Death Star
Years ago I posted a thread on time travel. Now I am doing one on time machines. What would be your ultimate time machine? What features would it have? Personally I would have a smartphone like device where you input your destination meaning year and also where you want to go. Say you want to go to New York in 1895. Another feature would be the period feature. This enables the person to select an outfit from that era., You would also be given enough money to find a place to live and get whatever basic items needed for the period you travel to. The money would be correct for the period too. This way you don't run the risk of using a quarter with the date 1997 in the year 1967 or wearing a GN'R shirt in the 1th century. The reason I chose a smartphone design is due to its small compact size and said smartphone will be disguised as a period item that can be pocketed wherever you are back in time. So, what would your custom machine be?

Snake-Pit
I simply deduce that the Delorean DM-12 time machine traveled through space as well as time enabling it to arrive in the same location at another time. You see, Hill Valley is a fixed location on an ever rotating Earth in orbit 24/7. If I didn't assume that the time machine from Back to the Future took in to account the rotation of the Earth and it's orbit, then I'd just wonder how Marty never drifted off in to space when he went back to November 1955.However, this still bugs me... Snake-Pit
Okay, in all seriousness... There are two distinct sciences behind traveling forward and traveling backwards through time.Travel forward - This is based on the principle that time is relative to gravity, so if you were to travel so fast you'll go so far, the atoms on your body would be bouncing around relative to you, where you're at, going x. so fast Earth is all the way back here doing what we're doing that time still passes for us at our rate.String theory basically shows that if you synchronised two clocks and placed them in a tall building, one clock at the top and the clock other in the basement, because the of the cock placed on the at top's distance from the Earth, time passes quicker and the clock at the top of the very tall building will always begin reflect this and appear to be running fast and become noticeable if left over time, proving that time is indeed relative, as it passes at different 'speeds' in relation to it's location of it's closest largest body of mass 'Earth' as, mass/gravity does slow time down. - Travel so fast, become something with the infinite mass or 0, or as good as it gets which is, beyond current capabilities, I believe, and then you're talkin' time travel.Travel backwards... Worm hole, create one!We need a start point, let's make it the present, YOU CAN NOT TRAVEL BEYOND YOUR START POINT...Make that sucker, the worm hole needed to bend space and allowing you go back.Use lasers. Don't know why, just seems to be the current train of thought in the time travel community, hopefully we'd get an energy beam/laser so powerful it ill bend space-time, that's the plan there. Now, I don't know of any propulsion system that could bend space in it's wake, but if it could, like what I want my one to do, it to travel forward, going so fast creating that wormhole needed for backwards time travel that'll always take me back to 'where I turned on the time machine', so no matter where I go, I'd always be able to come back to my home time.It will have to be a space ship, my one, as I don't expect the Earth to wait for me. Len Cnut
Wouldnt a time machine destroy life as we know it? I mean...reality is a cause and effect knock on thing right? I mean you might go back to like..pre-historic times and step on a plant or something it might cause on a knock on effect that makes it so the future as we know it would never happen? How do you know the alternate reality you create wouldnt be disasterous?
netcat
time paradox: if you see your smash-faced future self, materializing from thin air and punching your present self in the mouth, it means that in future you invented a time machine to come back and punch your past self in the mouth

SoulMonster
I travel forward in time. I can't really adjust the speed. Except if I drink too much. Edited June 11, 2016 by SoulMonster
