I had a sealed, '87, rape cover AFD, complete with Dead Pool hype sticker. I ended up selling it for a LOT of money because I was never going to listen to it and I have the AFD reissue from a few years back that sounds excellent.
Still cool and all, but that would be a 1988 2nd pressing in order to have The Dead Pool sticker on it. Glad you got some $$$ for it!

Not sure really. We will see!

Clearly inferior sounding to earlier releases.
I wish I could just order the books from these boxsets!

Since they didn't pay to use your stuff and you didn't ask for any cash in return, I think the best thing to do is to request one of those heavy sets to be donated to the forum for a giveaway. Admins can arrange that - I think. I don't know, just a thought, if Fernando or any Gn'R management member is reading this, you already know what to do.
And since I already pre-ordered this, if this giveaway ever comes to fruition, I am already excluding myself from participating. Thank you.Thank you. I didn't ask for anything, but I was offered stuff. The boxset, among other things...

What i’d give to have a litho of the Dubai show. By the time I got to the gig they’d all gone
Those lithos were never made sadly. Too bad because I thought the artwork for it was phenomenal

52 minutes ago, Powerage5 said:Regardless of the fact that I'm still planning to buy the Super Deluxe edition, I've got to say they really could've done a better job with the musical contents of this set. I mean, for comparison's sake, last year Stone Temple Pilots released a similarly-sized reissue of Core - an (Albeit excellent) album that had nowhere near the impact of AFD, nor do STP have nearly the following that GN'R do. Disc one of that set had the album remastered, disc two contained four pre-STP demos from when the band was called Mighty Joe Young, five demos of Core songs from the early STP days, and four alternate takes of album songs previously released as B-sides, disc three had two concerts from 1993, disc four was the audio from their MTV Unplugged special, disc five was a DVD with the 5.1 mix of the album and all the promo videos, and it still included the LP. Of that set, the MJY demos were circulating but never officially released, the STP demos had never circulated, the two concerts were uncirculated (Excluding two tracks which had been released as B-sides), and the MTV Unplugged special had obviously aired on TV but the sound quality was far superior to any circulating source. The packaging is quite similar to what the AFD Super Deluxe appears to be (Without any trinkets), and that set came in at a whopping $80. And they didn't even include everything from that era.
If you want another comparison to a more trinket-oriented boxset, let's look at Alice Cooper's Old School box set from about 5 years ago. Granted this isn't necessarily a reissue set, but it's pretty similar to the Locked N' Loaded set in terms of contents. That included two CD's of of early demos, alternate versions of songs, several live tracks - nearly all uncirculated material, another CD officially releasing a widely circulated concert bootleg from 1972, a fourth CD with an hour long interview with the four surviving members of the Alice Cooper Group, a DVD with a roughly two hour documentary covering the Alice Cooper Group era, the 1972 bootleg on LP, a 7" with two unreleased tracks of the pre-Alice Cooper band The Nazz, a 60 page hardcover book of unreleased photos from the ACG era, as well as reproductions of ticket stubs, setlists, 5 8x11 lithos of early concert posters and artwork, and a reproduction of the Killer tourbook, all of which is housed in a school desk like the one on the cover of School's Out. Price tag? $260.
We know there's more stuff from the AFD era that isn't included - for starters, they didn't include everything from the Sound City sessions. Then theres the Pasha and Mystic sessions. And we don't even know if there's other demo tapes out there. And what about live shows? We know Canter has some stuff in his collection (Granted it's not professionally recorded, but it would still be a great document of the club days), there's at least the Marquee 1987 and The Ritz 1987 and 1988 existing as SBD recordings, and I'm sure others we aren't aware of.
The point is, it's not hard to put together an exciting box set that includes unavailable material, in exciting packaging, and making it affordable for your average Joe. I'm excited for the Super Deluxe edition, but GN'R really did miss the mark here.
There are plans for future releases from what I have been told. Personally I think I would have just made an ultimate set that included all demos and live shows from that time. As for live shows pre-Appetite, Mark and GNR have to kiss and make up first or GNR needs to spend a TON of $ to buy them from Marc if he would even consider selling (which supposedly he has considered before).

Here is the story so far of my involvement:
So obviously they were looking to put old stuff (flyers, demos, pictures, etc.) on the boxset. Why they aren’t all on there I don’t know, but I have heard hints about future releases so we will see. No guarantees there. They contacted a person I bought something from and that person referred them to me. Initially it was just for that one item. We arranged a time to talk. On the phone I told them about my collection and had them check out my website while we were talking. They wanted to buy the banner right off the bat but I said I wasn’t interested at this time before a price was ever even raised. They were blown away and at that point the plans for the boxset changed a bit. But I think they always had a certain release date they were aiming for because I only had a day to box everything I had from 1985-1989/90 and send it to them.
Before I did that I independently verified who I was talking with on the phone, after all I am no idiot. Still I was nervous sending all that and UPS insurance only goes so high. But I figured what the hell. Everything arrived safely and they got to work. They had it for a little over a month and arranged times for management and the band to come by and check everything out. I can say that Slash and Duff were involved, this wasn’t just Axl. They told me my name would be in the credits, that I would be receiving x, y, and z, etc. The person that referred them to me said I should ask them for $ for using the stuff I own. Now I may be an asshole, but I am not a complete and total fucking asshole so no way in hell was I going to extort any band, let alone my favorite band, to use stuff that is theirs to begin with!
Everything came back in the same condition I lent it to them. But I was nervous about the shipping once again! And all that time I had to keep this from all of you. It was agonizing! If I had known the price plan ahead of time I would have done what little I could to try to help you guys out. This is the reason I also removed the links to the demo I posted originally. Yes, it wasn’t used in this boxset, but like I said perhaps in the future.- 23

For everyone that's curious, this version of Shadow of Your Love is from a November 1986 one song session they did with Mike Clink as a trial to see if they wanted to hire him. The Dec 86 description on the website is a bit of a misprint

Seems i totally missed this discussion, yes i've put them on Youtube mainly because there's a much bigger audience that can hear this great release and there's more people to reach out to than on soundcloud and the more people are reached the less will buy that stuff offa ebay when some bootleg company will press it to silver or vinyl. I was only able to rip it from SC in mp3 128kbps ,i also told this to your friend who did the original transfer. I still really wonder if u could rip it as true FLAC, ofcourse i gave you and your 2 friends credits for it in the YT video and i'm not monetizing any of my video's on my channel. I agree that it's best to keep the original files in their original shape specially when sharing and if u remaster or retrack, do it for private use only. Since this wasnt really shared and only rippable in LQ (for most people) i did tweak it but mainly volume settings because when upped to my channel YT will rape the bitrate and volume once more. Besides there wasnt much to tweak anyways because even in 128 mp3 they sound killer and so i guess the FLACS still stay rare and not heavily circulating
No worries at all man, thanks for the reply. I am going to try to get an answer if they care about us sharing the full 24/96 FLAC. If they don't we will put it on torrent sites and all that and directly PM whoever wants them. Fingers crossed! By the way, I like your YouTube channel, so much great stuff!

First of all thanks for sharing this, maybe can you tell us what tape deck did your friends use(or complete line age) i personally downloaded this into my laptop with a rip program and i want to ask you why does the title says 24/96 wich in fact when downloading this you will get 128 kb/s mp3,this makes me wonder does soundcloud compress the sound or you intentionally uploded like this?
PS.i didn't read your last post, hence the questions!
The transfer was done by a pro w/ pro equipment. The raw files I have are in fact 24/96 FLAC. SoundCloud auto downgrades to 128, especially if you check the box not allowing downloads. Even if I didn't check that I heard that SoundCloud only allows downloads in 128 as well.

How do you figure it's fair game? I posted it on Soundcloud for a reason, read the 3rd post above. Don't get me wrong, on a personal level I don't care and have nothing against you or Frans. And I have no idea if GNR will care. But if they do, they might not care as long as it's not downloadable. Of course there are ways of getting around it, but just because you can doesn't mean that you should. On the flip side if they do care and make it all get taken down, or even if someone just finds a runaround like Frans did and is able to download (in original quality) well then you can understand if no one does anything like this in the future when they come across gems like this. For example I was privy to listen to unreleased GNR tracks in someone's hotel room during the last residency. We also got to see pro shot footage from Puerto Rico (2009 or 2010) and pro shot footage of a soundcheck by the band with either Tommy or Bumble singing mot of the songs. It was all with the understanding that no was recording it to be released later. Hopefully you see what I am saying here.
Also when tweaked are you "improving" it really? The raw sound is about the experience of it. You can argue that cds improved the sound of vinyl (I don't mean the technical side of things, but I ma talking about the hiss, etc., those cool weird little sounds that happen when you play vinyl), but again it makes the experience different (keep in mind this comment is coming from someone that was raised on cds, I have never even owned a record player). Live Era is another example where the audio was tweaked, and many have a problem with it. Personally I don't but I can see their side. There was a reason I had a professional transfer this at the highest quality possible. We could have tweaked it as well but that betrays the rawness of it IMO.So I have since found out that SoundCloud only allows you to upload in 128kbps Mp3 format for streaming purposes. I think this is true regardless of options, but supposedly if the uploader allows downloads the quality is better. That doesn't really matter anyway since I chose the option that doesn't allow downloads. And, from what I understand and have learned, it will only allow a maximum download of the same quality if not less. Therefore I suppose my entire argument here was a moot point!
Glad all of you have liked the tracks, imagine what they sound like in full 24/96 FLAC! -

You are welcome. But, sorry, there is a reason I put these on Soundcloud after all as I believe estrangedtwat pointed out. On Soundcloud (with the right settings selected when uploading) you can theoretically prevent people from downloading the tracks. If you know some trick to get around that do not post that here and ruin this for everyone. Bottom line, I am not looking for a lawsuit thank you very much. So no, I am sorry, but I will not be sharing these files with anyone directly
