i went with gene. i've loved kiss to death (second to gn'r) for years now, and gene has always been my favorite.

however...

when i was young (single digit years... early 80s), my older brother was a kiss fan who still had his vinyl collection of the makeup era... i will say that back then, i fucking HATED kiss because he used to hold the solo records up to his face (mainly gene and peter's) and make scary noises... i'd shit my pants.

then years later, i came to love them with a passion

Null, the vote has to be "both" as the Paul/Gene have both alway been the masterminds behind the band and have stayed together to keep the ship afloat through all the good and many bad years. Without either one, the band couldn't have continued to legitimately exist, or at least no one would've cared.

IMO it is very similar to GNR whereby as long as Axl and Slash would've stayed together, the general public would've accepted the band as legit GNR. But without either one(Axl or Slash) it just isn't, name legalities aside. Both guys are that critical, just like Gene and Paul to KISS...
