots' is in the "early stages of production".The band are working on the show with director Des McAnuff and told Billboard.com they expect to start workshopping the production soon.Frontman Wayne Coyne explained that although the show will be based on the 'Yoshimi…' album, it will also feature songs from 1999's 'The Soft Bulletin' and 2006's 'At War With the Mystics' albums."It'll be a big chunk of Flaming Lips music, probably about 30 songs," he said."It's a big deal. It's hokey and wonderful and poignant and powerful. It's really become a perfect combination of my fantastical robot-world vision and [McAnuff's] little, internal, humanistic version of what that music is. I really believe it could work - and luckily I don't have to do much!" Coyne added. The production will not be the band's first foray outside of music - Coyne wrote and directed 2008 science fiction film Christmas On Mars.Meanwhile, the band have also announced plans for various bizarre new music releases this year, including USB drives buried inside life-size skills and a stomp box effects pedal which plays four tracks."Everybody's in the same quagmire now. How do you release music? What would be interesting?" Coyne said."I'd just like to release music all the time and just put it out in all kinds of weird formats and not just collect it until we're ready to put out [an album]."The Flaming Lips are also due to play a number of UK dates this summer, including the Live From Jodrell Bank: Transmission_001 event and the Eden Sessions. To check the availability of Flaming Lips tickets and get all the latest listings, go to NME.COM/TICKETS now, or call 0871 230 1094.http://www.nme.com/news/the-flaming-lips/55871_______________________________________________________Never seen a Flips show but always wanted to, heard they were insane. Black Sabbath
Tried to get into the Flaming Lips before, but couldn't quite do it. Maybe I'll give them another shot and try to check this tour out. Sounds awesome.
