  1. This was the best show I have ever been to. And I have seen about 50 in my life. They delivered. Worth the $275 ticket price.  Axl's voice is a crap shoot live, but it has always been and I accept that. Not many others, if anyone, records such different ranges and styles so that is what happens live.  But I still don't know what Melissa does, lol.  Thank you GNR!

  2. Yes.  I'd say that in general, the years from the Sweet Child O Mine video release up through the November Rain release, and it was not close.  Metallica's black album in 91 put them up there over the following years. Pearl Jam's Ten was played everywhere when it came out, I was in college BTW so maybe that's why, but they were not playing arenas yet.  Even after their second album in 1993 (I saw them at a theater on that tour). Nirvana the same.

GNR had a mystique plus with no internet, info was harder to get. Tom Brokaw even talked about them on NBC.  I remember wearing a UYI tour t-shirt in the summer of 91 back home after the Dallas show. This was before the albums release.  If I wore that shirt anywhere, even the grocery store, complete strangers would ask me about the concert, what happened, etc. It actually got annoying  to wear it ha.

  3. IMO he likes creating music and singing but at this point does not want the astronomical fame period he has already been through. He went from that extreme to the other - basically disappearing from the public for several years. I like how Duff put that issue, something like 'some people might say that is being reclusive; others might say it is surviving.'

So yes to this poll; maybe wants to stay active in singing live and recording, his way. While pulling the reins in on the rest of it at the same time.

It may be frustrating to others, but other hugely famous musicians did not survive their ride at the top.

  4. I went to this show. It was the worst run event I have been to in 24 years of show-going. We sat in traffic for about 2 hours outside the gate so I missed a couple bands I wanted to see (The SWORD dammit was one). They have had over 10 festivals at this site, country and rock, so I don't know why it was such a cluster f*ck today.

It was unfortunately a white trash haven; I live in OK but I was even shocked at how scummy it was. I can count on one hand the number of attractive females that I saw out of tens of thousands of people. As far as GNR went, I have not been on the boards lately so when they played Catcher and Estranged I really enjoyed it. New sights with the colorful backdrops and videos were new to me. Outdoors the sound will vary depending where you sit. Bush was good and their sound seemed to wave in and out, louder to softer; it was annoying. GNR's was better but not as good as it will be inside; it can't be especially in the wind. The band was tight and in time. Axl sounded better on the lower register songs which he nailed like ISE; higher ones not so well which is to be expected. Half the place was cleared out during their set; not because GNR was bad but because the crowd in this area is lame, period. I was actually surprised as many people knew the CD songs as they did, around me anyways. Rocklahoma sucks though, I will not go back.

  5. You can usually feel the heat if within ten rows at most ga shows. Makes you wonder how hot it is on stage. Ontop of running around and bulky leather jackets, I dunno how he does it.

That's exactly what I thought when I felt the heat from the first pyro, how hot could it feel on the stage, particularly Frank, who is the one sorrounded by the most pyro. Maybe he doesn't feel it because he's black, who knows. But last night's show rocked.

    lol wut

  6. Heading out to the highway for Norman, OK. With two converts to the C.D. era of Guns, ha. I saw Guns in 1988, 1991, and 1992 but not since then. From recent reports it will be a good show. Please play TWAT for us Axl, Oklahoma has been through a lot since you last played here!!! Plus the fact we live here, lol and don't get much action. I do have the rest of the week off, and its a beautiful cool day. Rock on!

  7. What's wrong with the socks? They match his shoes. Normally they should match the pants but he is wearing jeans and its a rock outfit, looks cool. Some of you likely think crocs are fashionable.

  8. I think it is mainly based on songwriting credit, I read he got 40% of the AFD royalties because of that and the rest split the other 60%. That was a long time ago I read that though. Plus remember since he owns the rights to GNR he sold some licensing the songs for 20 million a few years back too. Adds up if you are smart with it. Without all his lambos it would be 300 Mil, ha.

  9. IMO Axl has opposing wishes. He does not want the insane fame he had in the early 90's, hence his withdrawal afterwards. But he wants to make music, so he straddles the fence on things. Also that's why he does not tour the US or put forth any effort in the US in promotion: first because he doesn't have to - he is already wealthy, plus he lives here and would like to go get a cup of coffee without being rampaged. Maybe this is 100% wrong but unless he says so, we have no idea.

  10. It should be obvious by now that Axl does not want CD to be a major success by most people's definition. Yes it sold several million across the world, so it IS a success - but that was not because of promotion on his part. If he wanted to do a traditional promotional cycle for the album he would have. Maybe he does not want his record company to make any more money off of him than is necessary? There has to be a reason. Who knows. But he knows 100X more about the music biz than any of us on here. I would like to hear several CD songs on mainstream radio every day, get some cool DVD's, interviews, videos and tours also. It sucks in a way, but it is what it is and it won't change unless he wants it to.

  11. If Axl wanted to sell more records he would do so. He knows how the industry works, and more than any of us do.

So, BBA your ongoing angst and shit stirring on here really has no point. You should get a new hobby or life in some manner.

BTW I bought a double CD of Judas Priest 'Metal Works' years ago for 2.99 and it is great of course.
