Peace talks start today. Let us hope they are a good start.

I don’t think anyone expected such damming sanctions and such a unified response

mad evil dictator expected that Ukraine will surrender within two days and that the west was so decayed that they will do no response. he was terribly wrong in both of these.

speaking about "innocent russians" - well, it's unfortunate, but what was that number? 70% of them support the invasion and 120% support Putler? no, I don't buy this. they are to blame until they themselves get rid of their current leadership.

so far I can still only see very small scale demonstrations of those who are brave enough - those have my kudos because they risk going to jail.

but only Russians themselves can get the world rid of Putler and his band of war criminals, and I will only have kind words for them when they actually do it.

meanwhile, those bastards are again heavily shelling ukrainian cities. that is the very same case as when Hitler's armies bombed western cities. to hell with them!

Exactly, as a non-NATO country, fairly close to the Russian border, I'd very much appreciate if the Ukrainians wins this...

you're lucky that you already pretty much are NATO member (together with Finland), just not "officially".

either way, you have just witnessed what happens when you're not in NATO - suddenly there's a "peaceful military training excersize" behind your borders and the next day your cities are bombarded and you're threatened by nukes.

this is the best way Putler showed everyone why they should join NATO as soon as they possibly can.

there is no "middle way" between civilized world and Putler's Russia - sooner or later russian invaders would knock on the door.

all countries east of Germany and have literally a hundred years of bitter experience with that and we can talk about it until the end of times.

so yeah, Ukraine is now fighting for us and we have to do whatever it takes to prevent its fall and all us here will gladly help with whatever we have.

and many people in this part of world here also consider ukrainian defiance as revenge for all the russian invasions in the recent hundred years which went unopposed back then.

From what I understand, it's just their defense system. They were most likely on high alert already. Russia announcing it is likely a scare tactic ahead of the talks they agreed to with Ukraine.

probably (and hopefully) it is this. I have no doubts NATO members already have their own nukes on full alert and don't talk about it.

  4. no wonder... his country has been invaded and occupied by Russia too. actually twice in the last 30 years. sure, it's not THAT simple, especially in Abchazia where the ethnic tensions went out of the roof on both sides, but that doesn't change much at the fact that russian army are there as occupants.

  5. Germany finally woke up from the lethargy and announced massive investments into defense budget.

it's funny. crazy russian dictator goes on to wage war against Ukraine, saying they are fascists (which itself is an insult to a nation that lost 6M fighting the real fascists in WW2) but they fight back so stubbornly that they totally humiliate him, makes half of the world pissed off and help Ukraine as much as they can including usual "friends" and even fucking Taliban condemns him, forces Germany into biggest military changes since 1933 (just this time fortunately on the right side) and tomorrow it's expected that russian economy will start collapsing, as economic sanctions will start to be devastating (run on the banks has already started in there), and even Switzerland has announced that it's gonna take some serious look into how russian oligarchs keep money in there.

I really hope russian people will topple this bastard and his powerbase, the sooner the better for the country and its folks.

I have no doubt that conventional and state media is heavily compromised and limiting what their audiences can see.

But Russians have access to the web and social media sites, no?

it is being restricted as much as the state power can technically achieve. of course the internet cannot really be turned off, but decades of propaganda made it very hard to find information and work with it properly, so Russians are pretty blind and also scared by police and other forces.

UA is doing a great deal of propaganda work though, my kudos to them. they do literally everything they can in order to keep their freedom. I can't express with words what I feel about that :)

    You're right.

I read at one source that swift is about to come through. We'll see soon I guess

actually I have found something you might have been confused by:

German company KMW offers to deliver 50 Flakpanzer Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine https://www.armyrecognition.com/defense_news_february_2022_global_security_army_industry/german_company_kmw_offers_to_deliver_50_flakpanzer_gepard_anti-aircraft_tanks_to_ukraine.html

It’s been interesting to watch the information war going on right now.  Zelensky and the Ukrainians are putting on a masterclass on how to galvanize support within the country and all over the world. As Thomas Friedman wrote in the NY Times yesterday, we’ve never had a war like this one precisely because of how connected we are via our devices and the internet.  I’d be curious what kind of information most Russians are seeing right now. They must be wondering, regardless of what they’re seeing, why their military hasn’t captured the country by now. It has to be a bit demoralizing for a country that prides itself on its military prowess to find itself getting punched back more than anticipated.

in Russia itself, media are heavily censored and all infochannels are prohibited from using words like "aggression", "invasion" etc. under draconic fines.

But news just broke that Germany is sending 400 tanks to ukraine

are you sure it's tanks? my info says RPGs - basically anti-tank bazookas.

Germany to my knowledge is sending soldiers and equipment to the east, but not to Ukraine but to Slovakia, a battlegroup with Patriot battery and dutch soldiers as well, 1200 in total.

but it can't be sending tanks to UA

If I’m Putin I would be ordering the military to do everything it can to not kill or harm Zelensky.  Assassinating the Ukrainian President would bring about everything short of a military response from Europe and North America.

I can imagine that that scum's aim is the exact opposite - to murder Zelensky and attempt to cripple the resistance that way.

this info came from high ranking (ex-)diplomats/politician from Estonia (see replies for the whole translation):

According to the Ukraine, Cyprus supports a russian ban from SWIFT. So now it’s just Hungary (which is lead by a madman as well) and Germany who are against this sanction. I’m truly ashamed of my countrys politics

according to polish prime minister, the hungarian leader supports it too

edit: Viktor Orbán has just confirmed Hungary fully supports all sanctions and won't block anything.

I have a huge amount of love and respect for Zelensky. He is an honourable hero. His family and country must be so proud. I'm not embarrassed to admit he's brought tears to my eyes.

same here. I'm usually not expressing many emotions, but in last two days I'm shaking like a leaf.

and I think it's very similar with everyone from the former "eastern bloc" countries, which suffered russian invasions in the past already and they know how it works and that the west let us bleed everytime. Poland got invaded and its people massacred by good friends Germany and Russia together. Baltic states got invaded and their citizens got murdered or expulsed to gulags. even damn Hungary (I say damn because their leader Orbán has been Putler's big friend, not sure how it is now) got invaded and occupied by those bastards so they know very well. our own country got invaded and our nation's spine got broken.

the west has no idea. they would sacrifice us for a bit of comfort. and by "they" I certainly DON'T mean the US and particularly the UK, because those countries still show some balls and spine. but most of western EU so far showed just worries for their comfort in the face of aggression, because fuck some east european shitholes, right?

    what a shame AGAIN.

I hope the leadership of Ukraine is and will stay safe, because the invading scum will for sure try to destroy it with a precision strike, possibly using Chechen commandos. but Ukraine needs them in order to keep resisting.

but those guys have more balls than european leaders ever showed in many many decades.

God bless Ukraine and its people and fuck Putler! I hope he and his criminal partners will burn in hell for this.
