gunsnchalupas
The mix is so dense, there is a lot of stuff that you can't hear. Even in the Village leaks, you can hear a lot of parts that are not reasonable audible in the final mix. The fact that you can hear the bass guitar completely changes the songs. I assume the reason that it is so difficult to hear in the final mix is that Axl wanted the drums to have so much presence that the bass was EQ'd/mixed in a way that gives it very little audible presence vs the drums. You can find the Rockband Stems online. Each stem is broken up into a multiple files for drums, one file each for bass, guitar, and vocals, and then a file for backing arrangements like orchestras or synths called "song". If you want to hear stuff even more clearly, you can load the files into a free program like Audacity and split the stereo track into two mono tracks. It is also very easy to split audio tracks now, this wasn't around at the time of the Rockband stems. There are websites where you can upload an audio file and it will split the instrument tracks for you. They won't always sound the best, but for "educational" purposes where you want to hear different things buried in the mix, it won't be that bad. There are programs that can do it better, but they require a more powerful computer and some research to learn how to use. With the websites, it's as simple as clicking a few buttons.
