Quick question about a weird "what if" theory I have

It's known in the late 90's, a version of the album was done and was rejected (or delayed in hopes of a reunion) by the label, largely to do with Jimmy Iovine. Around the same time, Dr. Dre had signed Eminem to Dre's Aftermath label on Interscope and Eminem essentially became the label's focus.

Assuming the premise is true, if Dre never signed Eminem allowing Iovine to spread his attention, is it possible Chinese Democracy gets released sooner? It seems that right as Eminem blew up, the label's interest with a new Guns album disappeared.

I don't think it would have mattered either way. In fact I don't think cd would have come out if it weren't for Dr Pepper making that offer. I really think it would have been held up for many more years.

What kind of events took place over the years that required Dr Pepper to play a big role?
