  1. 1. Spain are by far the best team in the world at the moment, although Germany are close. Guess we will see at the World Cup in Brazil next year.

    2. America are okay, not amazing and not terrible. Will probably get through to the quarter finals at the World Cup.

    3. The CONCACAF Gold Cup (Spanish: Copa de Oro de la CONCACAF) is the main association football competition of the men's national football teams governed by CONCACAF, determining the regional champion of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

    4. A friendly game is one that has no consequence, unlike tournaments or qualifying games for those tournaments. Kind of like pre-season games so the international sides can warm up before some competitive games.

    5. When a team gets a corner, the team defending the goal were the last to touch the ball before it goes out of play behind the goal so they get a chance to attack with a corner, if the attacking side touch the ball last before it goes out of play behind the goal then play is restarted with a goalkick.

    6. Jurgen is okay, he did okay as German national coach but was nothing spectacular.

    7. Getting "booked" is like a slang term for being yellow carded.

    Thank you.

With 3, I meant the World Cup, not Gold Cup, I apologize.

Can you ever foresee a time when America might be like, one of the opponents in the final World Cup match?

  2. This is why miser is banned from making threads.

So why is he making threads.

    Mods?

I was banned from making threads for making like 8-12 a day and cluttering whole sections with them.

I've kept myself to a 2-3 a day limit (not imposed by anyone except myself) since returning. If my threads tend to repeat themselves, I apologize, but I do tend to have a narrow and consistent band of interests. But I also don't remember if I made a thread already specifically about a topic a year ago...So yeah. It's not purposeful, it's not meant to "spam" or anything like that. It's simply a lapse in memory if I repeat a thread. But usually when i repeat a thread, there ARE variations from the former thread. For example, the oldPulp Fiction thread is simply about glorifying the film and discussing why it's so great. This one is more asking people, what do you like about it? Who are your favorite characters, what's your favorite scene and favorite storyline? It's a bit different.

  3. because there's a lot of metalheads who are very much into the image aspect of heavy metal, and one of the pioneering bands had cut off their locks...and also, this coincided with a poorly-received album. it was a one-two combo and people were just like, who are these guys pretending to be metallica?

    Which leads me into:

Do you (and others here) feel the reception to Load was justified?

If we view it as say just an album, not specifically a Metallica album, how would you guys say it ranks?

  4. Right, I'm new to Soccer. I took Tott's suggestion and have decided to ask you guys some questions. Thank you in advance:

    1) Which teams/countries are considered to be among the best in the world at Soccer?

    2) How good is America overall, how do we rank in Soccer? The only games I've watched were the recent Gold Cup games--US vs. Costa Rica, US vs. Belize, US vs. Panama, and a recent friendly game, US. vs. Bosnia.

    3) How exactly is the Gold Cup determined? I mean, how is it exactly decided who plays there, and how is it decided where each Gold Cup is hosted? Do any of you think America will ever make it very far into or win the Gold Cup?

    3) What exactly is a "friendly game" per se, and does it have any real importance to the game/team playing whether they win or lose?

    4) What exactly does it mean when a team 'gets a corner'?

    5) How good of a coach is the US Coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, when compared to other, international coaches?

    6) What does it mean if a player's name is taken down in the book, and what actions can lead to that happening? Is it like a black mark on their record? How much more severe is it than getting a yellow or red card?

Is there anything else you guys feel I should know?

  5. Was Vincent's death the most ground breaking part of the movie because you couldn't see his Mullet anymore?

No, because you still saw his mullet in the second half of the movie which takes place earlier.

Also, his hairstyle wasn't a mullet. More like a cross between slicked back hair and long hair. If it was a mullet, it wouldn't be long in the front:

  6. Yes, this is a thread distinct from "Rank the Tarantino Films" Thread. This is a thread about a film that happened to have been directed and written by Tarantino which was a smash hit upon it's release in 1994 and continues to be popular today, and a film I personally consider among the best of the last 20 years. It's got an awesome cast, awesome music, a great story, compelling characters, and plenty of surprises.

    Who was your favorite character?

    Which storyline was your favorite?

    Favorite scene?

    Your reaction to

    Vincent's death
    ?

How would you say it's held up over time?

  7. I've read how when Metallica all cut their hair in 1996, a few months before Load came out, it was a pretty big deal, both among Metallica fans and rock/metal music fans in general. That it was a sign of them selling out--even before Load came out. Can someone explain to me why it was such a big deal in 1996 that they cut their hair? It's not like it was the 60s or 70s where having long hair put you as being against The Establishment......

  8. It would be interesting if the real GNR got together and combined their best individual material from the past twenty years together into a brand newish album.

When are you going to stop imitating BBA? If you had any understanding of the phrase real GNR you would be able to grasp that it refers to the current line-up.

No, the real GNR refers to the BAND that was active between 1985 and 1993. Axl's solo group also named Guns N' Roses is not real GN'R.

  9. I am of the opinion that some of the songs on CD had a lot of potential to be awesome songs, but that something was lost in translation from concept to recording to the finished product.

The question is, what killed CD? Or what kills it for you?

Does anyone here feel that the songs on CD, in theory, are great songs but the production/overproduction/mix ruins them?

I just think like, songs like Better, TWAT, and Catcher could've been classics if done differently.

  10. Yeah and Pretty Woman wouldn't count would it? Unless the movie was actually filmed when Disney owned the studio you can't call it a Disney movie.

Disney created Touchstone Pictures in the 80s. They never bought it. it didn't exist until they made it; It was their own internal creation, of a subsidiary label under which they could release mature films. So yes, Pretty Woman counts.

  11. What are your favorite movies (both live action and animated) by the Walt Disney Company? This includes not movies only by Disney itself, but also Disney's subsidiaries like Pixar, Marvel, LucasFilm, Touchstone Pictures etc.

Like for example, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pretty Woman, and The Avengers count as Disney movies, because Disney owns the companies that made them, as well as all of Pixar's films since Disney owns Pixar.

So, what are your favorite and least favorite films by Disney?

  12. I personally think this film is totally underrated and opinions of it are tainted by rose colored nostalgia for the original films by the 30+ audience members. It stands up with the other films. For every stupid or unbelievable moment in the Crystal Skull, there's something just as stupid or unbelievable in each of the original films. Even an average Indiana Jones film is still better than any Mummy, National Treasure or Lara Croft film.

  13. I just don't understand Axl. He made life hard on his old bandmates and drove them away for... for creating the kind of music we're hearing now? Going Down is not even on par with the worst songs on UYI so what the hell? But I think Axl doesn't even know to this day what kind of music he wants to make. According to different sources Axl wanted to grow and evolve after the UYI albums yet he told in 99 that he wanted to make another AFD but wasn't allowed to do it because of Slash (wtf?).

When did Axl say he wanted to make another AFD because of Slash? Would like to read that interview.

"I originally wanted to make a traditional record or try to get back to an "Appetite [For Destruction]" thing or something, because that would have been a lot easier for me to do. I was involved in a lot of lawsuits for Guns N' Roses and in my own personal life, so I didn't have a lot of time to try and develop a new style or re-invent myself, so I was hoping to write a traditional thing, but I was not really allowed to do that." (Axl, MTV interview, 11/08/99)
"So, I opted for what I thought would or should've made the band and especially Slash very happy. Basically I was interested in making a Slash record with some contributions from everybody else." (Axl, press release, 08/14/02)
  14. IMO, the Lord of the Rings trilogy by Peter Jackson is the best film trilogy ever done (I don't consider the Godfather films a trilogy because I disregard Godfather 3). It's equal in quality to the original Star Wars films. I also believe the first Hobbit film was excellent. These films are based on what are pretty much the best books of all time.....

What do you feel about Peter Jackson's "Rings" series, including The Hobbit?

  15. Important or not, that's not how writing credits work.

    Thanks for explaining. Oh wait...

Axl just needed to write words on a song to have writing credits, I was wordering why would Slash not have writing credits for composing such a guitar work for that particular song.

Lyrics get credit, always. Guitar riffs/solos don't. That's how it works, fair or not.

    Pretty much this.

From a moral standpoint, he should've received credit. But that's not how it works. See all of Mick Taylor's contributions to the Stones. On some songs Keith Richards doesn't even play at all and was probably nodded off somewhere when the song was composed and recorded, but the credit is still "Jagger/Richards".
