New G'nR - the Motley Crue effect

Original Gunner

Recommended Posts

The show in Finland sold out in 8 minutes so I doubt that people care if it's only Axl...

A lot of people who bought tickets are going to be disappointed when they'll find out what GNR is in 2006.

In Finland, they've been promoting the show on TV with footage of the original band

Why is that suprising, did you miss the memo that stated that the original line-up will be playing Download. I'm sure if that is true they will play more than that one date.

WTF - you mean the upcoming shows are being touted as the ORIGINAL GUNS'N'ROSES. How could Axl and the band's management so blatantly LIE to the fans like this! :anger:

I think it was just people at download who said the original group was performing there, not GNR management. As far as I am concerned it will be "new" GNR performing in 2006.

Grimo.

It was actually Ross Halfin who wrote this on his website. He was probably being sarcastic (it sure came off that way). Soon after he posted it the forums went loony toons and he took it down.

It has been obvious that Axl has been in control of GNR since UYI if not b4. As long as the guitar rocks then people will be happy with it. Some may miss Slash but having seen GNR live Slash was not front and center much of the time. He did some light jogging towards the end of shows but nothing too strenuous. So just as many people will be happy to see something different from GNR as those that wish they could hear an 8 minute Slash solo. And Duff covering a punk classic wouldnt do. A Matt Sorum drum solo? Anyone? Hey, come back here! Matt is going to solo, don't go to the bar! What you're leaving? Hey. come back !!!

I have seen Motlry Crue both old and New and I've seen GNR both old and new....I've also seen hundreds of shows of all sorts as i work in the concert industry. Motley Crue were and still are rock N roll badasses.....they have not skipped a beat in the kick ass department. They may even be right back to where they were in the mid 80's if you saw the backstage atmosphere that i saw....This is not to say MC is a better band musically which is obvious they aren't. This isn't to say they sound better live cuz they don't. But the showmanship and antics and the no BS straight ahead rock of their show is where it should be and would be tough to beat. Their doing something right and the fans are eating it up and loving it. GNR unfortunatley did not do the same in 2002.....the numbers don't lie. MC showing up at their shows and giving the fans what they paid to see helps as well. I'm hoping Axl has learned a lesson from 2002 and will return to the stage and do what he is capable of doing and kickass as he has done before and bury MC live..... rock3rock3

Hands down, the worst concert I have ever been to was in 1999, I think. It was right after the Generation Swine album came out. Vince literally couldn't go two songs without taking a breather. He was off pitch, in clothes that were way too small for him. The band was ok, but Vince sucked donkey. I was Soooooooooooo disappointed. So was my wife, who saw them in their heyday and liked them. So, to say that they "have not skipped a beat" means either you don't know what you're talking about or you were not around to see them in those years.

If you're talking about keeping up a rebellious, rock 'n' roll image, Vince Neil was on the Surreal Life and had a show about all of the plastic surgery he did. Real rock n roll rebellion there.

Stop comparing the two. Motley had some good rock tunes, but they're not as deep, diverse, true to rock n roll, or good as GnR

I never did compare MC to 'generation swine era' i said mid '80s....Not once did i say they were better than GNR....in fact i said the opposite. Vince mumbled through most of the lyrics from what i saw and heard but he was their, put on a show and people were thrilled to see the show....the show as in the whole package rocked. I did not hear one negative response except that it was too hot in the building as they they had continuous flames from their stage.

"If you're talking about keeping up a rebellious, rock 'n' roll image, Vince Neil was on the Surreal Life and had a show about all of the plastic surgery he did. Real rock n roll rebellion there." And Axl looks real rebellious in corn rows, botox and an over sized sports jerseys.

The numbers don't lie MC had a a great year at the box office. and to suggest that i..."don't know what you're talking about or you were not around to see them in those years." is plain retarded  . I have seen more shows both as a spectator and as part of my job. than you will ever see. Not bragging its just the reality of my situation. For the record GNR 2002 was the finest show that i have witnessed. Axl sounds great the band sounded great....i was there to witness both the riot in Vancouver and the show in Tacoma so yeah i know of what i speak. Calling it as i see it and GNR are as real a they come.

...and released arguably their best record with John Corabi on vocals

Mötley Crües self-titled record is far from their best. I'd say it's their worst

I agree, Theatre of Pain was always thought of as there worst album but it was beaten by the Self titled.

Motley's best album by far is Dr. Feelgood with Girls 2nd.

Corabi was never Crue, Crue without Vince is like sex without climax :drevil:

its true....

One of my many supporters on the group has asked me to compare what has happened to Motley Crue to that of G'n'R. Now, Crue were huge back in the day and like the five original Gunners, the band was made up of four distinct A-type personalities that the fans instantly related to and loved as a complete UNIT! Now, when it all went tits up in Crue - the band hired a new singer and released arguably their best record with John Corabi on vocals (even Tommy and Nikki acknowledge this). However, the record bombed and the tour went so bad that they had to fund it out of their own pockets and go from arenas to theaters. Now, with only one original gunner left, Axl, the question is, no matter how good CD might turn out to be, will the fans not accept the stand-ins and then some time later demand the original guys to reform as they did with Crue?

As a footnote - the Motley Crue original member tour is third in popularity/box-office to only U2 and Rolling Stones in 2005!

Your post sounds like something you took from a magazine or something! Did you? <_<

Hi Marissa - thanks for the compliment :) I have been asked by a number of Group members if i write for a magazine but alas no - i couldn't take the pay cut. And no, i didn't take it from a magazine although you can check out similar such writings in such publications as Rolling Stone. Take care now! rock3

What fucking 'group' are you talking about? It is certainly not here... all I see is 'the group' shelling your ass like it's the cave Osama Bin Laden is hiding out in. Furthermore, half of what you write does not make sense in quite a literal sense... and the other half is shit you pull out of your ass that is false, misconstrued, completely one sided and totally opinionated points of view that you call facts. I picture a snot nosed, 50cent listening, puss faced piece of WT wearing a wife beater, white Reebok tennis shoes and cut off shorts with an oversized baseball cap on sideways littered with home-made tattoos that say 'Bunky loves Betty' sitting in front of mommy's computer with nothing better to do but make a complete ass out of himself on a GNR fan forum because he flunked out of school.

Magazine writer? Yea, Nickelodeon for kids, maybe. Hooked on Phonics DID NOT work for you.

Now grab the duct tape and go fix the leak in the trailor's roof.

Last time i checked this forum was about G 'N' R kid not me. You seem obsessed, i dunno but fantisizing about what i look and dress like comes across as being a bit... creepy. How about sticking to G 'n' R and the topics raised son - there's a good kid. :rofl-lol:

Ahhh bunky. 'Kid', 'Son'. I bet you walk around like a rap star using that kind of white trash slang when you pick on 10 year olds at the local mall... which probably doesn't amount to anything more than Rite Aid at the corner of your trailor park.

My problem really isn't with you, bunky. Yea, you are one stupid motherfucker based on some of your posts. You also have a problem with attacking other people who substantiate their own opinions on things that you may not agree with. I bet you're a democrat... wait a minute... you probably don't know what that means... score that... you probably didn't understand that either (I crack myself up)... back to my point... it's my job to make you look like the stupid motherfucker you are because there are a lot of other stupid motherfuckers here that may actually take what you say as fact. On top of that, someone has to defend the other stupid motherfuckers when king stupid motherfucker... yea you, bunky... tries to make them sound like a stupid motherfucker.

So, stupid motherfucker, answer my motherfucking question. What group are you talking about, because I don't see too many motherfuckers in this group that think you make any sense? You're the only stupid motherfucker that thinks his motherfucking shit doesn't stink.

So, shit-for-brains (yea, the stupid motherfucker shit was getting old), maybe next time you want to drop on by a GNR forum to BASH them any chance you get, BASH their fans that have a different opinion than yours and to avoid assholes like me, maybe you'll use the search function on the forum when you get better acquainted with mommy's computer and find that the shit you're talking about has been talked about time and time and over and over again by the same old dime-a-dozen, shit-for-brains stupid know-it-all motherfuckers like yourself.

If I were a mod here, I wouldn't delete posts like this. I'd put them in a place called the 'Garbage Can'. A forum completely dedicated to the dime-a-dozen, shit-for-brains stupid know-it-all motherfuckers like yourself, bunky,so you can all go lead happy little internet lives in your own shit storm of repetitive shit, while the folks with an ounce of intelligence can enjoy a clutter and retarded-free web experience here in the Guns N' Roses part of the forum.

But, I'm not a mod.

I'm just the voice of reason.

Can I get an Amen?

I know you wanted to get back on topic Madison but I just had to say, AMEN!

Grimo.

you can replace musicians alot easier than you can replace a vocalist - look at when bruce dickinson left Iron Maiden and Blaze joined people hated it because a different voice means so many things you have to either

  1. have a singer with a different style and lose out on fans that prefere the older style AKA maiden with blaze bayley
  2. choose a carbon copy singer and be slammed for having no new ideas

whereas a new guitarist or drummer can go reletivley unoticed

i for one am looking forward to the new GnR and what they have to offer people just have to keep an open mind

Axl got plastic surgery.... Vince Neil starred in a TV show about his plastic surgery... which one has sold out his Rock N Roll roots? Axl's fashion vs. Vince's willingness to whore himself out to reality TV is also hardly comparable.

No matter how many shows you've seen, the irrefutable fact is that Motley is not where they used to be. Even if the current tour is an improvement, in one fan's eyes, they can't erase the past 10 years of bad music, ruined image and subpar shows.

The Crue in 1999 and the Crue now are two different things. I saw them last year and they definitely got their shit together :shades:

But you are right, they were bad in 99 (that was around the time tommy left right? his drumming is the strongest point of that band). And the Crue does rock, but you are right, they are no GNR. Not even close.

I love the way this kid talks like he's an expert on these bands. I saw Guns in '86 - '88 - '92 and Crue in '91 - '92 and 2005. I met and hung out with Axl and Izzy in '86 and met and hung out with Tommy in '91. The first time you EVER saw G'N'R was the sub standard version in 2002 that didn't even finish the tour and Crue in 1999 when they were at their worst ever. Please tell us what credibility this gives you to lecture the group on the merits of either band? :fuckyou:

why does it even fucking matter? While you and your mullet are stuck in 1989, the rest of us are moving on. Both bands have changed over the years, but is there anything we can do about it? no. If you like the music, great! If you dont, then please do the real fans a favor and fuck off :anger:

"You said you'd seen "MC... old and new" and they "never skipped a beat"...they skipped a few of em in 1999." ......Are you a politician or is ignoring the truth a hobby......i've stated that compared to the mid 80's they have not skipped a beat. If you saw them back in the hey day ('99 is not the hey day) and you saw them last year you would have enjoyed both shows equally as well. The numbers and reviews do not lie and your denials of their success is now getting a bit pathetic.

"Axl got plastic surgery.... Vince Neil starred in a TV show about his plastic surgery... which one has sold out his Rock N Roll roots? Axl's fashion vs. Vince's willingness to whore himself out to reality TV is also hardly comparable."....The only difference is that Axl hasn't whored himself and Vince has. Neither person's approach to plastic surgery is rock n roll.

"No matter how many shows you've seen, the irrefutable fact is that Motley is not where they used to be. Even if the current tour is an improvement, in one fan's eyes, they can't erase the past 10 years of bad music, ruined image and subpar shows."....At least i'm speaking from experience and not pure speculation. Just because the band sucked for ten years does not erase the reality that they got their act together for a great rock show and extremely successful tour. Just because you saw one bad show in one fans eyes as you say....does not erase the fact that they had a huge successful tour. Compare that to what GNR has done in the past 15 years. They haven't had a successful tour and unfortunatley the majority of the press for the 2002 tour was negative from media and many fans alike. It was not deserved as we can agree that the in the tour they sounded great. But peoples impression of Axl and GNR right now is not favarable. We and the press are hopeful there is great things to come but it is not as positive as we would like.

I'm not comparing GNR to MC and suggesting MC is at all as good as GNR. My point is that MC went out and put themselves on the road and had success doing it. Something GNR has not done since '93. Its time for that to change. They have the potential but that means nothing until they do something with their talents...until then we will only have our memories of years gone past.

Excellent post. Nice to see someone other than myself, Alan Niveen and a few others who actually GET IT!

The problem with the new outfit is that when it comes to performing live they will have to play at least 80-90 percent of the stuff from the glorious back catalogue and it's plain to see for those with a brain that this new batch of muso's will never, ever be able to play with the heart and integrity of the originals who created these songs in the first place. There is a reason why Led Zep never replaced their drummer. Some legacies are best left alone. rock1

The fact GN'R sold out in 12 minutes here in Finland just ain't so simple. First of all, more than 60 % of the tickets were already "sold" to companies and associates and then comes the scalpers, so it was like 10 % or something that included the real fans who wanted to see the act. The ticket service thing in Finland has got totally out of control, even if you go waiting outside the ticket service like hours before opening and you're like 3rd in the line to get the ticket, it has probably sold out before it's your turn. And all of that because the Ticket Service Finland is sucking so many corporations big dicks and they don't give a rat's ass about the people who would really like to go to see the band.

Another thing is that the TV ad about the gig was so misleading that you could almost pull a lawsuit against Welldone agency because the ad contained only footage about the original GN'R and lines like "After 10 years, they're back!" or something and many of my friends were like "Holy shit, the Guns is coming to Finland with the classic line-up! OMG OMG!". I really hope so that too many won't be let down after they see that the stage is filling up with way different-looking dudes than it used to. But nice that they'll have the second show, maybe this time the real fans will get a chance to get their fucking tickets. Sorry about the bad language but I am quite pissed off about this situation over here.

No, if you, bunky, or any other of your idiot army ever got it, you wouldn't be on a fan forum putting down the real fans of GNR and GNR themselves. Again, refer to "I don't like Eminiem, I'm not going to waste my time on an Eminem forum bitching about him".

I call retards like you, Niveen and the rest of the sacks of shit that come here and bitch, bitch, bitch LIFELESS pricks. I mean, really, sit back and analize the situation. Don't you have better things to do, like make dorky little avatars with a picture of you with... is that the Retarded Championship belt of the world? If you don't like the new band so much, why the fuck do you waste so much time on this forum?

Reason: (this goes for Niveen and the rest of the Slash ball lickers/Axl haters) You have no real life of your own, so to make yourself feel better and to inflate what little bit of egos you might have, you go on an internet fan site and try to throw some 'weight' around... insulting the band the site is dedicated to and their fans. Only because in the real world, you're laughed at and will always work as a line cook or trash man. So, feel proud you get the chance to spar a little bit with some intelligent people like me on mommy's computer in your little fantasy world of 'being somebody' online becuase in real life, you're a worthless piece of shit:) I get nothing but enjoyment out of calling out idiots like yourself on here... you're all a dime-a-dozen.

Let me guess, next you're going to challenge me to a fight or are going to threaten to 'kick my ass'.

Wouldn't that be cute

Yup, white trash... that's all you are. You're picture proves it, bunky. I suggest you join the military and make something of your life before you find yourself homeless in a ditch when mommy and daddy are long gone, along with your internet connection.

Boy, wouldn't that be the day.

Some legacies are best left alone. rock1

Agreed, although I do enjoy some of Axls new stuff(as I do Velvet Revolver), niether are a patch on Guns N Roses

i really do believe a name change is in order

No, if you, bunky, or any other of your idiot army ever got it, you wouldn't be on a fan forum putting down the real fans of GNR and GNR themselves. Again, refer to "I don't like Eminiem, I'm not going to waste my time on an Eminem forum bitching about him".

You know what's funny about your posts...you actually believe people feel upset after reading them. You actually believe you sound intelligent. Reality check Matt13....we feel sad for you. Its good that mental hospitals in Baltimore have the internet but its sad that their patients are so easily identified. For some one who has close to 1 post a day since they joined it sounds as though it is you that is intervenisly addicted to the internet and it is you who will have no life when your realesed from what ever mental institution your admitted to. Until you are released enjoy your stay and we are all hoping you have speedy recovery. Quick tip...If a doctor puts you in a round room and tells you to piss in a corner ....don't feel to confused its a test....there aren't any corners. So don't feel ashamed go ahead hug your Bunky clown tight and piss in your pants like the obvious dysfunctional baby you are. :P
