Chris Squire too.But rock bassists really aren't brilliant compared to other genresTrue, there has defantly been some standouts though. All of the bassists mentioned though have been in rock bands that are experimental.Oh and holy shit, how could i forgotJames JamersonHe is the king of bass, while not Rock though. Nightrain_Kid
Hes not the most technical bassist ever, infact hes probaly nowhere near the top but no one wrote better basslines than paul mccartney, altho my fav would be john paul jones just listen to the lemon song! john deacon wrote some great basslines aswell

The Volitan
Jack Bruce and Cliff Burton. It really is a shame that people don't give Jack Bruce enough credit. He was a great bassist who didn't sit in the background like and idiot, he played like it was a lead instrument. Watch the Crossroads live vid. His plucking fingers move incredibly fast. If you're a bassist and you don't like Jack Bruce, you should be punched.listen to Dazed and ConfusedWhy??? he's doing almost the exactly the same thing as Page in that song. Guest Ohdistortedsmile1789
3 pages and NO MENTION of Jaco Pastorius, what the fuck? The man was a true revolutionary and it would be reasonable to call him the equivalent of Hendrix on bass. Jaco popularized the slap technique and allowed bass to be played in ways never previously imagined.
