  1. I used it last night, it sucked. There was one girl at the window and she couldnt seem to find anyone's tickets in front of me. I was getting really antsy, I need to go secure a good spot, but nooo, I was standing at the will call window while people were filing in past me :(

They should allow people to get their tickets ahead of time like everywhere else in the world. Grr

  2. I guess it depends on where you were on Friday. I'm not a big girl, either and honestly, I thought I was going to break some ribs... it was INSANE for the first couple songs where I was standing. If you want to see the show in peace, yeah - trade. If you want to miss the first couple songs fighting for your life, stay on the floor! I mean, I made it and everything... this was certainly not the first concert I've been to - I knew what I was getting myself into by being so close and I can hold my own in a pit, but I was still surprised how violent it got at the beginning. I have massive bruises on my back... worth it, but yeah... you've been warned

  3. I had tickets for 3 of the shows and after tonight, I ran back to ticketmaster and got one for the show I was missing. It would've killed me to know that I missed one of these. (So now I have a mezz1 ticket for the 15th - if anyone wants to trade for a floor ticket, I'm up for it;) )

This is just such a chance-in-a-life-time to see 'em in a venue like that.. I mean, that was unbelievable.

  4. oh man, and I was right in front of him... I was so close I could count the beads of sweat on his brow... and I'm quite certain that on more than one occassion we made direct eye contact... and let me tell ya, those pictures are great but nothing can quite compare to the wonder that he was in person...

You gotta see this tour, everyone. I don't care what you have to do, you gotta see it.

  5. Okay… well, I started out at Mustang Harry’s, met some cool people, headed over around 7 - the line was around the block… it was about 3 blocks long and I didn’t actually get into the building until like 8:30. My friend and I then rushed up front as close to the stage as possible, we ended up really close. Bullet opened. They got booed. They played about 45 mins, then GNR went on at 11. They opened with Jungle, then It’s So Easy and Mr. Brownstone, although during these I have no idea what was going on, my friend and I were fighting for our lives. I literally thought I was going to break some ribs, there was some serious violence up front. Then they went into Better and things started calming down a little… I think a lot of people were like “what the hell song is this?” You could really tell the true fans because we knew every word to every song, while some people just stood there during the leak songs…. Anyway, Axl chatted about how much he loves New York City. He also commented on how some people think they know what’s going on in the band, but they don’t. He said Better was a Robin song, to clarify it to all those shit-talkers who think they know all the inside info, but don’t. On they played… he introduced the band. Bumblefoot did a semi-lengthy solo, he has a foot-shaped guitar. He was good, I mean I know he has giant shoes to fill, but I’ll give respect where it’s due.… Axl joked before he went into IRS, something about “I see you guys singing along, little motherfuckers, you must’ve downloaded ‘em” or something’ haha… Baz came out and sang My Michelle, it was fuckin’ awesome. Axl played piano on November Rain… this is where I started crying. It was just surreal, I don’t know… I lost it. Anyway, all the guitarists got in their fair share of solos, and they all sounded great. They’ve really rehearsed this set… and, no, it’s not the original line-up, but they didn’t do quite as many “original” songs, so you really got to hear what the new guys have added to it.

As far as merch goes, there were a few new GNR Hammerstein shirts.

Axl got in a dig about Matt… when he introduced Brain he said something like “Someone said 'where the hell was this guy when we hired Matt' *kind of awkward quietness* I dunno, I thought it was funny”

There was pyro a few times and some red and yellow confetti at the end. No mention of a release date, no unheard songs, no real rants…

The solos were executed pretty well from where I was, although the acoustics weren't too great where I was. What I heard was good. Maddy seemed a bit heavier, and IRS sounded a little different in parts, but there weren't any times where I cringed and thought "ouch, that could've been better"

Axl looked and sounded AMAZING. Actually, amazing doesn't even describe it. He was unbelievable... I don't know what he's been doing since 02, but he's on top of his game in every way

Over-all, it blew me away. It was as great as I had imagined it and then-some... seriously, this is an exciting year

  6. I'm home... holy fuck... that was amazing. Axl possibly looks even hotter than he did back in the day! I was close enough to see the beads of sweat on his face, and I'm tellin ya - that man is gorgeous. Anyway... i'm going to type up a "review" of sorts, but I gotta say that this band IS BACK!!! I cried like a baby, it was so beautiful. Oh man, guys... this is an exciting year

  7. Oh, and to Jenna:

I don't know...there have been plenty of times I've been in NYC on the subway and wanted to do both. Especially the breathing part....why is it the stinky people always seem to be around when you're packed in like sardines?

 yeah, that's true... but screaming or passing out will probably end up in the police/elsewhere taking you away, and that can't happen today!! If you ever want people to back off, though, just start mumbling to yourself... the stranger the mumbling, the more effective it is. And you must be committed to it. Mumble as if your very life depends on it. Example: "the cats will eat my liver, I know it, fuckin' cats, fuckin' furry cats..." and just keep at it... you'll soon get a nice little bubble of personal space because no one wants to be by the mumbling weirdo.

I live on the lower east side and work on the upper west side, so I have plenty of train-riding to deal with daily. <_<

But back on topic: WOO! 6 hours til doors open!

  8. it's now 12:15... my boss has informed me that I can take a half day, so I will now go home, get into my GNR concert gear and head over to the pre-party. I can't let myself think about how excited I am because I won't be able to breathe... or I'll scream. Both things NOT to do on a NYC subway. I'll see you soon, fellow concert-goers, and to those that won't make it: I intend to take good notes :)

  9. I don't know about that... I mean, who knows what the tour is going to be like? What if they do it like in '02 and only play 3 songs from Chinese-D and the rest of the setlist is older material? Old fans would like that. Also, what if the album isn't well-received, then they won't sell as many tickets and the tour will be cancelled prematurely like in '02.

well, they might as well play the songs from CD that we know... and by now, it's more than 3.

I think it's important to play the old songs, but it's just as important to show what the new members have brought to the table themselves with new material.

  10. To most of us, including me - I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

But to the critics and general public, the expectations of all these years are too high. There will be people saying "wow, all that time for THIS?!" It'll be an annoying comment, but get used to hearing it... I have a feeling you'll see it more than you should.

  11. Well, until CD is released, the band is pretty much made up of musicians playing other musicians' parts. They haven't made anything their own yet in the general public's mind. So once it's released, we'll get to see what the new guys have up their own sleeves, and I think people will warm up to them if they like what they've heard.

But that's more the general public.... as for the die-hard community, who knows? Some people will probably never be able to accept them. Some will be more open-minded. We'll have to wait and see...

As for me, I don't care who "feels" for them or not - I'm glad they're out there and I'm excited to see what they have to offer. I like what I've heard so far!

  12. well, opinions are like assholes... personally, I don't like SCOM all that much. It's alright, but it was never one of my favs on AFD. So some people are going to like some songs, some people aren't - what blows you away won't necessarily blow me away... and on it goes...
