  1. Wasn't there a rumor that he was fired without Axl knowing, or something along those lines?

How could Axl NOT know about one of his employees being fired? Isn't Axl really the only one with the power to decide who goes and who stays in the band?

In those Axl chats, it sounded like they were trying to communicate with Robin in terms of staying in the band, touring, etc. It seemed to me like it was fully Robin's choice to leave. Although, it was strange he left literally months before the album was finally released. Did he maybe think it was just talk again, and it probably wouldn't go through? Did he just lose faith in the band? So many unanswered questions when it comes to this. At least with Bucket, his manager stated it was because of Axl not being able to put out the album and follow a schedule. With Robin, we really don't know if there was bad blood or not...

I could be wrong, seeing as how there's a lot of talk/rumors that go around...but wasn't there a rumor (I'm thinking from MSL) that Azoff either fired or let Finck know he wasn't in future plans because he was only

interesting in reuniting the old band and not the current band? Again, can't remember where I read that or if it was just a poster throwing a theory out there, and it doesn't make sense that Axl would not be

aware of his lead guitarist being fired. I do recall the Axl chats where he seemed to imply that Robin was welcome to stay and that what he was doing was up to and only known to Robin himself at the time...

It was just strange that there was no announcement made and it seemed that Axl didn't even know that Robin left until his return to NIN was posted on nin.com.

But when you look at it, it's not totally surprising. The album was practically done years ago, so Robin's work on it was done a long time ago. Nothing to do there. There were no plans for a tour, for whatever reasons there were behind that. Nothing to do there. Outside of replying to questions on message boards and websites, nobody from the band did any promotion for it, so nothing to do there either. CD coming out really didn't give Robin any more to do than he'd been doing already.

I don't know if there was bad blood, but unless things were cleared up after the fact, it sounded like he left without telling anyone, to join Reznor, who'd made a habit of mocking Axl. I think he even made comments once upon a time about being unhappy that Robin was in GNR.

  2. I always thought the timing of him leaving was strange, with CD actually being on the verge of being released at that point. When he signed on for NIN it wasn't for the Wave Goodbye Tour, it was the Lights in the Sky tour. Maybe he didn't know NIN would be hanging it up in the near future? Or maybe a short touring stint in NIN appealed more to him since it was actually confirmed to be happening, where even with CD being released, there was still no solid evidence of a tour or anything other than the CD just finally appearing in stores. I suspect there had to be some behind the scenes business there that caused him to be on his way.

Wasn't there a rumor that he was fired without Axl knowing, or something along those lines?

I do like his work in NIN though. He got to do two tours and an album. Supposedly he was supposed to be involved in future NIN recordings, but with Trent working on other projects now I guess they're on hold.

He's mentioned that he has done some work on NIN so maybe Robin is working on things that aren't going to be released for awhile?

  3. Azoff trying to reunite the original band was pretty much assumed, to the point where some here thought the reunion was almost set in stone because of his involvement. Getting the original band back together and doing a reunion tour would have made huge money, I completely buy that he was trying to make that happens, by any means necessary.

Axl is nothing if not a fighter, that's for sure. I'm sure some will mock him for this, but I applaud him. The smart move might have been just going along with it and making the money, but he doesn't need the money, and was never one to sell his principals down the drain...who else would have the guts to take on this battle but Axl Rose?

  4. I can't say I wasn't a bit let down. There were a lot of songs I was expecting that didn't get played and it felt short. I was half expecting this to be longer since it was the last show of the tour, but as far as I know, it was actually the shortest one. I wanted to hear more from CD. The encore was fun with the Trailer Park Boys, but I was disappointed when they went right into Paradise City. Having said that, during the show, I was rocking out and having a hell of a time, and while I could tell they were skipping some songs I really did enjoy the ones they played...it wasn't until it was over that I was bummed out.

But I'm thinking I should blame the internet. If I didn't have an idea of what to expect from previous shows, I wouldn't have been let down when I didn't get it. I went with a bunch of guys who don't follow the tour and I don't think really have any idea about the day to day happenings of GNR. They loved them back in the day, listened to them all these years, and then one day woke up to find out they had a new CD out and were playing Halifax. They were all really excited for the show and loved every minute of it...if I didn't know they played Scraped in Moncton I wouldn't be bummed out they didn't play it in Halifax.

  5. I'm in Charlottetown (Canada), and heard Street of Dreams on the radio here. I think it was on Wednesday. I didn't catch the lead into it, if there was one, so I don't know if it was announced as a new GNR single or if they just play songs from the album from time to time. All I know for sure was I was at the gym and while switching songs on my iPod noticed the song playing over the radio there was Street of Dreams.

  6. Thank you Axl, for taking the time to explain things as best you could. As a fan, it really means a lot to know you care and are actually communicating with us and trying to answer what you can. I loved Chinese Democracy and can't wait to hear from you again, whether that be on here or in your next musical journey.

I full support you, and always have, in your battle to save GNR, and while I obviously didn't know the details, I never believed it was as simple as Duff/Slash being great guys and you being the prick they made you out to be. Here's looking forward to more greatness from Guns N'Roses in the future! Take care!

  7. I've said it before, and maybe I'm wrong, who knows, but what if Axl's been right all along? We don't KNOW anything. We hear bitchy comments from old band members and assume we know that Axl's clearly to blame for everything....but maybe he was right? Maybe he hasn't talked about it because he can't, legally? What if there seriously were a lot of lawsuits and legal issues stopping CD from comming out earlier? That the reason the album sounds a lot like the leaks is because there wasn't any more work to do and it was all up to the legal department? I mean, we don't know shit, but it's stupid how we all assume everything comes down to Axl being a jackass. I don't think he is, at all. Maybe they didn't announce anything on Robin because they don't know, and haven't decided anything since his recording is done and they don't need to resolve his situation right now. Everything he said made sense to me.

I wasn't here lastnight, but its so cool to read Axl chatting with his fans. Isn't that better than a press release? Sure, it would've been nice to hear this stuff earlier, but I'm sure there were reasons why we didn't. I hope his continues to keep us in the loop, so to speak and we should appriciate that he took the time to do this, to come talk to us, and not shit on him anytime he does it in the future. If he's gonna take time out of his day (well, night) to talk to us, he won't do it for long if he gets nothing but negativity from us before, during and after it.

And how cool does Axl seem? Down to earth, honest, funny, he comes off like a regular guy who'd be fun to be around...maybe he's not the insane prick so many made him out to be for so long after all?

    Thanks Axl!

  8. isnt this like the 3rd album in 3 years? a bit different to gnr I think.

yup, the 3rd crappy album in the 3 years.

    um no

Year Zero is a great album, Ghosts is alright, but it wasnt meant to be a mindblowing, and The Slip is pretty good...i listened to it a 2nd time and it's grown on me

all in all, it's 3 albums in 3 years, not matter how you look at it...what has Axl done in those 3 years?

It's 3 albums in 1 year. Year Zero came out last May. Counting With Teeth, it's four albums in three years.

  9. Even if you don't like the album, if your a NIN fan, it's hard to complain. He gave us an album for free as a thank you for supporting him. He has a fan base that would easily pay $10 just to hear what the new album sounds like, and even if they didn't like it, be ready and willing to spend another $10 on the next one. If you don't like NIN or the album, fine, but it's hard to complain, really, just say it isn't your thing and move on.

  10. I can almost confirm that this has NOTHING to do with Axl. I follow the NIN forums as much as I do here, and fans always complain when he says "soon" (which he does a lot) because his "soon" can be anything from a week to a year. Plus whenever he updates or tells us of an upcomming event/information, he says "soon", which us impatient NIN fans would then complain about in postings on forums on the nin.com site.

So I have no idea how any reasonable person can think this has anything in the least bit to do with Axl Rose. Because Axl once said that soon wasn't the word, any one else who uses it is slapping Axl in the face? There may have been some bitterness over Robin's back and fourth act between GNR and NIN, and he does seem to mock Axl from time to time, but I can pretty much promise "soon" was laughing at himself and how his fans when he says it.

  11. Trent always tells us NIN fans (the ones that pay attention) that information will come "soon", or we'll find out "soon", or he has something for us "soon"...even back in the day of 5 years between albums he'd tell us the next would come "soon"....so NIN fans of forums would complain about how Trent's "soon" could mean anything from a week to a year, etc...

It has nothing to do with GNR, and aside from Axl once saying "soon isn't the word" or whatever the quote was, I don't know what you're talking about...

  12. Yea, I think the "leaks" were definitely planned. No one had heard anything from GNR since the failed 2002 tour, the plug had been pulled on the album, it seemed GNR were dead and burried. I'm sure they were released to show people that the new album actually did exist.

  13. I can see her point...

    but...

GNR go on at like 11:30/12...just show up then? I didn't show up until 10:30 and I walked right up front, about 10 feet from the stage ...I didn't see the Suicide Girls.

Unless she won't let him stay out that late ...which could be possible with this woman.

  14. I actually think he's telling the truth this time.

I went to the Halifax show and a friend who's friends with the Trews got to hang out backstage. I didn't find out until after the show that Axl apparently almost didn't play that night due to having an ear infection. So I heard the ear infection thing the night of the Halifax show, that much is true at least.

If that's really why he cancelled this show, who knows, but the ear infection thing stands up.

  15. I'm going to the show, but I don't want to read through three pages of drinking in Toronto at NIN stories, etc...

I'm going up tomorrow with 7 buddies, and we're looking for somewhere to party after the show.

Do we have a place we're all meeting up yet?

Also, where is GNR going after the show? And can we get in??

How can I get in touch with anything going to the show? I'm staying at the Cambridge.

  16. Guns N Roses were a huge, popular band at one point ...over 10 years ago. But realistically, they have three big albums (with one being basically a double album), and have done nothing since. Leaked demos and talk of a new album isn't doing something...

Now? Axl is still popular in a way, but for the most part he's seen as a joke to anyone who isn't a fan. If things continue to go they way they are now, he'll be remembered as the lead singer of a band who eventually self-destructed.

  17. I'm thinking it may be.

This is NOT a band who seems to take their role in todays music seriously. They could push Chinese Democracy back once or twice, but how many times has it been in the last few years? It's become a joke, to the point where even when it's a "sure thing", it's really not. No matter how much you want to believe Axl, or how serious he seems to be this time, he's still full of it, and you can;t belive anything he says.

The tour?? I don't know. Honestly, you have a "Chinese Democracy" tour when Chinese Democracy is available. Right now, it's a tour, possible/probably just to make some money. I don't know if the album is comming out, and at this point, it seems likely it won't anytime soon. If not now, when??? Really Axl supporters, when??? 2007? 2008? 2009? IT's been 13 years of this shit, and why is now any differant than 2000 or 2002???

I don't even think he should call it Chinese Democracy. That title is a joke right now, and always will be.

I'll go see the show next week and probably love it for what it is. It's a "band" playing old songs I used to love. I'll enjoy it, I'll have a good time, but I have no confidance in Axl or GNR becoming anything relivant to 2006 music. Tour, make money, fine, whatever, but if GNR can't deliver an album now, when they seem to be their most active in years, fine, whatever, don't bother.

I'll buy it when it comes out, of course, but I'm tired of waiting for it, tired of supporting a band that's almost non-existant aside from the occasional tour and BS promise about an album. I love GNR, always will, but I see through this band, it's like the guy you know you can't depend on always promising that THIS is the time he'll come through.
