May 27th 2006 - Rock In Rio Lisbon 2006

Either Wish You Were Here, Civil War or Shuffle It All.

A tragedy to the fans and music industry. The world laments the loss of silkworms and rhiad.
I was hoping for an album with such impact as AFD, but without Silkworms on it, it won't be that great. It will lack Pitman's masterpiece.

I've been listening to Dylan all day now, and have to say Desolation Row and Tangled Up in Blue are outstanding.
I have just bought Blood On The Tracks and I really got addicted to Tangled Up In Blue. One of the best tracks ever written. It has instantly become a favourite of mine.
Haven't heard Desolation Row yet, I'll check it out quite soon, though.

The red circle marks the part that is on the cover of the albums.

Mama Kin and Civil War

Just came back from the store with Bob Dylan's "Blood On The Tracks".
-
Either Izzy Stradlin or Bob Dylan, I can't decide.

I can't believe you people don't like the lyrics. Why don't you look at it as the story of GNR? I'll guide you through my interpretation:
"All the reasons that you gave
I'd followed you"
To all those GNR fans who followed the band through their long absence.
"With all the rumors I can tell,
Some things didn't work so well"
Things weren't always easy during this time, quittings and replacements, etc.
"When you first told me you were gone,
So long ago but I still head on
Through all the bullshit that I've had to take"
Rumours about the band have always been floating around, few of them with some truth. Also, after so many years away, Axl came back, yet fans are still here.
"Could've been waiting off here alone
Like a broken record for so long"
I think we know this record by the name of Chinese Democracy...
"oooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you now it's true"
Axl put all his effort behind GNR. Everyone knows it and, for better or worse, he is associated with the band.
I don't think this was Axl's intention when he wrote the song. But this is the beauty of music, is the possibility for you to find your own interpretation of something written by someone else.

He smashed his bass because it wasn't working and he was pissed...
-
Here are some photos I took. Hope you enjoy
-
Yeah, you couldn't hear the bass at all! I first thought they were gonna stop the song... Fortunately, they kept going! I think that if it had been in another era, the show would've been stopped immediately
After the show, when i mentioned that to some people, they all said they didn't see that... I was already wondering if i had dreamt that or something!
I'd love to see some footage of that!
On another note, how close to the stage were you? Just curious
I was pretty close. Do you know the mixing house in front of the main stage? If you look to the left (turned to the stage), there is a barrier close to a cameraman. I was there. Great place to see the show.

Man, everyone has already noticed that the sound mix for TV was a piece of "monkey crap", as The Rock would say. But that was just the mix, ok? Live, the sound was perfect. So blame on the mixing jabroni.
I agree. There were some sound problems in the beggining though, did you see Tommy smashing his bass right on Welcome to the Jungle cause it wasn't working properly or something? Apparently they didn't show that live on tv!
It wasn't working, I noticed it.

it really was fucking fantastic , I ve seen lot of kids with guns shirts and I was proud to see that not all kids like the hip hop shit .
Well, I am 15 (not really a small, small kid, but a kid still) and I was there, GNR shirt put on, screaming and jumping like crazy. One man walked up to me and told me "Aren't you too young to be listening to that?". I said "No way, it's my favourite band!". He was really surprised, as were other people. But I never thought I'd see so many portuguese GNR fans. I thought there would be 30 000 maximum, and with many, many foreign people, but no. You see, they were all just "asleep". Once Axl hit back the road, the fans came back, took the old shirts of the closets and there they were, singing all the lyrics perfectly.
Also, in my school, I used to think I was the only GNR fan. Bullshit. Today, I went there with my GNR t-shirt and many people came to me and said "Oh, they were amazing", "What a great band", "What a concert", things like that. I realized Portugal is filled with fans, they just are sometimes overshadowed by this hip hop craze at the moment, which gets mainstream attention in our most popular soap operas. But rock has never lost its fans, as I have come to know.

He sounded really well there.
-
That list sucks.
But I was surprised when I saw the Hard Rock/Metal Greatest Guitarists list. Looks who's number 1:
1. Ron Thal - Bumblefoot, Solo
I guess Axl didn't choose all that wrong...
-
I was there, pretty close to the stage, jumping and singing along, to the point that I lost my voice and I haven't got it back.
-
R3> R5
Bucket>Bumble
yessss.
No. Buckethead may be a better guitarist than Bumblefoot, but Thal suits GNR better IMO, has better stage presence and has resurrected Don't Cry, even if it's only for a solo.
-
He sure was on top of his game. It really looked like he couldn't be having a better time than on stage, lots of funny jokes, that comment about putting up with him, the way he called us motherfuckers for downloading the leaks , he was just enjoying himself and the crowd, which was great and made the concert that much special, with moments like Knockin' On Heaven's Door (Axl really showed confidence on his voice, otherwise he wouldn't have done that old times scream and that interaction with the crowd) and Don't Cry.
Overall, I loved the show. The openers were great and I was really amazed by GNR's performance. I was once a detractor of this new band, but, after seeing them live, I realised that they are Guns N' Roses. They still have it and their style nowadays makes them look like a real band. They have the GNR spirit. Long live Guns N' Roses. I'll be there when they come back to Portugal.
-
If the sound was seriously that crappy at the show, Axl would have stopped playing and started yelling at someone. He gets pissed off enough about slight fuck ups. Not being able to hear any of the guitarists for most of the show was a huge fuckup, it couldn't have really went down that way and Axl just put up with it.
The sound at the venue was perfect, nothing like what you guyus say it was on TV.
-
no new songs
aha.. do we have any DOWNLOADERS here tonight?
"Motherfuckers!"
-
Axl just had to get there earlier....
They played on time dude...
No, they didn't. They were half an hour late. But I guess that's normal for a GNR show...
