  1. Why now? Because Axl & Weiland had their statements recently, this is obviously Niven's opinion on the situation, if it is really him writing it. I agree though, I thought when VR was formed, that the main song writer in STP was R. DeLeo, and Axl was the main one in GNR, so I didn't expect much from VR, and I was correct.

  2. If you compare NME to Rolling Stone, that is a good thing. If RS had an "album review" that is what it would be. Also people, this thing will come out sometime, and probably soon. When things start rolling for real, half the people here won't believe it anyway. This would be out of the blue, and I have never seen this mag, but after all these years, anything with at least 1% chance of happening is good odds.

  3. Stinson said a few years ago that Axl had a plan to record three records, release them over a 5 year span and tour during that time also. That's why he did not quit GNR when things were not moving, he does not want to miss out. I wouldn't either - GNR may dominate music for the next five years if CD and its successors are a success.

  4. After reading the Lisa Reed "December 23rd" comment and many other postings by people who don't want to hear "too much" of the new material before it is remastered forget that we heard half of both UYI albums before they came out. This was 16 years ago before the internet was even around.

    Consider this:

There are 30 songs between both albums. As for me personally, I heard the following months or years before they were tweaked and remastered:

Right Next Door To Hell: Heard live on the spring/summer '91 tour

    Dust N Bones: '91 tour

Live And Let Die: '91 tour (not to mention knowing the song through Paul McCartney)

Don't Cry: Heard in '87 at their Cleveland gig and on numerous early bootlegs

    Bad Obsession: '91 tour

Back Off Bitch: On numerous bootleg and demo lps

    Double Talkin Jive: '91 tour

November Rain: '91 tour & many early bootlegs

    Coma: '91 tour

Civil War: '91 tour and the benefit album that it was first released on

    14 Years: '91 tour

Knockin On Heaven's Door: '87 & '91 tours along with Ritz video & many bootlegs

    Estranged: '91 tour

You Could Be Mine: '91 tour and Terminator 2 soundtrack

That's 14 songs! You probably shouldn't count the alternative version of Don't Cry or My World (not the whole band playing), so over half of both albums were heard before they came out. In fact, when I saw them in Cleveland in '87 they also played Patience, You're Crazy" (acoustic) & "Used To Love Her" a year before "Lies" came out! I'm sure that people in LA got to hear much of AFD before it came out.

The bottom line seems to be clear that Axl has always "leaked" his songs way before they were mass released. Now we have the internet to find them with.I don't think this hurts the integrity of the tunes at all and it definately doesn't hurt future album sales. All it does is give us fans a chance to hear music evolve from ideas to demos to finished product. So for me personally what does it hurt to have a little "Appetizer For Destruction" every now and then!

Some radio stations played the album version of Bad Apples on the air before UYI came out. Not a very good song to choose but I guess its all they had.

  5. Maybe it only means they aren't supposed to write about the tracks in detail until then. As part of a planned publicity effort with magazines, interviews and the like going full bore then. Maybe RS or some other media outlet has paid for first rights to publish a pre-release review. i have no knowledge of how things work though.

  6. Like I said before, people who talk with Slash and Matt Sorum have said this is happening (R. Halfin) or is rumored to happen (I. Astbury). What is funny is those of you who think you know what Axl and Slash think and would / would not do. I would be surprised, but really there is a chance that this is true. Personally I want the new band and new record, move on already!

  7. I'm just curious how people came to the assumption that these are demos. The reason I ask is because people seem to be using the defense "THEY'RE JUST DEMOS PEOPLE, DEMOS" to explain away any possible faults the songs have. When I was listening to some UYI demo songs last summer, I remember them being really rough, missing some "effects", and Axl would even say things briefly in between lyrics like "this will be changed" etc. While these on the other hand are quite polished sounding from a production prespective are they not, and Buckethead isn't around to do any tinkering anymore.

Are people just fooling themselves when saying this? Couldn't they actually be final versions? Or do you think the final versions of the songs will be quite different?

I emailed Axl and he replied, "They are demos. Now where are my shades?"

    So there you are. Peace.

  8. Axl never commented on Contraband, obviously he's jealous.

He's never really commented on anything....lol

Yes and thank God for that. Thats one reason I like him. We don't need more celebrities telling us what they think about every f'ing subject that comes around. Axl stays out of the news if he is not active with GNR, and I appreciate that.
