THE BLUES did this before rap. Especially in Britain.

I don't think so, it influenced alot of musicians who would be huge in Rock, but never dominated the mainstream.

Maybe it didn't dominate the mainstream, but blues-rock did.

That's what I thought you meant. In a way you are right.

You said, in your original post "only one has ever dominated popular music". My "point" is that country music has always vastly outsold rap music throughout the lat 30 years, or so, and is, therefore, far more "popular".

If by "popular", however, you mean - with the mainstream media and MTV - then you're probably correct. Country music does not really garner half as much attention as 50 Cent's tales of woe in the 'hood.

Personally speaking, I've never found country music that inspiring and I think rap music has always been far more innovative and progressive.
